Up for sale in our Houston showroom is a 1963 Mercury Comet. This beauty has 41,040 original miles on it, and has only had two prior owners. In 2010 this vehicle had the shocks, heater core, A/C compressor, battery, ball joints, all seals, brakes, tie rods, and idler arm were all replaced. Also in 2010 the carburetor and the set point were rebuilt. In 2011 the entire radiator was rebuilt. In 2012 this car had a brand new paint job done, this vehicle is Soultana white. In the same year this vehicle was wet sanded and buff for the perfect touch. In 2014 the vinyl seats were done with the original ribs for this era car, which was done by Sue (the Dragon Lady) from Gas Monkey Garage. For sale in our St. Louis showroom is a striking 1965 Mercury Comet Caliente. Caliente which translates to \"Red Hot\" in spanish, and just so happens to be perfect for this 65\' Comet. Powered by a Roush built 289 CID V8 that produces 305 horsepower and 317 ft-lb of torque. Options for this 1965 Ford Comet Caliente include: AM Radio, Power Steering, Tilt Wheel, Seat Belts, Vinyl Interior, Radial Tires, and Magnum 500 Aluminum/Alloy Wheels. Only 50 miles has been put on this 65\' Comet since the completion of this beautiful restoration. A Holley 600 CFM carburetor sits atop the Roush built 289 CID V8 which also features an Edelbrock billet fuel filter and braided line, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor, an ARP head and main bolts, and of course the Roush signature valve covers and air filter. The block was bored and honed .030 over, the reconditioned heads underwent a 3 angle valve job, and were reassembled with new stainless steel valves and premium hardware including hydraulic roller springs. The crankshaft was also reconditioned to a grind variance of .010\"/.010\" and balance rotating assembly. The final assembly of the engine was complete with Comp Cams small base circle hydraulic roller cam and tie bar lifters, Ford Motorsport timing set, Scorpion roller rocker arms, Wiseco forged pistons, Eagle 4340 H-beam rods, Melling high volume oil pump, Canton Racing Products 8 qt. road race oil pan and pickup tube, and an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold. The custom ceramic coated headers look amazing and run to the full 2 1/2 inch stainless steel exhaust for an awesome sound. A 4 speed Top Loader transmission with a Hurst shifter featuring a hydraulic clutch has been employed to transfer the power to the new 9\" Curric limited Posi-Trac rear end assembly which features the Performance Axle Package and a 3.50 gear ratio. Wilwood 4 wheel disc brakes not only look amazing but they do an excellent job of stopping this resto-mod when needed. The front suspension features powder coated tubular A-arm and coil overs, with coil overs in the rear suspension as well this Caliente Comet handles like a dream. The re-chromed front and rear bumpers with the all new chrome and stainless trim looks phenomenal against the masterful black paint. The trim and grille and bumpers on this car are original and they are in very good condition. The mileage is correct, It had 54,000 miles on it when I bought it. Car has new paint and detailed inside of trunk area and under hood area, all trim was removed before paint. This is a very rust free car. I have picks of it before paint work was done. It has new carpet, new headliner, new recovered seats, door panels are original and the dash pad needs restored or replaced. It was originally a 200 6 cylinder with 3 speed trans, shifter on column. Steering column and shifter has been rebuilt. I originally bought this car in 1999, drove it for 4 years and sold it. Bought it back and started a big block project with it. The car currently has no engine or trans installed in it. What I have included are as follows, a matching set of 390 GT heads(fresh from machine shop/rebuilt), also a set of restored Mercury Lightning bolt valve covers, Big block engine frame mounts, big block z bar (fresh powder coated), a new 9" Ford 3:71 Ratio Posi-rearend ($1100)with a fresh powder coated housing (third member and housing not assembled yet., also a fresh powder coated trans tunnel shifter plate for the four speed, two front big block coil springs. The windows tracks have been redone, all the door glass is solid and not loose in the tracks, new weather strips in the doors and trunk, new rear glass rubber seal installed when headliner was replaced. I am sure there is some stuff I am forgetting to mention as far as parts included (other small items). It has a set of vintage American Torque Thrust Wheels 14x7.5 that are in real nice condition. tires are old and should be replaced. With a timeless triple black color combination, an appealing upscale interior, and a thrifty drivetrain, it's a hobby car you can enjoy without guilt. The idea of the small car isn't a new one, and even upscale Mercury was getting in on the act with the Comet. It offers styling cues taken from the full-sized machines sitting next to it in the showroom, but thanks to compact proportions, it was easy to drive and remarkably quick, even when equipped with a six-cylinder engine. This one shows good straight bodywork thanks to a lifetime in the south, and dressing it up in black makes it look bigger and more upscale than you'd expect. Dramatically carved sheetmetal was all-new in 1965, making it look more like its big brothers and less like an economy car, and most folks won't recognize it when they first see it. Chrome and trim are quite good, and even on the budget-oriented Comet, there's quite a bit of it, including the big bumpers and ornate grille up front. The stainless trim on the front fenders and ornate fluted taillight lenses give the Comet a lot of visual pizzazz that make it look more expensive than it is. The attractive black interior is another way in which the Comet looks like it should cost way more than it does. One look at the tasteful black vinyl and cloth upholstery with its square stitching instantly reminds you of the other more expensive cars in the Mercury lineup, and that's completely on purpose. The cloth inserts make the interior comfortable even on warm days with the top down, and while it's not totally correct, it certainly looks right. Matching door panels are stylish for a basic car, and we're guessing they were restored when the seats were upgraded. The instrument panel is a handsome and functional design that includes wood appliques for warmth a full set of gauges that are remarkably complete for such an affordable machine. The original AM radio is in the center of the dash, although it's probably due for an upgrade, and the trunk comes complete with a full-sized spare and jack assembly. A luxurious black canvas convertible top was recently installed, and includes a crystal clear rear window and matching black boot. Ford's trusty 200 cubic inch inline fits neatly with the Comet's economy-based mission. It appears to be the original engine, but in 1965, Ford Motor Company wasn't stamping numbers on blocks, so it's impossible to say. It delivers bright performance in the lightweight Mercury and you'll recall that the 1965 Mustang was based on this same platform. Bright red paint on the valve cover and air cleaner makes the machinery stand out against the satin black engine bay, and while it's not detailed for show, it does have a factory look that helps give it camouflage. It starts easily and has a bit of a gruff voice thanks to a single exhaust system. With highway-friendly 3.20 gears out back, the smooth six pulls the car around with confidence and the Dual Range 3-speed automatic transmission is a nice travel partner. Brightly polished Weld wheels carry staggered 225/60/15 front and 235/60/15 rear radials that give it an aggressive stance. Unusual yet eminently practical for today's times, this Comet is a great entry-level hobby car that won't cost you much now or down the road. With a subtle color combination, a remarkably handsome interior, and a thrifty drivetrain, it's a hobby car you can enjoy without guilt. The idea of the economy car isn't a new one, and even upscale Mercury was getting in on the act with the Comet. It offers styling cues taken from the full-sized machines sitting next to it in the showroom, but thanks to compact proportions, it was easy to drive and reasonably peppy even with its gas-sipping inline-six engine. This one shows straight sheetmetal thanks to a lifetime in the south, and while the code M Sultana White paint job is subtle, this one gets all its attention simply by being unusual. Dramatically carved sheetmetal topped by tiny fins that were the '50s last gasp give it a lot of visual interest and are actually helped by the low-key paint. Chrome and trim are quite good, and even on the budget-oriented Comet, there's quite a bit of it, including some rather massive-looking bumpers, a simple grille that should look familiar to Ford fans, and that stainless strip that outlines the car's profile and accentuates the kick-up behind the doors. This is a small car that looks big, which was entirely the point. The jewel in this Comet's crown has to be the beautifully reupholstered interior. For an affordable car at this price, you wouldn't expect it to be this nice, but they spent good money re-creating a period look with comfortable black cloth and white vinyl. Two-tone door panels are remarkably stylish for a basic car, with only the armrest showing its age after nearly 50 years of elbows resting on it. The instrument panel is a piece of '60s sculpture in bright metal and clear plastic, and offers both a temperature and a fuel level gauge in addition to the speedometer, all of which are in original condition and showing their age. There's a 3-speed manual transmission with column shift, but there are no options on this basic Merc: no radio, no power assists, no extras. However, you do get clean carpets, a taut headliner, and excellent use of colors give it a bright, airy feel inside, so it certainly doesn't feel like Mercury's lowest-priced car that year. Even the trunk is nicely finished and comes complete with a correct mat and a full-sized spare with matching cover. Code S means this car carries Ford's trusty 144 cubic inch inline-six fits neatly with the Comet's economy-based mission. But in the small car, it's reasonably peppy at the same time, with a suitably vintage grumble from the single exhaust system. Bright yellow on the valve cover and air cleaner works well with the basic black on the engine itself, making the machinery stand out against the white engine bay. Given the condition of the car, it should be no surprise that the engine bay is equally well-preserved with plenty of evidence of proper maintenance over the years. It starts easily and using a 3-speed manual transmission, pulls the car around with aplomb and pulls down remarkable fuel economy that's a boon to hobbyists today. The gas tank is relatively new, and original steel wheels wear a set of dog-dish hubcaps and recent 185/70/13 blackwall radials. Unusual yet eminently practical for today's times, this Comet is a great entry-level hobby car that won't cost you much now or on the road. Fast, rare, and affordable? Maybe it's time to have a closer look at the Comet. The Comet's lines have aged rather well, with the new-fastback profile accentuating the long hood and short deck theme that created the Mustang. Repainted a few years ago in basic black, it has a clean, purposeful look and you'll likely get more than a few folks asking for more information when you stop for gas. Is it perfect? No, but go find another one that's led an easy life like this one has. It hasn't been modified and it didn't require major surgery to get back into shape, and while there are a few signs of use, the overall look is pretty darned nice. We like the white pinstripe that highlights the gentle curve of the fenders and they didn't shave or delete any of the original trim. There's a very clean, straight grille up front, correct 'Comet' script on the sail panels, and blacked-out bumpers for an updated look. Believe us, this car will definitely get its share of second glances. The interior is in excellent condition and if we had to guess, we'd say that the seat covers and carpets are new, but everything else may very well be original. It's basic, yes, but that's part of the appeal with cars like this, and a few minor upgrades make a big difference. There's a fat wood-rimmed steering wheel, for example, which adds a sporty look without changing the overall vibe. You also get a pair of round dials that are reminiscent of the Mustang's instrument panel and the markings are still clear and easy to read. Remarkably, the original AM radio remains in the dash, and in 1973, that was standard fare in the Comet, along with a heater and defroster and little else. The back seat is in excellent condition and is roomy enough for real-sized adults and there's a nice, big trunk that looks to be in excellent order. Pop the hood and you'll see where the real money was spent: a 302 cubic inch V8, better known as the 5.0, and it gives this Comet some real performance credentials. There are plenty of upgrades from its humble 1973 specifications, including a 4-barrel carburetor, so it's potent without being fussy. It's nicely detailed under the hood, too, including the finned valve covers and matching air cleaner, as well as bright Ford Blue paint on the block, giving it a very correct look. You'll also find power steering on the options list, making this Comet easy to handle even with the fat rubber on the ground. It's backed by a C4 3-speed automatic transmission and original 8-inch rear end, so the components are rugged enough to put up with some fun, and the cackling Flowmaster dual exhaust definitely has that Ford 5.0 performance sound. The floors show off years in a warm climate and the late-model Mustang wheels look exactly right on this vintage Comet, especially wearing right-sized 225/50/17 Firestone radials all around. You won't see one of these at every cruise-in and the low curb weight and strong-running V8 make it a ton of fun to drive. This Comet Caliente was professionally built on a rotisserie with all floor pans and rear lower quarter panels replaced. The frame connectors were fabricated and welded in while on the rotisserie. This car shows incredibly well! The panels are incredibly straight and the body lines are CRISP! The hood and trunk lid are straight as well. The doors shut as they should without having to slam them or lift up (no sag at all). They close to reveal EXCELLENT panel gaps as well! The paint that was laid down on the body was done with extreme attention to detail! The entire car was disassembled and all painted separately. All hard to paint places have been painted VERY well! It was then assembled very carefully and trim was then put back on. The underside of the hood and trunk lid have just as good of paint on them as the exterior! The pictures and video really do not capture how well this paint reflects anything put in front of it. This paint is SO close to perfect and like I said before it shows EXTREMELY well. All of the trim and bumpers look great and shine true and bright. The headlights are clear and have no chips or cracks. The same goes for the taillights and they look incredible. All of the glass on this car looks great as well! It has won numerous awards for best paint at local car shows in Tennessee. The fenders have actually been worked to fit the vertical headlights of a 1964! The engine bay is incredibly clean and so much detail has been added under the hood. The end result is a fuel 1999 Cobra transplant! The reliability of modern technology in a timeless rare Comet! As pictures show there is so much added chrome and polished aluminum that it is blinding! The paint in the bay is incredible! It shows just as well as the exterior. The interior is SHOW quality as well, with custom covered two tone seats that do not even look like they have been sat on before. The carpet is all brand new and if free of rips, stains or tears. The Comet floor mats are a nice touch as well. The center counsel appears to be brand new and looks great. The dash and door panels all have custom paint on them and the paint shows well. The gauges are clear and not foggy at all (super easy to read). The switch for the electric dumps is hidden under the dash. The headliner is nice and tight and is super clean as well. All of the door hardware works as it should and all of the interior trim shines as well as the exterior. They did not skip a beat on this car! It drives incredibly well and sounds amazing at idle and even better when you get into the gas. It starts, runs and drives as a muscle machine should. It pulls STRONG through every gear and hits every gear without any problem at all. It shifts smooth like butter. Having a 99 Cobra rear-end it is a highway machine and will drive you were ever you would like to go! At just shy of 3000 pounds this Comet scoots extremely well and is an absolute blast to drive! With a subtle color combination, an appealing black interior, and a strong V8 drivetrain, it's a hobby car you can enjoy without guilt. The idea of the small car isn't a new one, and even upscale Mercury was getting in on the act with the Comet. It offers styling cues taken from the full-sized machines sitting next to it in the showroom, but thanks to compact proportions, it was easy to drive and remarkably quick when equipped with a V8 engine. This one shows good straight bodywork thanks to a lifetime in the south, and while the color is subtle, this one gets all its attention simply by being unusual. Dramatically carved sheetmetal topped by tiny fins that were the '50s last gasp give it a lot of visual interest, and are actually helped by the subtle paint. Chrome and trim are quite good, and even on this budget classic Comet, there's quite a bit of it, including the big bumpers and ornate grille up front. The stainless strip running the length of the body and two trios of taillight lenses give the Comet a lot of visual pizzazz that make it look more expensive. The attractive black interior is another way in which the Comet looks like it should cost way more than it does. One look at the tasteful black vinyl with its square stitching instantly reminds you of the other more expensive cars in the Mercury lineup, and that's completely on purpose. Matching door panels are remarkably stylish for a basic car, with about only the armrest showing age after nearly 50 years of elbows resting on it. The instrument panel is a handsome and functional design that includes wood appliques for warmth and to match the woodgrained steering wheel. The 3-speed manual transmission with column shift makes the Caliente feel quick around town and feels more involving for the driver. Tidy carpets, a taut headliner, and an accessory AM/FM radio under the dash, it certainly doesn't feel like Mercury's lowest-priced car that year. Even the trunk is nicely finished and comes complete with a full-sized spare and jack assembly. Ford's trusty 302 cubic inch V8 fits neatly with the Comet's economy-based mission. It's a 1968 engine, but thanks to the interchangeability of the small block engines, it slots right in without modifications. It transforms the lightweight Mercury and you'll recall that the 1965 Mustang was based on this same platform. Ford Blue on the engine itself makes the machinery stand out against the satin black engine bay, and while it's not yet detailed for show, it does have a factory look that helps it blend with the engine bay. It starts easily and has a bit of a muscular voice thanks to a brand new exhaust system. With highway-friendly gears out back, the stout V8 pulls the car around with aplomb and might even make it a bit of a sleeper. Original steel wheels with hubcaps and 195/75/14 whitewall radials certainly help with that impression. Unusual yet eminently practical for today's times, this Comet is a great entry-level hobby car that won't cost you much now or down the road. The second owner, who had the car for nearly 15 years, spent over $200,000 restoring this amazing R-Code Cyclone. The final result is nothing short of spectacular! This 1967 Mercury Cyclone is visually stunning from every angle, with excellent body & paint. The VIN stampings on the radiator support and fenders show that much of the original 100% rust-free sheet metal remains intact. The Elite Marti Report breaks it all down and lets us know exactly how this awesome machine left the factory back in 1967. Again, only (19) ‘427’ R-Code Mercury Cyclones were built in 1967, and this one came w/ just the right equipment in my opinion. I HAVE FOR SALE A 1965 COMET CALIENTE. I PURCHASED THE CAR OVER TEN YEARS AGO. IN THE TEN YEARS I HAVE OWNED THE CAR I MIGHT HAVE PUT 100 MILES ON IT. THE CAR SITS IN THE GARAGE. SO RATHER THEN LET THE CAR SIT IN MY GARAGE FOREVER I FIGURED I WOULD TRY TO SELL IT. I HAVE DID NOTHING TO THE CAR SINCE I PURCHASED IT OTHER THEN CHANGING OIL AND SPARK PLUGS. THE CAR IS IN GOOD SHAPE. THE FRAME AND TORQUE BOXES ARE GOOD. THE PASSENGER TORQUE BOX HAS BEEN REPAIRED(IN PICTURES). NO RUST HOLES IN FLOORS. THE FENDERS AND DOORS ARE SOLID . ROCKERS GOOD. THE BOTTOMS OF THE REAR QUARTERS HAVE BEEN REPARIED AT ONE TIME. THE HOOD AND TRUNK LID ARE SOLID. UNDER THE HOOD THE SHOCK TOWERS ARE SOLID. THE PAINT ON THE CAR STILL HAS SHINE BUT IS IN NO WAY PERFECT. THE INTERIOR IN THE CAR IS IN GOOD SHAPE FOR THE YEAR. THE CARPET AND DOOR PANELS ARE ORGINAL BUT IN DECENT SHAPE. THE BACK SEAT IS NICE. THE DASH PAD IS GOOD. THE FRONT SEAT HAS A FEW TEARS WHERE THE SEAMS ARE. THE CAR HAS THE FACTORY AM RADIO. THE HEADLINER HAS BEEN REPLACED AT ONE TIME. THE CAR STILL HAS THE ORGINAL 289 ENGINE IN IT. IT HAS THE ORGINAL FACTORY 2 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES. IT HAS DUAL EXHAUST WITH THE FACTORY EXHAUST MANIFOLDS. THE ENGINE STILL HAS THE ORGINAL YELLOW VALVE COVERS AND AIR CLE ANER. THE ODOMETER SHOWS 75000 BUT I AM SURE ITS OVER 100000. THE MILEAGE ON TITLE IS EXEMPT. THE CAR RUNS AND DRIVES FINE. IF I WAS TO DO ANYTHING TO THE CAR, I WOULD PROBABLY REPLACE THE REAR WINDOW GLASS SEAL. IN FIFTY YEARS ITS STARTING TO DRY OUT BUT NEVERED WORRIED ABOUT IT CAUSE THE CAR SITS IN THE GARAGE. I WOULD LIKE TO SELL THE CAR BUT IN NO WAY GIVE IT AWAY. THESE CARS ARE GETTING HARD TO FIND LET ALONE ONES THAT ARE NOT ALL RUSTED UP. THIS CAR IS 49 YEARS OLD SO IT IS FAR FROM NEW.
