1970 TOYOTA FJ 40 LAND CRUISER Toyota Land Cruiser prices have been appreciating quickly over the last few years. So much so that full restoration examples are bringing $30,000-$40,000. Don't think this FJ isn't worth the investment because it is and is probably one of the more solid examples available for sale. Just add a coat of paint and you'd be right in that realm. We were able to procure this example from California and are able to offer it at an extremely reasonable price. This 1970 FJ is extremely solid and honest example of an FJ with a little added horses under the hood. This FJ 40 is a California barn find Hot Rod powered by a Ford FE 390 motor adapted to the FJ original 3 speed manual transmission. It is some what of a sleeper due to its exterior stock appearance. The FJ runs and drives very well and does not over heat even in 100 degree weather or in bumper to bumper traffic. It is completely roadworthy as she sits right now down to the brand new BFG's on her. We have had her out all around town and not only is she a head turner she is a blast to drive. She is ready to conquer any terrain and has plenty of torque to master any trail or hill in her way. This would make a great trail or huning vehicle just the way it sits. I can not stress enough how reliable and drivable this FJ 40 is. Although not a freshly restored FJ, she does have quite a few fresher items and what really makes her stand out from the crowd are her nice body panels. This FJ 40 has a straight body and very nice hard top, rust free doors, and solid floors. I am impressed with the overall condition of this FJ and how well the doors and rear barn doors operate and fit. You will notice on the passenger door where the paint chipped off it looks like rust but its only surface and the door is solid just like the driver's side. The padded dash does have some cracks in it but overall the interior is really a gem. Take a look at the photographs and let us know if you have any questions. The front drive works as does the transfer case which make it idea for off-road use with the added torque of the 390 motor. Also the heater works really job! Only 53,000 miles from new and optioned with factory A/C, power steering and power disk (front) brakes. The 2F engine is mated to a four-speed manual transmission and retains all of its factory smog equipment. Paint and body are excellent with no rust repair or accident damage ever; all of the factory spot welds remain visible in the tub and a high quality repaint in the correct color was completed about five years ago. Interior is largely original and likewise in excellent condition; we are particularly impressed with the condition of the dash, switchgear and gauges. All rubbers and seals have been renewed. This beautiful 1976 FJ40 Land Cruiser has been extensively renovated and needs nothing more than a little mud to start having fun. The bodywork is in outstanding condition, with sharply folded front fenders and correct rear quarters and very good paint. The workmanship is far superior to the factory standards in 1976, even considering Toyota's reputation for quality. Rear fender flares have been added to cover the slightly oversized off-road tires, and the front bumper has been jettisoned in favor of a heavy-duty bumper and winch setup that looks like it could pull the FJ up the side of a building. The 4.2 liter inline-six is believed to be the original powerplant, and offers a heavy-duty air intake system and fuel injection for reliability in the rough.
