For sale in our Orlando showroom is a 1968 Chrysler Newport Convertible. 1965 saw a great change in the Chrysler lineup especially for the Newport lineup. With the release of the all new C platform the Newport gained strides in style and comfort. Based on the same styling cues of the Lincoln Continental of the time, the Newport was treated to a very modern and luxurious face lift that set these cars apart from the rest. This tuxedo Newport is equipped with the higher end super torquey 383CID V8 and Torqueflight 727 Transmission. The paint and interior on this car are all original as well as the chrome. This is an awesome Newport that has been very well cared for over the course of its life and is ready to give its new owner many years and miles of fun. The convertible top functions great and the black vinyl is still in great condition. 1966 was one of the best years for the design team at the Chrysler Corporation. With clean lines and a muscular stance, this Newport is a great combination of luxury and big block performance. The 383 cubic inch V8 runs beautifully, and with new wheels and tires this Chrysler cruises at highway speeds effortlessly. This is the last year for the art deco instrument cluster, including the very distinctive humped dashboard that houses a gun-sight speedometer, conjuring America's obsession with space exploration and flight during the 1960's. This particular Newport is in really nice shape and is ready to drive and enjoy. The lights, radio, windows, wipers, etc. all work as they should. The interior is in extremely nice shape and very comfortable. The guys at Chrysler in the '60's really hit the nail on the head with driver positioning, because from my first drive of this Newport I felt as if I'd owned it for years. I'm over 6 ft tall and it is as roomy and luxurious as any car I've owned. This Chrysler is a great chance to get a big block Mopar cruiser with a nice mix of aggressive looks and art deco luxury in a beautiful color combination. I still own my 2nd car as well, a 1983 Pontiac Trans Am, which I drove from my senior year in high school through to my second year of graduate school in the department of English at the University of Central Florida in Winter Park, FL. So my passion for classic cars -- and especially Mopars -- has been a lifelong pursuit and is about the most fun I can imagine having. I am an Oxford-educated motorhead that's been car crazy since bell bottoms were in style the first time around. And because I love to find, own, drive and collect all kinds of classic cars, there comes a point when I have to sell a few of them to keep my collection manageable, or else they all don't get exercised like they should. This is one of those times. My collection has expanded to about 16 cars, when really, if I am totally honest with myself, I should get it down to about twelve so that I have the time to drive and enjoy them all. I am a firm believer that cars should and need to be driven. And when I can't drive them all enough, I go through the process of letting a few of them go on to new owners that will hopefully get out there and drive them more than I have time to. This included paint, interior and all of the mechanicals. Engine was stripped and all parts cleaned, sandblasted and repainted. Engine was rebuilt and machined. New rod, main and camshaft bearings. Replaced Cam Shaft with reground component. Cylinder heads machined. Engine compartment was repainted. New brakes. Radiator Re-Cored. New water pump. New fuel lines. Power steering pump rebuilt. Generator rebuilt. New headlight bucket wires/dash and engine harness/air conditioner control harness/power seat control harness/power window control harness. Window switches rebuilt. Speedo rebuilt. Radio rebuilt. Seats were re-uplostered in vinyl with new foam. New headliner. New carpet. New 15x6 Chrysler Imperial wheels with P235/75R15 Coker Whitwalls all around. New exhaust system. Everything works on the car. All windows/lights/switches/radio. All of the AC components from the firewall forward have been replaced or rebuilt but the AC is currently not hooked up.
