1980 280ZX GL purchased from original owner in '05. Beautiful inside and out. The radio did not work when I bought it, so I replaced with a piece of aluminum plate and fitted a Sony stereo and the power antenna switch into the original slot. Also, I had to charge the A/C when I got it and over the past years, it has leaked down. I haven't recharged it since I'm very 'protective' of what R12 I have left. You can convert it if you would like. I have put approximately 25K on it since I purchased it, and would not hesitate to drive it back in Oregon if need be. He put the tires on it for me since he knew I would be driving it 3000 miles back home and while not bad, they might be a concern (if driving to Oregon). The tread is still decent, but they are almost 10 years old. The ONLY issues I am aware of would be two rust spots (see pic) at the bottom edge of the windshield. As you can see, I removed the paint and coated with Rustoleum to prevent farther damage. Unless you stand right over the car, you won't see the spots. There are the 'normal' rock pecks and such from traveling. Only one at the left headlight assembly that I consider mentioning (see pic). The left rear interior corner material has pulled (see pic). Very normal for these cars. While not perfect, I would have to give this an 8 or 9 out of 10 in overall condition. It never fails to crank and NEVER fails to turn heads! I am not a dealer. I am a collector and need space. I hate to let it go, but must. The car is for sale locally, so sale might end unannounced. I DO NOT SELL INTERNATIONALLY. I WILL NOT SHIP this auto. There's only 3,470 miles on the odometer, and this well-documented Datsun seems frozen in time. Think about the 3,470 miles for a moment...someone bought a brand new, top-of-the-line sports car, and then barely drove it. A Florida car it's entire life, this car was sold new in Winter Haven, Florida and has only had two owners since new. The first owner, a woman, was given this car as an anniversary gift by her husband. Then, in 1992, they sold the car to well-known Z-Collector in the Tampa, FL area who still owns the car to this day. Our consignor reports this car has never had the T-tops taken out (until our photo shoot), and even more amazingly, no one has ever sat in the passenger seat! The car has been under car cover and stored away in his collection since 1992. There's no question that's the original dark brown metallic on the sleek surfaces of this 280ZX. Everything works perfectly right down to the Z-car's iconic tri-pod gauges in the middle of the dash. The fuel-injected 2.8-liter motor is what will make it so hard to resist adding extra miles to this time capsule of a Datsun. This original engine is one of the legendary smooth and rev-happy motors that helped establish Datsun/Nissan as an exciting brand of cars. Z experts will notice this car's engine bay is still coated in the factory cosmoline coating they applied way back in 1982. With great handling and a balanced chassis, this 1982 Datsun 280ZX 2+2 provides a low-cost way into a pretty capable sports car that can still put a big grin on the driver's face. By looking at this car, you'd never really know that it has already passed its 30th birthday. Thanks to the bright silver color, which we believe is its original paint, it still looks sleek and contemporary and not nearly as dated as some of the other cars built in the early '80s. Typical of Japanese manufacturers of the period, build quality is quite good with sharp gaps and pieces that fit properly, and the paint job is holding up rather well, suggesting great care since it was new. Without stripes or add-ons like a rear wing, the car retains the clean look of the original Z-car, which itself was often compared to the E-Type Jaguar; heady company indeed. The bumpers are well-integrated into the overall design and black body side moldings add some contrast as well as being practical. The black anodized trim and rubber pieces strongly suggest a car that has always been well-maintained and kept out of the elements, and even the taillights are still bright and clear. The gray cloth interior shows a few hints of 1980s sensibility, but the bucket seats remain supremely comfortable for long hauls and supportive for aggressive maneuvers. No rips or tears in the seating surfaces are another sign of careful ownership and the original carpets remain in good shape thanks to the protection of matching embroidered floor mats. Instrumentation is traditional Z, with a big speedometer and tach for the driver and auxiliary gauges in the center of the dash, a look that still shows up in today's 370Z. Just about everything was standard on the 280ZX, including A/C, power windows, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo that was still pretty cutting-edge in 1982. The 2+2 models offered a modest rear seat that's good for kids or adults on short trips, and there's a good amount of storage space under the rear hatch, which also offers a full set of gray carpets that are in remarkable condition. The 2.8 liter inline-six provides silky smooth torque and a rorty sound that is definitely reminiscent of great sports cars from Europe. Thanks to fuel injection, it starts easily and pulls smoothly without getting fussy, and despite the complex-looking engine bay, these cars are rather easy to work on and parts are still plentiful. There are no obvious modifications and it drives like a stocker, so someone has definitely taken care of it along the way and the clean look speaks highly of the dedicated maintenance it has enjoyed. A 3-speed automatic transmission makes it easy for anyone to drive and doesn't dilute the experience one bit, as the suspension still grabs in corners and has a playful, tossable nature that only rear-wheel-drive sports cars can manage. Big disc brakes, a burly exhaust note, and handsome 6-spoke alloys with 195/70/14 Michelin radials all contribute to the entertainment factor. The day is surely coming when good Z-cars will make the A-list, but in the meantime, you'll be having too much fun behind the wheel to worry about it. Serious buyer only! I am selling my 1979 Datsun 280ZX with only 91,000 miles at the time of this posting. Mechanically this car is in excellent condition. Engine runs and idles great and the automatic transmission shifts great. Fun car to drive!!! I am an older gentleman and bought it from an older gentleman who was a collector of autos and motorcycles. · The car has a brand new Rhode Island inspection sticker in May 2015. · Oil and filter has been changed along with a new air cleaner. · New battery and lead cables installed. New rear hatch struts installed. · I had my mechanic go through this car completely in May. · Four brand new raised white letter tires installed, high speed balanced and front end alignment done. New steering pitman arm also installed. Have all the paperwork to prove this!!! The gentleman I bought the car off told me that the car has been repainted by the former woman owner to the white color you see (from originally a brown color that she did not like). The paint was done correctly as the jams were painted also. There is light surface rust in some areas, looks like some older filler starting to raise in some areas and some minor dings and a slight indent and crack in the paint on the front quarter panel easily repairable etc, but overall a solid car and the paint still maintains its shine.Lifting up the hatchback carpet the car underneath is solid and looks like new!!!Drive it as is or if you want to enter it in car shows I would recommend having the light bodywork done and repainted. Please remember this is a 36 year old car with an older paint job. Recently I took it to a Nissan/Datsun event and the auto repair guys could not believe the condition of the car for how old it is. The interior of the car is in good condition as you can see from the pictures. Someone at some point installed a new carpet in the car and the seats are in good condition. The dash has two cracks (as usual for an older car) but they are not too bad. Headliner looks like it was replaced and is in excellent condition. The door panels look in good condition also. There are no warning lights on. From what I can tell all gauges work as they should except for the trip odometer and the clock which is usual for these cars. The power windows work, locks, wipers, lights, blinkers etc. work with the exception of the light in the head liner (might just be a bulb). Even the airline(map) light works. The passenger power mirror does not work but the driver’s power mirror does. The windshield fluid sprayer does not work (common) but there is power to this area because I can hear it when you press the control. The heat works, the a/c is not blowing cold and I believe needs a recharge. The radio and antenna has power but I can only get an AM signal and the antenna mast is not going up. Honestly I would replace the radio and antenna. To the winning bidder I will include a newer modern radio if you want that the previous owner had in the car. For authenticity reasons I had the original radio re-installed (unfortunately its missing a knob). Overall for the year, in my opinion the car is in good condition. Even my mechanic was surprised at the condition of the car!!! Please remember, the car is 36 years old. Know as the “Japanese Corvette” the 280zx Turbo was an engineering pinnacle, boasting powerful performance, wrapped in a sexy, smooth body design and an ultra comfortable interior, with almost no extra cost options, as they came loaded with features. Over the years the Z went from a small no frills little sports car, to a highly polished and powerful GT tourer. The turbocharged 280ZX used a single Garrett AiResearch TB03 with an internal wastegate, and no intercooler. Nissan’s design philosophy at the time led to boost being limited to 6.8 psi (0.47 bar), despite the lowered compression of the turbo engine (7.4:1 with dished, cast aluminum pistons). Additional changes over the naturally aspirated engine included a higher volume oil pump, an oil cooler on automatic models, and Nissan’s Electronic Concentrated Control System (ECCS). Series II and Series I. At the time of its release into the US market, the 280ZX turbo was the fastest Japanese import on the American market. Which brings us to our Z. The exterior is very nice. The body, refinished in the original Fox Silver base/clear paint, and reproduction “turbo” graphics have been applied in their original locations. The body is free from dings and dents, the doors, hatch and hood all fit correctly. All of the glass is clear and crack free. The body on this car looks fantastic and doesn’t show its age. Moving under the Z, the area where most Z cars suffer, you will find a VERY dry and clean bottom. The rails have not been crushed from lifting it on racks over the years, which is very common to see and weakens the structure of the Z. 1983 Datsun 280ZX Coupe, Non-Turbo. Last year of the 280zx! I would say it's 97% originally restored. It has a few upgrades, but not many. It does, however, have the rare "Leather & Digital Pkg" option. Leather seats were beyond repair, but I found a super nice set of cloth seats from another 83. Digital gauges work exceptionally well! It has 2.8Liter Inline 6 N/A, 5-speed, PW, PDL, PM (heated), Cruise Control, PS, PB, T-Tops and the original bags they go in! Uses no oil, doesn't leak or smoke at all! It looks 100% better than it did the day I bought it! I have a clear, clean title for it and there is absolutely NO RUST in the car! Like I mentioned above, I have the majority of the receipts, but have misplaced some of them... You can look at the pics from then to now and tell what's been changed replaced. I do, however, have a ton of progress pictures, that I will put on a CD, for the new owner. I have various manuals that go with the car. As well as, the owners manual and dealer brochures. I know the Air Conditioning doesn't work, (as the compressor is locked up and one of the hoses has been removed). The front grille is there, but there's a small part broken, but it's hard to notice. The factory digital clock in the dash doesn't work either. Before you stop reading and think that's too much, just think of everything I've done to it and all the documentation I have? I'm being as honest as I can about the car. Remember, I'm an enthusiast and hate to sell it, but we need the money more than the car at the moment... This is a sound, totally rust-free, fun little car to drive, now that I've replaced everything on it! I know this car from top to bottom, front to rear, inside to outside! I am the 2nd owner of this black & gold 1980 Datsun 280ZX. It is number 2473 of 3000 of the 10th anniversary edition cars. I have owned the vehicle 9-1/2 years. I purchased it in June of 2007 in Farmington, Michigan from the original owner. It was stored in a warehouse there with other classic cars. It does not get used very much as you can tell by the low miles, 9421 miles. It has won it's class 3 times at the Japanese Classic Car Show (2007, 2008 & 2016) in California. It won 1st place in the Z division in 2015 at the Huntington Beach Concours Car Show. The car is always garaged or stored in a car trailer. All original paint. I have the original pinstriped Goodyear Wingfoot tires I use for car shows. There is plenty of tread on these tires and they are in great condition for 36 year old tires. Because of their age, I have been told it's not recommended to use them for regular driving. The wheels have the correct 10th anniversary wheel caps with chrome & the burnt orange color around the Z emblem on the caps. All other 1980 ZX's had standard chrome & black caps that still are available today. I have an extra set of tires (BF Goodrich Radial TA's) and 280ZX wheels for normal driving use. Since the car is originally from Michigan, it was undercoated by the dealership when purchased new. I had one of these anniversary cars when I was about 19 years old but couldn't afford to keep it. This one brought back great memories for me and I have enjoyed many car shows with it but I'm moving on to different things these days. Looking at the shape, it's clear that there's a little bit of E-Type Jag in there, maybe a hint of Corvette, and plenty of MG, too. Fast, light, agile, and affordable, even today, this Z is a delight. It's also nicer than most, with a recent repaint in the original Maroon Mist metallic, which is a perfect '70s burnt orange kind of color that still looks great. It's also been fitted with a deeper chin spoiler that accentuates the long, lean, low look of the Z without taking away from the clean overall look. Cars like this were often put away as sunny-day drivers, and as a result, this one shows none of the bumps and bruises of the daily grind. Chrome was still in fashion, so there are plenty of bright pieces, including both bumpers, the stainless around the windows, and even the rub strips along the sides, all of which remains in very good shape. Even things like the rubber bumper overriders are supple and haven't been cooked by UV rays, suggesting that this car has led a very sheltered existence. One of the Z-car's biggest successes is the interior, which is both sporting and functional. The bucket seats were designed by guys who knew the car would be used to its potential, so they have thicker bolsters than most cars of the period, and grippy cloth instead of vinyl helps hold you in place. Of course, all of this remains in great condition, showing only very minor wear aside from some light discoloration of the plastic parts, most notably the steering wheel and console, but it's not particularly noticeable. The dash is full of easy-to-read instruments, including a row of auxiliary gauges in the center, a look that is still evident today in the Nissan GT-R. This particular 280ZX is also luxurious, featuring factory A/C, power windows and locks, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo, all of which are fully functional. There's a positively massive trunk area under the rear hatch, because this is the 2-seater model, and the original carpets show almost no wear or fading, which is a rare thing in a car with that much hatch glass. The L28E 2.8 liter inline-six is a fantastic motor. Torquey, yet eager to rev, it was enlarged to better suit American driving tastes, as well as to make the automatic transmission a reality. It still has that same baritone wail that epitomizes big-horsepower inline-sixes, and because it's a Nissan, it's reliable and smooth. The engine bay is a bit crusty but retains almost all its original equipment, and that tangle of hoses is how the factory did it, but don't worry, it has all been regularly serviced and is in excellent running condition. An MSD ignition has been added and it fires easily and idles smoothly, so don't be afraid to rev it. It's quite clean underneath thanks to a lifetime in Georgia, and it doesn't look like there's much deviation from stock, as it even wears its original catalytic converter. The 5-speed manual transmission is a pleasure to run through the gears and stylish Koenig alloy wheels wear 215/60/15 Kumho blackwall radials for an updated look. Today, as when it was new, this 280ZX is a lot of performance for the money. If winning bidder does not contact Streetside Classic Cars and submit deposit within 48 hours of auction close, vehicle may be made available to the next highest bidder or another qualified buyer on a first come, first serve basis. 6.
