Description  1935 DeSoto Airflow SG Coupe Project - for sale by private party -   The word “rare” is frequently used to describe classic cars.  This car is among those that truly deserve the term.  Airflows, both Chrysler and DeSoto, were produced in very small numbers. Consequently, the limited production cars (and the coupes in particular) are highly sought after today.   This example had already been converted to a street rod when purchased by the current owner.  Because the build quality was lacking, the plan was to do a complete teardown and rebuild.  The car was stripped down and much of the sheet metal repair has been performed by a respected restoration shop.  There is still plenty of work to do.  This project will allow the next builder the opportunity to build a unique street rod without sacrificing an original car in the process.   This project is not for the faint of heart.  It will require resources and dedication to build this into the beautiful car that it deserves to be.  The foundation is there.  All of the significant pieces (bumpers, grill, headlamps, fender skirts, instruments, etc.) are included.   Features:   1935 DeSoto Airflow SG 2 Coupe (418 Airflow SG coupes produced in 1935) New NOS upper grill (never installed) Original gauges/instruments Original bumpers (chromed) Original Fender skirts New door sills Body sandblasted and DP primed Most body dents repaired 1956 Firedome 330 hemi engine (needs to be rebuilt) 700r4 automatic overdrive transmission (needs to be rebuilt) Sits on Chevrolet S10 (disc-brake) frame   The last photo shows the car prior to teardown. I have listed this car for a friend.  I can put you in touch with the owner.  The car is located in Bellevue, WA 98005 (just east of Seattle).  A viewing can be easily arranged.     Sorry, not interested in trades.     Buyer is responsible for shipping from Bellevue, WA 98005.  Vehicle is sold as-is and where-is.  Please have the vehicle inspected prior to making a commitment to purchase.   Vehicle will be held until purchase funds clear.  Payment by cash, certified cashier's check, or electronic funds transfer.     Save time & money with FREE Auctiva Image Hosting.Create listings that get noticed! with Auctiva's 1,800+ Templates. Up for auction is a very rare car; a 1936 Desoto Airflow S2 Sedan that is 95% complete, an excellent restoration project that ha already been started with many restored and some NOS parts included with the sale. If you've been looking for an iconic Airflow you know how rare these are, and they do not come up very often. The Desoto (6 cyl) Airflow cars (1934-1936 only) were truly revolutionary groundbreaking cars. Credited with the introduction of many major technical advancements in automotive design, including; 1) the first car designed in a wind tunnel to improve drag and increase land speed without adding horsepower, 2) the fiorst car that moved the engine forward over the front axle so in turn moving passenger seats forward so riders would ride 'between the wheels' for a smoother ride without the 'buckboard' affect for the rear seat passengers, 3) the first car that incorporated the headlamps into the body of the car (instead of cans attached to the fenders), and perhaps the most significant, 4) this was the world's first 'uni-body' design car, the passengers rode 'inside the frame' which greatly improved survival in case of a crash. All these above features, common to automobiles ever since and all cars made today. were pioneered by the Desoto Airflow in 1934. 1936 was the final year for this amazing car and saw styling improvements including it's beautiful waterfall grill and flying lady mascot, so the 1936 Desoto is widely considered the most beautiful of the Airflow line. This Airflow 1936 S2 Sedan has some minor rust in the usual places; rear truck area, edges of lower fenders, but overall it is a 95% complete and solid car with all of it's original drive train. The original engine and trans are currently out of the car, and this car comes with an extra block as well. Some parts are already restored, such as both the front and rear bumpers and bumper emblem parts which are already rechromed. There is also a brand new clutch, the radiator has been refurbished and all the window and door rubber parts have been purchased and are NOS sealed in their plasic bags...so the restoration is well on it's way. Now it's body, paint and 'some assembly required'! This S2 Sedan also has the rare option of an electric clock built into the right glove box door (the S2 came with TWO glove boxes!), and also has both of it's fender skirt w/ unique emblems (one skirt emblem needs a minor repair, the other is perfect). Most importantly, it has it's original iconic grill and flying lady mascot in tact with just minor pitting and no 'broken bones'....and easy resto so this car can be restored to show quality. The Airflow Club of America is an excellent club for supporting your restoration and has re manufactured many of the rare items needed for restoration. We can arrange free delivery within the SoCal area, or we can help to arrange export transportation for you. Note, we will also be listing a 1935 Desoto SG coupe, in similar very restore-able condition in a separate auction. Please see attached photos for details, and please ask us if you'd like to see more before placing your bid. This car is available for inspection at our Woodland Hills restoration shop during normal business hours, appointments on weekend possible. We can also offer full restoration services for this S2 car in case you do not want to do this yourself. We have recently completed a frame off restoration of another award winning 1936 S2 sedan and can send you pictures in case you'd like to see the quality of our work.

The Desoto Firesweep was produced by the Chrysler Corporation and sold under the Desoto name from 1957 through 1959. Such as their signature tailfins; the front clip was based on the Dodge Coronet and the rest was mostly true to Desoto’s unique design language. The most telling feature is the headlight design, housed under heavily chromed lids typical of Desoto. A Firesweep could seat six passengers and was available as a four-door sedan, five-door station wagon, two-door coupé, and two-door convertible; with two-door models being the rarest. Power was provided by Chrysler’s 361 V8 producing 295 hp. Unfortunately after declining sales numbers 1959 was the last year of production for Firesweep. Dripping in newly finished classic white body paint and red hardtop, this Firesweep is beautiful! The paint is in fantastic overall condition showing minor signs of age; the car shows extremely well. All of the body panels are in very good condition, straight from the front end to the signature tail fins. Both chrome bumpers are in very good condition showing only very minor signs of age, but still very presentable. Optional dual rear antennae’s are still in great condition, along with the other chrome trim pieces that accent the car’s lines. Inside, you’ll find that the largely original interior is two-tone red vinyl with period correct patterned cloth inserts, which are in great condition. The headliner is a perforated vinyl material that is in good condition with only minor imperfections due to age. Still retaining the original dashboard and gauges the mostly original interior is in fantastic condition. The push-button automatic transmission selector not only adds an air of uniqueness to this classic but also functions as it should. An optional AM radio with Desoto’s signature clock is still in place too. Black carpeting appears to have been replaced and is very good condition with very minor wear. Finally the original owners choose the deluxe light package to show off the spacious interior for the six possible passengers. Under the hood, you’ll find a very clean and original 361 cid Chrysler big block V-8 engine, paired with a smooth and durable Torqueflite automatic three speed transmission. Equipped from the factory with power steering, this classic is a joy to cruise in. White wall tires compliment the car very well, which are in good condition and appear to be newer. All four original Desoto hub caps are still in place and shine very well. What are you waiting for? Desoto’s are among the most unique classic American cars and never fail to impress wherever they travels. Pile in your six friends and cruise your way into a past memory. GET OUT AND DRIVE! Odometer currently reads 48,251 miles which is believed to be actual as stated by previous owner. However do to age of vehicle it is sold as is and mileage exempt. WE BUY CARS! You will need to check with your local government for any special rules regarding these older vehicles passing any inspections. We will not be held liable for any vehicle not passing inspection. The vehicle is offered with a right to a personal inspection by any bidder or agent. If you or an agent upon completion of a scheduled inspection at our St. Louis location finds the car not to your liking, we will refund your deposit with no questions asked. Feedback MUST be left before the vehicle is released to the buyer/agent/shipper. If you are the high bidder and unable to inspect said vehicle before auction close, you or an agent will have seven (7) days to inspect said vehicle after the close of auction. I encourage a physical inspection strongly to avoid any misunderstandings or representations. All disputes arising out of or resulting from this sale shall be finally determined by binding arbitration in St. Louis, Missouri in accordance with the commercial rules of arbitration of the American Arbitration Association. The arbitration shall be carried out by one or more arbitrators in accordance with said rules. Any award shall be enforceable in any court of competent jurisdiction in the same manner as judgments. This agreement to arbitrate shall survive the sale of the automobile described herein. Buyer and Seller hereby agree that Missouri law shall control for all purposes under this Bill of Sale. Buyer and Seller hereby consent to the personal jurisdiction of the state and federal courts of Missouri to specifically enforce the agreement to arbitrate and to enter judgment of and enforce the award of the arbitrator. All above terms and conditions are applied to vehicle sales, whether through EBay or otherwise. Payment Terms Payment must be made by Cashiers Check, Money Orders or Wire Transfers payable in US Dollars. A Refundable deposit in the amount of $500.00 must be received within Twenty-Four (24) hours of the auctions close either by Master Card, Visa, Discover or PayPal (Credit Cards or PayPal for deposit only NOT for full payment). Purchaser cannot make any claims of ownership to said vehicle without payment in full. The buyer has seven (7) days from close of auction to inspect the vehicle. If an inspection or decision takes longer than seven days and you find the vehicle not to your liking, your deposit will be forfeited and the car will be relisted. Final payment must be received within ten (10) days of the auction close. The refundable deposit only applies if you or an agent inspect said vehicle in St. Louis and find it not to your liking. Documentation Fee: There will be a $195.00 fee added to each car sold. This includes title transfer, inventory tax, holding costs, vehicle preparation, storage and priority documentation delivery. We will not be responsible for buyer’s remorse or problems found to said vehicle once they have left our property. We are just being realistic; most of the cars we deal in are vintage and by their very nature will need TLC and some degree of attention sooner or later. These are not new cars and your expectation should not be of a perfect, new car. Once full payment has been received, Seller will email or fax a copy of clear title, Bill of Sale, Buyers Guide and additional DMV forms to the Buyer to sign and return via email or fax. The fully-executed forms must be returned to the Seller prior to the shipment of said vehicle. Original paperwork will be sent to Buyer via USPS Priority Mail within ten (10) days from date of final payment. Transportation For a quote on shipping anywhere in the world, please feel free to email us at [email protected] or call 636-600-4600. We will give you an estimated cost for open and enclosed transport or overseas. We are happy to accommodate our international buyers! Over the last several decades we have exported thousands of cars to Norway, Germany, Estonia, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Alaska, Costa Rica, Brazil, British Columbia, Canada and many other locations around the world. Overseas shipments will be placed into a steel container for safe sea passage or optional roll-on/roll-off (RoRo). We take care of all the details and paperwork. All you have to do is collect the car at your nearest port and enjoy! Please note that we are not a transport company and only offer this service as a convenience to our customers. You are more than welcome to arrange your own shipping. Transportation will commence only after final payment and signed documentation are received. Financing We offer financing through many of the best lenders in the industry. They are currently offering very attractive rates for all collector and special interest automobiles. With loan amounts from $10,000 to $500,000, and flexible terms of up to 12 years, you can finance the car of your dreams. Call us at 636-600-4600 for additional details. Warranty ALL SALES ARE FINAL WITH CAR BEING SOLD WHERE IS, AS IS! The vehicle is offered with a right to a personal inspection by any bidder or agent of any bidder. The vehicle is available for inspection prior to bidding. If you are the high bidder and unable to inspect said vehicle before auction close, you or an agent will have (7) days to inspect said vehicle after the close of auction. I encourage a physical inspection strongly to avoid any misunderstandings or representations. All used vehicles should be assumed to have some degree of wear. No vehicle is perfect to everyone. Each vehicle has its strengths, styles, tendencies and shortcomings. Therefore, despite our best efforts to verify a vehicle’s mechanical condition, we are not able to warranty a manufacturer’s workmanship or previous owner’s diligence in care. It is for this reason that all vehicles are sold ”WHERE/IS, AS/IS”. We have described the above mentioned vehicle to the best of our ability. However, with all classic and exotic vehicles, the condition is subjective. Please be advised that no oral or written statements concerning any vehicle constitutes a representation or warranty of the condition of the said vehicle. INDUSTRY UNIQUE RETURN POLICY: If for any reason you receive your vehicle and have buyer’s remorse, are not happy with the vehicle or just don’t want it for any reason we will purchase the car back from you. We must be notified in writing of your decision to return the vehicle within seven (7) days of your receipt of said vehicle. The vehicle may not have more than 75 additional miles on the odometer from the time it left our possession and be returned in the same condition that it left. You WILL be responsible for a restocking fee that will equal 20% of the purchase price of the vehicle, no exceptions. You will also be responsible for shipping the vehicle back to our shop at your expense. Copyright © 1999-2015 MotoeXotica. All Rights Reserved. And while the brand was originally envisioned as a stepping stone to the corporation's namesake luxury marque, it also spawned performance and economy models to fend off internal competition from Dodge and Plymouth. That means the '50s power monsters MoPar enthusiasts know and love often have more exclusive counterparts like this stylish Fireflite Sportsman. Wrapping a hot 341 cubic inch Hemi V8 and stalwart pushbutton Torqueflite in a tailored interior and sweeping sheetmetal, this all-American cruiser HAS to be some of the coolest metal on the planet! And with only 7,216 companion cars, it's some of the rarest Detroit iron ever produced. For fans of unique cars, it doesn't get much better than an Exner era Chrysler. And if you're a discerning collector who's itching for a classic, big-fin MoPar that'll be the star of every cruise night in town, this '57 DeSoto is your ticket! BODYWORK/TRIM Based on legendary designer Virgil Exner's 'Forward Look' body, DeSoto's well-known Fireflite series is some of the finest metal to ever leave an American design studio. The spectacular Fiesta Red and Frost White example you see here was assembled at Chrysler's Detroit, Michigan manufacturing facility and exceptionally maintained by one fastidious owner for close to 57 years. Its mostly original sheetmetal reflects a smooth, 2-stage finish that was applied in the summer of 2014. Yards of original brightwork and stainless feature no modern supplements, with the exception of fresh chrome on the car's taillight housings and rear bumper. And, as far as we can tell, this coupe has never been fully disassembled, with the aforementioned owner instead opting to address issues of aging as they arose. ENGINE All that classy metal moves thanks to a Hemispherical Fire Dome V8, which is branded with a correct S26-27094 assembly stamp. Clocking in at 341 cubic inches, the square-bore mill turns hearty 9.25 to 1 compression into 295 horsepower and 390 lb./ft. of stout torque. And naturally, given the car's ownership history, the engine appears to wear a roster of correct and original pieces, from its glossy air cleaner and rebuilt Carter carburetor all the way to its beefy radiator and tagged red cap battery. Fire is provided by a traditional points distributor, which sequences sparks between an old school generator and 7mm Copper Conductor Cables. Combustion comes courtesy of a correct camshaft, which breathes through a correct intake and original exhaust manifolds. Aesthetically, the engine's clean Aluminum paint contrasts well against a fresh Fiesta firewall and glossy black fenders. And little details like gold valve covers, vivid "DESOTO FIREFLITE EIGHT" call-outs, stainless fluid lines and a Sparton horn round out this coupe's natural eyeball appeal. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION The 1957 DeSoto was "the car that makes yesterday seem years ago". Accordingly, the division's marketing gurus drowned the print world in ads touting the brand's new Torsion-Aire Suspension. And surprisingly, that statement still holds true today, as this big boulevard king sits on a freshly detailed chassis that veils pothole-shattering solidity in a silky smooth ride. Behind the Fire Dome V8, an original A488 Torqueflite 3-speed sends power to a correct rear end. That tough driveline spins in a factory-spec undercarriage that's complete with Chrysler's robust torsion bars and stiff outrider springs. At the corners of that chassis, heavy duty drum brakes ensure solid, fade-free stops. At the center of the car's rust-free floors, a traditional true-dual exhaust system employs deep, glasspack-style mufflers. And all this road-worthy hardware rides on painted and capped wheels, which spin pliable 8.50-14 BF Goodrich Silvertown whitewalls. INTERIOR Take a look inside this coupe and you'll find a mostly-original Gray and White interior that sports enough room to haul the whole family in comfort! Wide bench seats prop piped and stitched vinyl under fresh centerpieces. In front of those seats, a Frost White dash hangs a crack-free pad over a correct AM radio and stylish, pushbutton transmission controls. That dash and seat combo is framed by rich carpet, textured door panels, chrome pillar covers and a white headliner that's stretched across polished roof bows. In front of the driver, a 2-tone steering wheel spins a chrome horn ring around an intricate DeSoto logo. And behind the passengers, a large trunk props an original jack and spare tire on an original mat. OUR SALE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATIONA variety of original marketing materials. An original Owner's ManualAn original Service CertificateTwo original key tagsA March, 2014 photo of the car with its only owner This classy DeSoto is a super cool cruiser that's easy to imagine as the focal point of a cross-country road trip. Well, yes, it does. The Hemi came to the Desoto in 1952, and cars like this cool 1952 Desoto Firedome coupe can rightly be called the ancestors of the modern muscle car. Lightly customized, this cool Mopar neatly straddles the line between restored and modified in a way that should make everyone happy. OK, so the bright copper paint probably isn't what it wore in 1952, but it's hard to argue that it doesn't look awesome. The Firedome offers a trim coupe profile with a long hood/short deck configuration and a forward-canted greenhouse to give it the illusion of great speed. During the build, the door handles were shaved, but most of the trim remains and was installed on top of some very straight sheetmetal. The doors fit neatly, the hood closes easily, and the rounded trunk has an aggressive curve that looks cool all by itself. At first glance, you might think the bumpers are weathered, but look closely-they have been intentionally painted, along with the taillight bezels and the outer teeth of the grille, the remainder of which have been brilliantly chromed. The effect is pretty cool, and you'll never get tired of watching people do a double-take when they see it. The interior keeps to the stock recipe as well. The upholstery isn't totally original, but it looks convincing wrapped around the original bench seats and door panels, and offers a subtle contrast to the tan paint on the dash. The original instrument panel has been painted to match the body and the factory gauges were rebuilt, not replaced with some aftermarket pieces. After all, what could be cooler than those vintage pointers and chrome numbers? It also retains the original steering wheel (color-matched, of course), column-mounted 3-speed shifter and horn ring, which give it a light custom look. The original AM radio even remains in the dash! There's also a spacious trunk out back that is upholstered in the usual gray fabric for durability, and it includes a full-sized spare tire and hubcap. The Hemi was new to the Desoto lineup in 1952. Displacing 276 cubic inches and making 160 horsepower, it was a potent performer that easily lent itself to ever greater amounts of horsepower. While the rest of this car has some tasteful modifications, the engine bay is completely stock and beautifully restored, right down to the bright red valve covers. There's still a 2-barrel carburetor and oil bath air cleaner up top, a generator still makes the electricity, and the heater is still mounted on the firewall. Underneath, it still offers a single exhaust system with a modest muffler that gives a hushed V8 soundtrack, and the chassis is fully restored. Have a look at the spotless floors, rebuilt suspension, and new gas tank and you'll know someone cared about making this one right. The American Racing aluminum wheels give it a modern look and wear 215/70/15 BFGoodrich radials to great effect. A neat car with a legendary performance image behind it. The custom tricks will get people to look, but it's the detailing that will truly win them over. From 1945 to 2011, it was the Mercury half of the Lincoln - Mercury division of Ford. Using badge engineering, the majority of Mercury models were based on Ford platforms.   The first postwar Mercury was introduced in the 1949 model year. Sales figures for both Ford and Mercury broke records in 1949. Within its era and beyond, the Mercury Eight was popular with customizers. In 1949, Sam Barris built the first lead sled from a 1949 Mercury Eight; the Eight became the definitive lead sled, much as the Ford V-8 was becoming the definitive hot rod.     VIN 0372H497508     Mechanics   255ci Flathead V8 Engine   Ford C4 Automatic Transmission   Offenhauser Intake   Offenhauser Aluminum Heads   Holley Carb   Chrome Alternator   Chrome Air Cleaner   Mallory Ignition   Dual Exhaust   Exhaust System is in Good Shape   Monoleaf Spring   Heavy Duty U Bolts   Period Correct Rear End   Cherry Bomb Mufflers   Custom Cross Member for Transmission   Steering Gear is in Good Shape   New Bolts   Lower Control Arms Look Great   New King Pins   New Brake Lines   Trans Cooler     Body   Beautiful Yellow Paint Job   Desoto Grille   Lake Pipes   Shaved Door Handles and Emblems   Frenched Headlights and Tail Lights   Dual Spot Lights   Chrome Hinges on Hood   Doors Fit and Operate Great   Door Lips and Jambs are Clean and Solid   Beautiful Chrome   Very Nice Trim Around Windows   Popper for Trunk is in Gas Door   Solid Trunk with Nice Mat and Spare Tire   Fender Skirts   Wide White Wall Radial Tires   Full Hubcaps   Very Solid Frame   Floorboards are Original and Beautiful   Nicely Painted Underneath   Rockers are Solid   Body Mounts Look Great   Solid Heavy Duty X Frame     Interior   Brand New White Vinyl Interior   Alpine AM/FM/CD Stereo   Very Sharp Looking Two Tone Dash   Nicely Painted Steering Wheel   Bench Seat   Lokar Shifter   Seatbelts Front and Back   Nice Headliner   New Dolphin Gauges   Starter Button   Wipers Work     Don’t Miss Out!
