Once that intense labor resulted in good fit and finish, a smooth Dresden and Starmist Blue basecoat was sealed in durable clearcoat and buffed to a fantastic shine. And today, this Ford sits as one razor-sharp drop-top that's ready to turn heads for years to come. Not surprisingly, this exceptionally clean Fairlane's stylish body features a roster of cool and carefully maintained details. At the front of the car, an exaggerated egg-crate grille hangs clean headlights above simple parking lamps, a linear header emblem and a guarded bumper that bends around peaked fenders. Between those fenders, a chrome-detailed hood leads the eye to wraparound glass that's reflected by twin spot lights, cleared with bright wipers and framed in thick trim. Below that trim, sculpted door handles, subtle fender skirts and polished rocker guards perfectly complement streamlined side sweeps, expressive "Fairlane 500" scripts and small Select Aire emblems. Above those emblems, a blue vinyl roof folds in front of a centered decklid antenna. Behind the beefy Y-block, a stalwart Ford-O-Matic 3-speed sends power to a familiar Ford 9-inch that's fitted with an open differential and pleasant, 3.10 gears. The car's suspension remains close to its original configuration, with factory power steering and front spring spacers complementing factory control arms and traditional leaf springs. All of the chassis' parts are free of substantial weathering, reinforcing the idea that it's been a very long time since this 500's seen daily-driver duty. Braking is quick and adequate thanks to fresh drums that occupy all for corners of that chassis. And on the outside of those drums, correctly painted wheels spin G78-14 Coker Classic whitewalls around classy chrome hub caps. Two-tone paint is legendary for its characteristically 50s feel. And when paired with this convertible's airy interior, it creates the perfect culmination of style and sophistication. Thanks to the car's high quality restoration, its pleated bench seats will be livable for years to come. There's tight carpet that, thanks to thick floor mats, still features rich black loops. Front and center, a stylish, two-tone dash hangs restored Ford telemetry above a modern Kenwood CD player. With a few traditional tricks and brilliant Viper Red paint, it gets in your face and demands your attention, but thanks to a quality build, reliable mechanicals, and a handsome interior, it's the guy driving it who will enjoy it most. Frenched headlights, shaved chrome and trim, and a lowered stance make the otherwise stock bodywork look pretty sleek. This fat-fendered Chevy combines all the styling cues that you'd expect with the fantastic 1941 styling, which was the pinnacle of pre-war design. For a car that was built back in the 1990s, it still looks amazingly fresh and with the red paint and styling details, it'll never look dated, you know, like those pastel rods with the scallops. Turn signals are nicely integrated into the fenders just below the headlights, there are tiny side mirrors, and the formerly 2-piece windshield has been V-butted together, which makes a tremendous difference in the way the car looks overall. In back, the license plate frame is frenched into the deck lid and the stock taillights blend almost seamlessly into the fenders. Smooth chrome bumpers round out the look (no pun intended) and give it a classic 1940s vibe. The first-class interior is a beautifully-stitched combination of leather, vinyl, and tweed and the tan color makes it bright and airy inside the sporty coupe. Power bucket seats from a late-model Ford almost look like they were intended to be here from the beginning, and a custom center console between them gives it a very finished look. The dash was completely remade, and featured a polished face with inset Dakota Digital instruments that give it a high-tech feel. The driving position is comfortable thanks to a tilt column with a leather-wrapped wheel, and visibility is excellent. Features like A/C, power windows and locks, and a powerful AM/FM/CD stereo mean that you can drive it to work every day if that's your thing and you'll never once miss your modern machine. The back seat is neatly trimmed to match and includes its own console, while the trunk is finished with custom side panels that you won't mind showing off. The powertrain doesn't break any new ground, but it is reliable, powerful, easy to service, and lots of fun to drive. A 350 cubic inch Chevy V8 seems like the appropriate choice here, and they certainly didn't cut any corners during the build to get it in there. Lots of shiny polished aluminum, chrome, and stainless steel makes it show-worthy, but it's also highly functional with a giant aluminum radiator, power steering and brakes, and an upgraded ignition system. Backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic and 10-bolt rear end, it's a combination that was sorted out decades ago and remains an excellent choice for guys who like to drive their rods. A custom A-arm front suspension with coil-overs and rack-and-pinion steering makes it feel sharp on the road, while out back there's a conventional 4-link. A stainless gas tank and a snarky exhaust note make this a car you will never hesitate to drive. Big 20-inch Greeds wheels give it an awesome profile and an updated look, particularly with low-profile Nitto rubber. Originally Tahitian Turquoise over white vinyl, nobody will complain about the handsome white paint this Malibu wears today. It's been driven and used a bit, so it's not perfect, and the cowl induction hood isn't quite perfect, but the overall impression is a good one. The low-profile looks of the Malibu SS have aged well, and this one benefits from the traditional performance look of a cowl-induction hood. Even with that bit of performance image, this one exudes class and dignity, and with a muted rumble from its exhaust, it's got a quiet confidence that works rather well. There's minimal trim, although what is in place is in excellent condition, with bright chrome bumpers, a straight grille, and correct Malibu SS badges on the quarters. The bright red vinyl interior is a great contrast to the white paint, presenting an unusual yet period correct combination that truly stands out. Buckets and a center console are highly desirable upgrades, and the seat upholstery is expertly restored with correct materials and patterns. New red carpets and fresh door panels look fantastic, giving the interior a bright, airy feel that makes this car very easy to live with. The original gauges have been replaced by modern Stewart Warner pieces that fit neatly into the dash for a very clean installation. The two-tone steering wheel and column combination looks awesome and there's a modern AM/FM/CD stereo head unit in the center of the dash. The trunk is neatly finished with red carpets that look very clean and the recent white convertible top stows neatly under a matching red boot. As a code 38 V8 SS, a small block V8 under the hood is a natural. The 327 cubic inch V8 was rebuilt with a few upgrades and dressed like it was at the factory. The original air cleaner still lives up top, although it's been chrome plated to match the valve covers, yet wears a reproduction sticker. A newer alternator, an Edelbrock carb and intake with long-tube headers add some horsepower, and Chevy Orange paint makes it look right. It's backed by a 4-speed manual transmission and a 10-bolt rear end, so the powertrain is pretty much bulletproof, a recent Flowmaster dual exhaust system gives it a great V8 voice but doesn't betray this car's low-key demeanor. Handling is crisp, as Chevelles have always featured coil springs all around, and braking is confident despite the lack of power assist. Four 14-inch wheels with original SS wheelcovers look right and wear recent BFGoodrich redline radials that complete the simple, unassuming look. Just a tidy, no-nonsense Malibu, albeit one with a great look. Forget all the customs and flashy resto-mods, this is a car with the right look and a ton of potential. Unlike the mid-engine European cars, the Fiero's design does not sacrifice interior space. This is thanks to a very upright design that gives you a very airy feeling. The tan leather seats are exceptionally comfortable because they are buckets borrowed from a C4 Corvette. Many believed the Fiero could have handled a much larger powerplant than what went in at the factory. But what GM didn't accomplish, a few independent spirits did. So this Fiero GT is quite special with a 327 cubic-inch V8 motor in the original rear engine bay. This was rebuilt less than 5,000 miles ago, and is reported to produce around 350 hp. But more than just powerful, this small block is reliable with a new water pump and alternator installed in the last few months. The added power is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. So now this is a well-balanced mid-engine machine with plenty of power on tap, that also has a fully independent suspension, the Fiero's legendary lively steering, four-wheel disc brakes, and low-profile Falken Ziex tires.
