The sheetmetal is straight, the Nailhead V8 is an incredible torque factory, and there's enough room inside for you and five of your closest friends. It's literally impossible to not have a good time in this car. A Buick is an adult's car, so no spoilers, no stripes, no wings, just substantial-looking bodywork with a lot of presence on the road. Admittedly, the beige paint isn't high-visibility, but it looks right for an upscale luxury car. The paint still shines up well and shows only minor signs of age and use, otherwise this is a car that gets attention. Wildcat styling is clean and elegant, with just enough chrome to prove that it's a luxury car but not so much that it looks like it's trying too hard. The chrome and stainless trim that is on the car is in excellent shape, particularly the bright rocker trim that makes the car look a mile long and the unique grille with a variation on Buick's famous "Bombsight" right in the center. And just check out how well it fits! This is a car that hasn't been hit or rusty and it shows! Most of the interior is original, too, with an awesome low-key look that nails the mid-1960s luxury look. The two-tone bench seats have probably been reupholstered, mostly because they just look too nice to be 50 years old, but things like the door panels, carpet, and dash pad are unquestionably very nice originals. The dash, with its two big, round dials, should look familiar to anyone who has driven an early Riviera, and it's simply gorgeous. The original Sonomatic AM radio still lives in the dash and those cool aircraft-style switches under the dash hood were a Buick trademark throughout the '60s. The feel of a clean original car is tough to beat, so the doors close securely, the windows wind up and down smoothly, and that big steering wheel feels substantial in your hands. Overhead there's a white convertible top that's possibly original and in good condition, and it stows under a tan boot that fits quite well. There's also a cavernous trunk with a full-sized spare and original jack stowed in the quarter panel. If you haven't driven a Nailhead-powered Buick, you're missing out on a rather extraordinary experience. The 401 cubic inch V8 under the hood of this Wildcat makes 445 pounds of torque (just as it says on the air cleaner lid) and it moves like it's two weight classes smaller. It's also impeccably smooth while it goes about its business and idles with a muscular sound that is perfect for a luxury car like this. The engine bay is quite original, with factory-applied turquoise engine enamel, and while it's not perfect and shiny, it is well-maintained with many recent service parts that make it run beautifully. 1964 was the first year for the TH400 3-speed automatic transmission, and it just shrugs off all that torque churning through it and with 3.42 gears out back, this big ragtop feels awfully spry. The underside of this car is shockingly clean and again, very well maintained. 225/75/15 whitewall radials on Dante Red wheels with full wheel covers are the perfect finishing touch. As I said, this is a really amazing find at this price. Big power, a top that goes down, and an unusual nameplate all add up to a car that's going to deliver a huge amount of fun per dollar. This 1961 Buick Invicta 4-door hardtop makes a convincing case for GM's second-in-line marque with lots of luxury and a torque factory of a Nailhead V8 under the hood. You don't think of Buicks as sleepers, but this one pulls it off in terms of both performance and value; this is an awful lot of car for the money. For most of America, tailfins were dying but at Buick, they were already designing the future with clean-sheet designs that were conservative but handsome, looking forward to the chiseled look that would define the 1960s. The 4-door hardtop was a sporty yet practical model, and the Invicta brought big Buick luxury in a more modest package. This one was originally code D Newport Gray, but somewhere along the line it was repainted a color a little more akin to code P Turquoise Iridescent, which makes the big Buick seem a little less formal. The pointed front fenders and "venti ports" were a Buick trademark that work really well here, and judging from the fit of the doors, the straight sheetmetal, and clean bodywork, this car has not lived a hard life. There's still plenty of big car chrome, including the front bumper, decorative side trim, and those very cool taillights make a real statement when this heavy cruiser wooshes past you. It's really a nice looking car! Full-sized luxury is a real thing when you drive a Buick, and this highly original interior delivers Buick's version of 1960s style. We believe the seats have been reupholstered using a gray fabric that's similar to the original stuff, but the rest remains OEM. The handsome door panels are ornate and beautifully done and the dash is a combination of jet-age styling and functionality. Perhaps the most remarkable feature is the Mirro-Magic instrument panel, which uses a tilting mirror to move the speedometer into your line of sight, a very cool feature that works better than you'd expect. There's also a cool clock in its own pod atop the dash and twin cockpit styling that belies this car's staid reputation. The original Sonomatic AM radio is still in the dash and shockingly enough, it includes fully functional factory A/C! Rear seat room is massive, as is the trunk, which still carries its original mats and a recent full-sized spare that's never been down. This A-body General Motors coupe carries plenty more curves than its more common Chevelle cousin. Plus, it's hard not to stare at the great two-tone Saddle Mist paint with a Regal Black painted top. 1965 Buick Wildcat, Very well preserved and well taken care of car. Top is original and in excellent condition. All interior including the carpet is original with no fading and in excellent shape, has rare deluxe interior as well. All original components still in the trunk, all cardboard partitions and mat sections. No rust at all on this car, Underside and under doors all excellent. The paint on the tops of the fender and the hood is original paint. The sides have been repainted as there were some scratches down both sides of the car, all minor but still warranted attention. Car was painted with a Lacquer paint and is a near perfect match as you cannot see the break line on the fenders. looks original. All door jams, under hood and under trunk are all original paint, so there is nothing hidden. We just took this car on a 600 mile road trip over labor day, not issues at all, car averages about 15-16 mpg and floated down the highway very well. I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere. I think you would be hard pressed to find a nicer survivor Wildcat anywhere in the country. Priced to sell as we have other projects in the works. Up for sale in the Houston showroom is one awesome 4 door, the 1963 Buick Electra 225. The Buick Electra was a full-size premium luxury car built by the Buick division of General Motors. Buick\'s largest, plushest and most expensive models were restyled for 1963, with distinctive rear quarter panels culminating in a sharp vertical edge housing narrow back-up lights. The taillights are horizontally placed in the vertical deck cove. The unique cast grille was used at the front. Bright wheelhouse and lower body moldings, with ribbed rear fender panels were used. The idea was as simple then as it is today: appeal to a younger clientele to ensure the continued survival of the company. Well, whoever checked the options sheet for this awesome 1970 survivor certainly wasn't typical 'doctor's car' clientele. Its original, 455 cubic inch Stage 1 V8 was a go-to heavyweight for both stoplight brawlers and drag strip warriors. Its original Muncie 4-speed is as spirited as it is reliable. And its rare H1 trailer towing option means that someone was certainly thinking outside the box. Maybe that sort of enthusiasm is also why the car has been immaculately maintained for 45 years and, subsequently, was certified Gold by the Buick GS Club of America. If you're in the market for a top-notch example of one of the coolest Buicks ever produced, this national award winner is just the car you've been looking for! BODYWORK/TRIM Known throughout the Buick world as the 'trailer hitch GS455', this super clean Stage 1 features a solid body that conveys a sense of integrity perfectly befitting its parent division. Consistently providing its various owners with a great combination of rock-solid reliability and full-throttle comfort, that body has never been separated from its chassis. Fittingly, a smooth coat of original Diplomat Blue paint reflects an original vinyl roof. And presently, this Buick's desirability as something that's as rare as it is unique is both genuine and fitting. By 1970, Buick had pretty much perfected its top dog performance offerings both mechanically and aesthetically. At the front of the car, a clean, silver-trimmed grille hangs a bold GS emblem between a broad bumper, chrome-trimmed headlights and clear parking lamps. At the top of that grille, a scooped hood leads the eye to factory-tint glass, which is sealed behind tri-shield mirrors, traditional door handles and polished stainless trim. At the base of that glass, correct door guards and correct door edging perfectly complement straight wheel frames, red-trimmed rocker plates and classy GS Stage 1 ornamentation. And at the back of the car, a second broad bumper centers a classy "BUICK" script between clear tail lamps, correct deck trim and a fourth "GS" emblem. ENGINE While the exterior of this slick A-Body does an excellent job of upholding GM Design's world-class visual aesthetics, the engine compartment is where purists REALLY start to take notice. And for good reason too, because the 455 cubic inch Stage 1 V8 that's bolted between the car's rust-free fenders is the kind of killer powerhouse that makes people either put up or shut up. Turn the key and a big Quadrajet carburetor mixes air from a black, dual-snorkel cleaner with fuel that's supplied by carefully bent stainless, and shoves it into a correct, cast iron intake. That intake feeds cast iron heads, which ride between a familiar points distributor and high quality Taylor plug wires. Spent gases are jetted through correct, cast iron manifolds, which ride under traditional chrome valve covers. And a correct, heavy-duty radiator, which circulates water around an old school Frigidaire AC compressor via pliable GM hoses and reproduction tower clamps, provides ample cooling. The red-dipped block looks surprisingly clean, dressed in an array of vintage decals and framed in requisite GM Satin Black. Correct ancillaries, like a rebuilt Delco Moraine brake booster, a Saginaw steering box and a reproduction Delco battery, prove someone has put a lot of thought into keeping this all-GM Buick all GM. And naturally, the monster mill centers a correct 1231738 casting number behind a correct "SS" assembly stamp and matching partial VIN. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Under this Buick, it's just as the factory planned, with solid, undercoated floors living a functional, unglamorous existence. An original Muncie 4-speed hangs a matching partial VIN between a correct 3925661 casting number and Muncie (P) M21 (B) assembled on March 18th (18), 1970 (0) build stamp. That stalwart gearbox jerks a correct 10-bolt axle, which is finished with a correct posi-traction differential and correct, 3.42 gears. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is a familiar Rallye Ride Control Suspension, which pairs factory power steering with better springs, better shocks, a thicker front sway bar, a standard rear sway bar and boxed rear control arms. The car's optional power front disc and rear drum brakes are present and accounted for. On the outside of those brakes, chrome Buick Rallyes twist G60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GTs around red, white and blue center caps. And the aforementioned manifolds dump spent gases in to aluminized pipes, which make excellent use of throaty turbo mufflers. INTERIOR Pop the sculpted doors and you'll find a correct code 188 Black interior that's still factory-fresh in virtually every way. Comfy seats and fade-free door panels continue the rich feeling of the car's royal Diplomat Blue exterior. In front of those seats, an original dash frames a correct AM/FM radio, controls for the aforementioned air conditioning and clear telemetry that includes a correct tachometer. At the base of that dash, correct consolettes highlight classy Buick ornamentation and a familiar Hurst shifter. At the base of that console, heavy duty, shield-branded floor mats protect color-keyed carpet. Opposite that carpet, a tight headliner frames a correctly lit mirror. The driver keeps tabs on the road through a retro Buick steering wheel. And the passengers stash their luggage beside a full-size spare tire in the car's clean trunk. Cars like this 1964 example are no longer bargain-priced leftovers, but first-rate collectables that also happen to be some of the best driving cars of the period. Bill Mitchell re-wrote the playbook with the Riviera, dumping everything that had made GM the biggest company in the world. No chrome, no fins, no extra flash, just an ultra-clean, perfectly proportioned personal luxury car that redefined an entire segment. Finished in correct code H Wedgewood Blue, this one captures the sophisticated and subdued elegance of the design, letting the many wonderful details do the talking instead. With a recent repaint, it is in outstanding condition, with nary even a door ding on its chrome-free flanks. Fit and finish are good, showing careful workmanship when the time came to bolt it back together. The chrome that does remain, including the delicate wrap-around bumpers, cool bombsight hood ornament, and faux intakes on the quarter panels, all looks original and is definitely up to the standards set by the rest of the car. Even in a pastel color, this is a car that gets noticed! It shouldn't be a surprise that a long line of A-list celebrities owned early Rivs, and the interior is certainly up to their standards. With a beautiful mixture of materials, it looks like an executive's office on the top floor in New York, and to give you some idea of how well-preserved this car is, most of the interior is original. The seat covers are in excellent condition, and we're guessing they've been replaced at some point, but everything else appears to be vintage 1964 and in very good condition. The instrument panel is a fantastic display of restraint, with lots of brushed stainless, big, round gauges, and simple angles that look right. Even the stubby chrome shifter is a little piece of art that not only looks great but falls easily to hand, reminding you that the Riv was built to be driven. Door panels are quite good save for some fading on the arm rests and the plush carpets provide a hushed interior ride. Options include factory A/C (which needs to be serviced), and an AM radio, which is ripe for an upgrade, because this is a car you're going to want to drive. Even the trunk is neatly finished and includes a full-sized spare. Buick knew that effortless performance was the key to the Riviera's success, so they made sure that there was plenty of torque on tap to move all that sheetmetal with ease. With 401 cubic inches and an advertised 465 pounds of torque (that's the '465' in Wildcat 465) it gave this personal luxury car the ability to humiliate some pretty serious machinery out on the street. The engine bay is clean and shows signs of life-long maintenance and no signs of abuse or even minor modifications, and we've confirmed that this is the car's original, numbers-matching engine. It's linked to Buick's unique Turbine 300 transmission which offers silky smooth shifts, while a set of 3.23 gears allows it to cruise across the desert towards Las Vegas at high speed with barely a whisper. A new Flowmaster dual exhaust system sounds just about right for the muscular Riv, and 225/75/15 whitewall radials are fitted along with flashy wire wheelcovers. Prices are moving on these awesome cars, and while it won't make you rich overnight, it'll certainly feel like it from behind the wheel.
