I am listing my 1989 20th anniversary Trans am #823 of 1555 built all of these Trans am's were white exterior with tan interior and this one is equipped with leather, Its a 3 owner clear Ohio title car with all documation, which includes the original window sticker, temp tag, sales paper work, all service work completed receipts since new for mileage documation, complete PHS packet, factory build sheet, the collector portfolio box which includes the (official pace car decals which were never installed which is one thing that makes this one unique some people like that look and some don't so you have that option to do it how you'd like, I've also got all 1989/1990 road test magazines for this car and the official press release packet, this Trans am is as documented as they come its missing nothing. Also comes with two sets of floor mats(including the upgraded ones that say Turbo Trans am which are in the pic's), 3 sets of keys, the factory front licence plate bracket never open still in the factory package, the t-top shade covers and a high quality car cover all come with the sale. This trans am also wears the factory good year gatorback tires with no signs of dry rot, factory spark plug wires which read 20th Trans am and all other parts are as factory installed even the air filter, This Trans am was put on a lift and fully detailed top to bottom even removing and cleaning the wheels, brakes, drivetrain and floor boards were waxed never undercoated and always stored in a climate controlled garage for the highest quality preservation where all window seals are crisp and not dry rotted as well the leather is soft and smooth with no oils ever applied to them. The inside is as new condition with no stains or cracks or fading any where all the gauges work and options including the A/C and power antenna , Comes with the factory cassette as well. The out side has been clay barred and it's as smooth as can be, the paint shows no signs of damage or cracking(the spoiler is crack free which is uncommon on these cars) car has never had any paint work done, the emblems are like new with no fading or discoloring seen. Up for auction is my 1989 Pontiac GTA convertible. Car runs and drives great. Everything works as it should, no funny noises or smoke. No check engine light or any light on the dash. Car has 114k actual miles with a clean Arizona title. This particular GTA convertible comes with an original factory 350 CI engine. The engine size is confirmed by the eighth digit of the VIN. In this cars case the “8” represents the 350 CI engine. This car, being equipped with a factory 350 CI engine, makes it a 1 of 50 produced according to several Trans Am web forums. Below is a section from the GTASOURCEPAGE.COM web forum about production stats: Yet another interesting side note in the GTA's history was the production of a small number of GTA convertibles for 1989 by ASC, an aftermarket conversion company, in cooperation with Pontiac. 1989 PMD/ASC Trans Am GTA Convertible The exact number of GTAs built remains a mystery, but there were only 369 Firebird convertibles built that year and only 50 examples had the 5.7L TPI engine, which was standard in the GTA. No official production data has been verified by ASC but, still, the 1989 GTA convertibles remain some of the rarest examples built during the GTA's five-year run. I had posted this Trans Am for sale last week. I wasn’t real happy with the picture quality in the ad. It looked as though the paint job us just ok or less than ok. I’ve since had it detailed and took new pictures to hopefully give it more accurate representation. This GTA as far as I know and can tell, represents the rust free condition of exactly what Arizona cars are supposed to look like. From the best of my knowledge this GTA appears to have its original paint. This car is far from needing a paint job. Paint is very presentable and looks great up close and far away. From the pictures you can see the trunk lid spoiler is faded and a bit on the hood vents. The hood has some rock chips that were touched up with touch up paint. I left them faded as to not give the impression of trying to hide something with a repaint or repainted section. Front seats were redone by the previous owner in a later model year shape seat. They were recovered in a black and gray leather that was done very tastefully. Obviously the original front seats would be nice. Rear seat is the original gray leather seat, it too is in perfect shape. Power antenna mast is broken but other than that the car needs nothing. Previous owner installed Edelbrock intake/ throttle body, Flowmaster full exhaust and headers which aside from a performance enhancement, really dressed the engine up. Internally I was told there are roller tip rockers a cam shaft and faster prom chip. Engine sounds, looks and runs great. The whether striping inside and out is in great shape. Power headlamps work smoothly, sun visors stay up as they are supposed to. No cracks in the dash pad, dash/trim, moldings, etc. are all I great shape with nothing missing or malfunctioning. Cold a/c. no check engine lights on. Posi traction in the rear along with disc brakes in the rear. Yokohama tires are in new condition. Spare tire and air tube is all there. Convertible top and back window are perfect and function as new The convertible GTA cars are rare in the third generation body style. In my opinion one of the best looking convertibles of all the TA generations. For all of the non-enthusiasts out there that are interested in buying a GTA for fun and or investment. Here is my 2 cents. GTA’s are beautiful cars. I think any car in a convertible will always be more desirable. If you want a GTA, the convertibles are the way to go, with 50 or less produced you’re that much further ahead on a good investment. Pay the few dollars extra and a car like this will appreciate much faster than you can make it depreciate driving it. You will be getting paid to drive down the street and turn heads. Undoubtedly, you will sell this car when you’re done enjoying it at a profit! I have tried to describe this car as accurately and thoroughly as I can. An unexpected, life changing event has caused me to put my baby up on the auction block for sale here. This car shows exceptionally well, but as with any 28 year old car, there are a few minor blemishes and a couple professionally repaired chips in the paint (very hard to find). The bottom front of the nose has some paint cracking due to flexing fiberglass over the decades, and as with all of these cars, the driver seat bolster shows wear but it is NOT split or cracked through. The wheels are good but do show some crackling of the clear coat on the chrome outside rim areas. All mechanical systems are in good working order, all gauges, lights, antenna, radio, rear hatch pull down motor, steering wheel controls all work. The 20th Anniversary ignition wires have been replaced with MSD wires, but have been kept and will come with the car for originality. The car has a custom embroidered hood insulator, a "show & go" hidden front license plate bracket (state law compliance) and comes with the original laminated window sticker, Firebird owners manual, 20th Anniversary supplemental owners manual, 20th Anniversary door handle inserts and the 20th Anniversary key chain from the 20th Anniversary owners kit. It was not well known at the time, but in 1989, Pontiac produced the quickest[9] and fastest[10] American production car. The "Excitement Division" was also asked to provide a car to pace the 73rd running of the Indianapolis 500; sadly, it would be the final time a Pontiac would ever receive that honor. The Trans Am model was now 20 years old, and it was time for another anniversary edition, with this special 20th Anniversary Trans Am to be based on the existing Trans Am GTA. Through a unique partnership between Pontiac and an engineering firm called Prototype Automotive Services (PAS), the Trans Am GTA was equipped with a more powerful version of the turbocharged Buick 3.8L V6, originally developed for the Buick Regal Grand National, and the Turbo Trans Am (TTA) became the vehicle Pontiac supplied to pace the Indianapolis 500. Ultimately, 1,555 TTA replicas, rated at 250 hp, were produced for sale, five of those being test cars. But after Car and Driver magazine tested the car, logging a 0–60 mph run in 4.6 seconds, and a standing quarter-mile in 13.4 seconds at 101 mph, they called the 250 hp rating "exceedingly modest," estimating the actual output to be "closer to 300 hp." They also subsequently reported that it was the "quickest 0–60 sprinter available in any US production-car showroom – at any price."[9] The Car and Driver evaluation produced the best acceleration performance of any main stream publication to test a regular TTA press car from the Pontiac fleet, partly because Car and Driver realized that the turbo boost must be "preloaded" to get maximum performance figures. But short-distance sprinting was not all this car could do well. Early in 1989, Motor Trend ran their top speed test article "Flat-out Fastest American Cars II-the Sequel." During this test, the TTA did 162 mph, and was the fastest production car evaluated in the test. However, Motor Trend declared the winner to be a 1989Corvette ZR-1, which went much faster, but was not a production car (it was a prototype that Chevrolet intended to release for production in 1989, but did not come out until 1990).[11] So by a slight technicality, the TTA could be called the flat-out quickest (0–60 4.6 sec.) and fastest (162 mph) American production car in 1989. It is interesting to note that the only constraint on the top speed of 162 mph was that the TTA was being limited by the engine redline and automatic transmission (with which all TTA's were equipped). When PAS installed a ZF 6-speed manual transmission into one of the cars, they were able to reach 181 mph.[12] Perhaps more importantly than the performance tests provided by the industry magazines was the fact that these cars were capable of much faster acceleration times – with minimal modifications. In fact, with $300 in new parts installed, 12.5-second quarter-mile runs were achievable – without manually shifting gears or the need to trailer the vehicle to the track! Because of this, the TTA has gained a cult following among amateur racing enthusiasts. Pontiac sub-contracted the job of engineering the TTA engine modifications to PAS. The narrow engine bay of the Trans Am required the use of different cylinder heads, which happened to have better flow characteristics than the old Buick heads. Special stainless steel headers were made specifically for the project as well. The heads, headers, along with more refined tuning of the boost and fuel curves, all added up to a more powerful package than the older Buicks. PAS was also in charge of testing and assembling the engines. Most TTA's came with T-tops and leather interior, but there were also hardtops and cloth-interior cars. And every TTA had an automatic transmission – the TH200-4R, equipped with overdrive and a torque converter clutch. The three actual pace cars were randomly selected from the production run, and sent to Indianapolis to pace the race. Thus, the pace car replicas were closer to the actual pace cars than any replica previously offered; the only difference between the replicas and the three actual pace cars was the addition of strobe lights and safety equipment to the latter. In addition, the TTA was relatively economical to drive; it returned 24 mpg on the highway, while the only cars (besides the Lotus Esprit Turbo SE) that could approach its performance at the time (Ferraris, Lamborghinis, etc.) were far more costly, and providing only around 10 to 12 mpg. As has been proven to be the case in subsequent years, relying on a small engine for cruising, and a turbocharger for power, provides an exciting driving experience while returning impressive fuel mileage. The rarest 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Ams are the hardtops and convertibles. Only 40 hardtops were made. Only three convertible TTA's were built by ASC,[13][14] one of which was bought by the president of PAS, with the other two falling into private hands. Only two are generally known to exist, however, as the ASC order log shows records for only two TTA convertibles.[15] The five test TTA's, because they were for pre-production use, were pulled off of the assembly line without regard to color, and therefore were not necessarily white. At least two of these test cars were sold to private individuals, so there are at least two extremely rare, non-white, factory TTA's in existence; in fact, one is known to be red.
