Blue Marlin Motors is proud to present this 1952 Ford Crestline – 1 of 2 “CurveMaster” Prototype cars. The car you are looking at today spent much of its life in the care of Arthur Vogel and his family, a young man who, at just 26 years old, invented the CurveMaster suspension system. This system was designed to help prevent rollovers in cars by using vacuum canisters to pull the suspension on the inside front wheel of a car during a turn to stabilize the body. In the 1960s, Vogel swapped the original powertrain for the one that you see today: a 401 cubic inch Buick Nailhead V8 and Dynaflow transmission. He also used the brakes from the Buick donor car. Unfortunately, due to patent issues, the CurveMaster system was removed, but the car remained with the Vogel family until the early 21st century. On the inside, the gauges that monitored the CurveMaster system are still present, but not functional due to the removal of the system. Power windows were added to the car some time ago, but other than that, the interior appears mostly original, including the seats, doors, and carpets. Aftermarket air conditioning has been added to the car as well. Aside from that, the interior presents as a very clean 1950s survivor, with functional interior courtesy lights and very clean upholstery. Seat belts were also added to the car – after all, its entire purpose was safety testing. Add this unique piece of automotive engineering history to your collection today. This car would be the perfect candidate for a reliable classic daily driver. It shows just over 87,000 original miles on the odometer, but you’d never know it. Turn the key, and the 235 horsepower Commander V8 fires up with the sound of the distinctive Chrysler starter and idles smoothly. Recently, the car has had new rear shocks, rear brakes, a fuel pump, starter, alternator, and a few other bits. The car has been gone through, so all you have to do is turn the key and drive. What more could you ask for? The red vinyl interior is in great shape for its age, and is all original. There have been a few gauges added to the dashboard to monitor vital signs like oil pressure and engine speed, and a cassette player was added to the dash – but the original radio can go with the car if the buyer wishes. The car was equipped with factory air conditioning, but the parts have been removed. They, too, can be included in the purchase of the car and replaced. There is a new black soft top for the power convertible roof, and a nice set of Cragar S/S wheels that give the car a sporty appearance. The paint appears to be original, and while it isn’t showroom perfect, would make a very nice five footer, or a nice car to draw attention at local car shows and cruise ins. It’s a driver that still has its original license plate and has spent its entire life in Florida. Underneath, the body and frame are rock solid and show no signs of rot. For starters, the original 305 cubic inch V8 that it left the factory with has been removed. In its place is a far-more potent 4-bolt-main 350 that has been punched out to a 383 stroker. It’s got Dart heads, a nice big lift cam that sounds killer, an aluminum intake with a Holley 760 Street Dominator carburetor on top, roller rockers, and more. This engine was built right, and has two seasons of use and enjoyment on it, so everything is broken in and ready to run. It breathes through a set of long tube headers and a stainless exhaust that sounds fantastic. Sitting at a stop light, there’s no mistaking the power that lurks under the hood of this car. Power makes it to the ground through a fully built 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission that’s capable of handling up to 500 horsepower. The interior is largely stock, with the exception of a Sunpro tachometer and a set of gauges under the radio to monitor the vital signs of the upgraded powertrain. The center console has a B&M Megashifter ratchet shifter that gives a neat ‘80s race car feel to the otherwise plain interior. There are removable T-tops as well , so when the weather is nice, put down the power windows and pop the tops out and put them in their bags in the trunk for some open-air fun… or just to listen to the killer exhaust. We won’t judge. This car was repainted just over a year ago, and the silver finish (which is the same as its original) looks great and turns heads. What more could you ask for? That’s just extra weight. Nonsense. This is a rat rod. It’s all about looking cool and going fast. The 1929 Ford Model A body is all steel. It sits on a custom built frame. Power comes from a 350 Chevy that was pulled from a Silverado. The owner slapped on a three deuce intake, put a mild cam in it, and made his own headers with glasspack mufflers. It sounds killer. It moves. It doesn’t get much cooler. The front axle is from a ’37 Ford, giving it the authentic feel. The rear end is from a 1991 Blazer – a GM 10-bolt rear end, with disc brakes. That’s right. This rat rod has four wheel disc brakes. It’s got skinny wheels up front, and fat ones in the rear – and a matching set of rear wheels to go with the fronts, should you choose to swap them out. On the inside, well, what you see is what you get. There are two seats, a switch panel in between them to start the truck, and a custom gauge pod that faces the driver to keep an eye on the vital signs. The shift knob looks like a big red Vegas casino die, and it controls the 5-speed manual that’s mated to the 350, out of the same pickup truck. It shifts well and is easy to drive. The paint? The Plymouth Deluxe Touring Coupe is essentially a two-door sedan. It’s powered by an inline six cylinder engine that displaces 201.3 cubic inches, and makes 82 horsepower. For a pre-war car, the 1937 Plymouth was quite impressive with its all steel construction. This particular car went through an incredibly extensive restoration in the early 1990s. As a reminder of its top quality and pedigree, it still wears the badge for its 1996 National First Prize winner status from the Antique Automobile Club of America. To help it breathe, a full exhaust system from Pypes was installed, and the 200R4 transmission was fully built to withstand over 500 horsepower.
