This incredible 1980 Trans Am is the answer to that question, boasting a long list of functional and cosmetic upgrades specified by Mr. Mitchell himself and only 9k actual miles, making this car far more than your average black Bandit. Being able to dip into the world's largest automaker's parts bin is a fantastic advantage and the result was perhaps the most amazing semi-factory second-gen F-body ever built. After leaving GM, Bill Mitchell started his own design/build firm and a few cars like this slipped out. Of course, since then it's had four owners who all cherished it like it was something truly remarkable, and while it has been lightly modified over the years (including those gorgeous oversized wheels), everyone has been very careful to respect its original specs. The incredible Starlight Black paint was recently applied at a cost of over $10,000, and we've never seen paint so deep and dark on a Trans Am before; this might very well be the best black paint job we've ever seen. Most of the Pontiac's overbearing gold decals were deleted at Bill Mitchell's shop in 1980, save for some highlights around the bumper and on the hood scoop, so it looks very sinister prowling the streets and must have blown people away back in the day. A slightly deeper air dam helps with the long, low, wide look, and impeccable fit and finish make it stand out regardless of the mods. This car is extremely impressive. The interior got a fairly comprehensive makeover at Mitchell's direction, including upgraded gauges and a special emblem on the center console, and it's all original in this car. This Poncho comes loaded with options, too, including power windows and locks, A/C, and a tilt wheel, and it's all in fantastic condition. Tan upholstery contrasts nicely with the black paint and all the traditional Firebird styling cues are there, including an engine-turned dashboard and three-spoke steering wheel. The state of preservation is truly remarkable, again indicative of the care this car has received over the years. Most notable, perhaps, is the Hurst cue ball shifter, which is tied to a Doug Nash 5-speed manual transmission, which was the biggest single modification to the Bill Mitchell Concept and truly transforms the driving experience. The trunk is also correctly outfitted with a factory mat and full-sized spare tire with cover. Bill Mitchell also specified a fire-breathing 400 cubic inch engine, which is based on a service replacement block and gently modified to generate about 300 real-world horsepower. The engine bay is quite authentic-looking, from the big air scoop up top to the Pontiac Turquoise paint on the block, although a set of ceramic-coated long-tube headers and Flowmaster mufflers were added along the way. The suspension features various tweaks to make this Trans Am a 4-seat Corvette hunter and the aforementioned close-ratio 5-speed powers a 10-bolt rear with 3.08 gears on a limited slip. Bill Mitchell also specified a set of gorgeous BBS alloy wheels to replace the factory snowflakes, and they are included with the car, although it currently wears gorgeous 17-inch snowflake reproductions with fat Kumho rubber. Documented with actual mileage, PHS paperwork, a window sticker, books, manuals, brochures, and other critical paperwork, this amazing Trans Am is not only spectacular to drive, it's also a fantastic part of Pontiac history. Believe us, we're pretty jaded to high quality cars here at Streetside Classics and this Roadster absolutely stands out at the top of the list of nicest vehicles we've seen. The beneficiary of a complete cosmetic and mechanical restoration that was done with a rust-free body, real Henry Ford steel with no patch panels, and the factory correct Brewster green paint over black fenders is near flawless. Fit and finish is very good, and it's quite likely that no Model A was even this nice coming out off the assembly line in 1931. It also carries twin sidemounts, which were optional, and a beautiful bed mounted cargo trunk made out of teakwood that makes it quite practical as a touring vehicle. The rest of the bed is finished in outstanding oak wood with matching side panels. Elegant pin stripping complements the powdercoated wheels, intricate glass etching adorns the side windows, and the legendary winged radiator cap is simply a piece of art. The interior is restored in brown leather, making for a handsome contrast against the dark green sheetmetal. The Model A is simplicity itself with no unnecessary components, but somehow Ford managed to make it stylish as well as functional. The interior is cozy for two, offering plain door panels covered in brown leather and a body-matched dashboard that is highlighted with more classy pin striping, and centers a bright instrument panel. That instrument panel offers only the basics, but what else do you expect on a vehicle without any windows? The tan canvas top folds easily giving this pickup the sporty roadster look, while optional matching door top covers keep that glossy paint looking fresh. The torquey little 201 cubic inch four cylinder engine is a delightful machine. Reliable and tough, it over-performs given its modest specifications. And this one fires right up! The engine bay presents a clean appearance, and given the reliability of these cars and the vast network of parts suppliers out there, it shouldn't be a surprise that these little engines tend to run basically forever with minimal maintenance. Speaking of that, there is a host of spare parts, as well as the original Model A tool kit, so any necessary maintenance on this one will come fun and easy. The 3-speed manual normally requires double-clutching, but with the addition of a Mitchell 2-speed rear end, shifting is smooth at any speed. This one is even capable of running comfortably at highway speeds. The charm is undeniable, both in looks and on-road performance. Certainly the nicest Model A we've offered, this one is ready to bring home some trophies and turn heads in the process. The Second Generation Corvette Stingray is a sports car that was produced by Chevrolet for the 1963 to 1967 model years. The 1963 Stingray production car\'s lineage can be traced to two separate GM projects: the Q-Corvette, and perhaps more directly, Mitchell\'s racing Stingray. This sporty little Classic 63 Corvette has a very nice 327 CID V8 that is linked to a smooth shifting 4 speed manual transmission. All 1963 cars had 327cid engines, which made 250 hp (186 kW) standard, with optional variants that made 300 hp (224 kW), 340 hp (254 kW) and 360 hp (268 kW). And there aren't many that will attract as much attention as this 1964 Riv and its sinister black-on-gray wardrobe. Add in the 401 inch torque factory under the hood and you have a car that drives as awesome as it looks. Don't let the oversized rolling stock fool you, this is a mostly stock 1964 Riv. No major element of that ground-breaking Bill Mitchell design has been altered and the 2-year-old black paint and straight bodywork mean that this is a car that you'll show proudly. Each of the three years, 1963, 64, and 65, have their notable features and everyone has a favorite, mostly coming down to whether you like the exposed headlights or the clamshells of the '65s. Regardless, nobody will ever argue that this isn't a great-looking car from any angle. The crisp sheetmetal looks formal and well-tailored, cleverly masking what is otherwise a very large car. The detailing is exquisite, from the forward-canted fenders to the subtly sunken hood to the faux vents on the quarter panels, there's eye candy everywhere you look. The trim is in good order, and it really stands out against the black paint, further accentuating the clean design that was arguably the best of the '60s. The luxurious interior has a few custom touches, but the factory really nailed it on their first try. Individual buckets flanking a full-length console give the Riv a sporty feel, but the upholstery patterns and matching pillow-tufted door panels suggest quiet luxury. A small-diameter steering wheel is easy to grab and the leather wrapper matches the upholstery quite well, so it looks right. Factory instrumentation covers only the basics, but the big dials have a clean, elegant look that's like a precision mantle clock, and there are auxiliary gauges underneath to monitor the engine. A factory Sonomatic AM radio remains in the dash and it does have factory A/C and power windows, both of which were optional on the Riviera, surprisingly enough. The rear seats are also buckets, making this a true 4-seater, and it's the kind of car where you'll marvel at the detailing as you drive simply because everything is so beautifully sculpted. In back, the trunk is neatly upholstered in black with gray side cards as well as a full-sized spare tire with cover. Buick's 401 cubic inch "Nailhead" V8 was all about torque, so much so that they advertised it on the air cleaner (included in the trunk). That's 445 pounds of torque, and it makes this Riv surprisingly fast around town. The engine was rebuilt not too long ago and it retains a very stock look under the hood. It isn't detailed but it runs and drives superbly with a great V8 growl that's unique to the Nailhead and with power steering and power brakes, it seems to shrink as you drive it because it's so easy to handle. The DynaFlow slushbox was gone, replaced by a TH400 3-speed automatic in 1964, and it makes the big engine even more effective out on the streets. The undercarriage is in excellent condition and clearly hasn't spent much time in the elements, and like I said, the stance comes exclusively from the rolling stock, which consists of 20-inch chrome wheels and low-profile performance radials. These cars will not be getting more affordable than they are today, so if you've been admiring them from afar, this might be your opportunity to get a good one before everyone else figures out how awesome they are.
