This 1951 Ford coupe is such a vehicle, offering an ultra-clean California body, fresh paint, a rumbling 302, and a gorgeous interior, all at a very attractive price. Look closely and see if you don't think this is a slam-dunk in every possible way. It's true, California cars really are better, and this handsome Ford is more proof. It was repainted two years ago using Ford Performance Red, a single-stage urethane that's as sizzling bright as the California sun. The 2-door coupe and cleaner 1951 nose give it a sporting look and the proportions are exactly right, making this one of the best-looking Fords of the period. Of course, they didn't look this good in the showroom, and a few subtle mods make it look sleek and clean without erasing its character. You'll note the door handles have been shaved, the hood ornament was deleted, and much of the stainless body trim was removed and the holes filled, but it looks so right that most folks might thing that's how it came from the factory. The finish is glossy and smooth, the result of many hours of hand labor, and it fits together extremely well overall. And the chrome that does remain was restored so it glitters against the vivid red paint, creating a car that looks good from any angle. The handsome two-tone gray tweed interior is durable and comfortable with a few nods to tradition. That's the original front seat and the upholstery patterns are pretty close to what the factory might have been doing back in 1951, pleats and all. The instrument panel is pretty much the way Ford built it, a cool sweep of '50s styling with the speedometer front and center and the auxiliary switches and dials to the right. Modern gauges under the dash help monitor the warmed-over 302 and there's a handsome 2-spoke steering wheel that emphasizes the coming Jet Age styling. The original AM radio is still in the dash, joined by an AM/FM/CD stereo head unit underneath, and it's always nice when they don't cut the car to add the creature comforts. There's also a good-sized back seat and a genuinely huge trunk, which also includes a full-sized spare tire. The original flathead is long gone, replaced by a strong-running 302 cubic inch V8 (that's a 5.0 to most of us). With an .030 overbore and about 3000 miles on the build, it runs beautifully. Everything inside is new, the rotating assembly was balanced, and it looks fantastic with those finned valve covers. An Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and intake manifold provide the air/fuel mix, a Pertronix ignition system lights it up, and a custom dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers means that it sounds like the 1950s, not a late-model Mustang. It's neatly detailed under the hood, simple but effective, with body-colored paint on the block and satin black inner fenders. The C4 3-speed automatic transmission with a mild shift kit feeds a rebuilt 8-inch rear end with 3.08 gears inside, so road trips are this car's specialty. The suspension is largely stock, although they've grafted disc brakes onto the front end for safety along with a fresh set of tube shocks. Handsome 2007 Mustang wheels have an old-school Halibrand look and carry blackwall radials for just the right stance. See what we mean? A 31 ford cabriolet , a 30 ford model A sedan and a 40 Willys sedan all gave their life up to make this car . The car sits on a 40 ford pick up frame that has been lets say "tweeked " , the front and rear bones have been curved to match the flow of the lines , the 40 rear end has juice brakes all new with an open drive adapter , the front end has new brakes as well as the 40 juice brakes . Speedway spring and mounts were used for the suicide front end . The radiator and grill came of a Hercules tractor . The engine transmission is a 350 chevy with a power glide transmission shifted by the models A park brake handle ....cool :) The interior is finished with early American poverty style seats and foam butt pads , oil pressure gauge and temp Gauge both work , the speedo will once you put a gm type cable to connect it . The car has headlights and tail/brake lights , no directional s no wipers and the windshield is clear lexan . Built several years ago, it shows very little wear and is fully sorted and ready to cruise and offers a unique take on a favorite car. Red and white might not be your first choice when you are building a rod, but after you see this awesome '39 Ford, you may change your mind. Standing out is part of hot-rodding's core, and this one does it with sophistication and clean design rather than radical body modifications. Of course, almost all of the trim has been preserved and nothing has been shaved or altered, preserving the basic goodness of the Ford coupe. Front and rear bumpers were restored, the knife-edged grille remains, as well as the classic teardrop headlights and often-copied taillights. The paint is beautifully applied over a laser-straight body, and it almost looks as if Ford designers created this car just to wear two-tone paint like this. Simple pinstripes emphasize the body's handsome contours without being overpowering or clich. Build quality is pretty impressive, and while we don't know who did the work, it's obvious that they took their time to get it right. Light gray cloth upholstery is a soft contrast to the bright paint, a classic color combination that will surely stand out at the next cruise night. With a '90s feel to the seats, it's a well-executed job that leaves plenty of room inside for stretching out on a long cruise. The seats themselves show minimal wear, and as a business coupe, there is no back seat, just a nicely upholstered area that offers tons of space for your gear. Matching carpets and artfully crafted door panels continue the theme and incorporate billet touches like the door handles and arm rests. The VDO gauges have been stashed in a color-matched panel, the HVAC controls have been hidden out of sight for a very clean look. A tilt column with a leather-wrapped billet wheel looks right at home, and the trick shifter gives it a sporting attitude. A newer AM/FM/CD stereo head unit pipes sound to a variety of speakers stashed throughout the interior and the massive trunk is fully upholstered with a neat battery box tucked in the back. The engine bay is just as slick, featuring a well-dressed 350 cubic inch Chevrolet fitted up with tons of aluminum and polished stainless. Keeping to the theme, the air cleaner, valve covers, and even the master cylinder lid are all Edelbrock pieces with matching red plug wires firing the mixture. Edelbrock also supplied the intake manifold, which is topped by a 4-barrel carburetor, and a set of custom headers dump into a beautifully finished Flowmaster exhaust system. The chassis is detailed in silver, which highlights the mechanicals and it's kind of nice to see a factory-style I-beam suspension up front. In back, there's a GM 10-bolt and a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission in the middle. You can see the attention to detail in how the brake and fuel lines are routed under the car, and with just 3306 miles on the build, everything is still in very good shape. Staggered Rally billet wheels wear 195/70/15 front and 225/70/15 rear BFGoodrich T/A radials. This Ford lets the details do the talking, and with a classic color combination, it'll never go out of style. This car also features a correct flathead V8, a bunch of period accessories, and a period driving experience that proves why these cars have been so popular for 65 years. You can see why the customizers gravitated to the early post-war Mercs, because they look chopped even in stock form. In fact, you should probably get ready for the questions and comments about the roof chop on this car. The truth is, it's 100% factory sheetmetal that's in excellent condition. The first all-new Mercury since 1942, it has a very modern look with a nicely integrated front end, a dramatic sweep along the fender lines, and a semi-fastback profile that makes it look fast just sitting still. The burgundy paint is a period-perfect choice that emphasizes the Mercury's grown-up mission, a substantial car that rightfully commands a premium. The doors fit well and use very cool pull handles, the hood sits flush, and everything lines up well from front to rear. There are a few signs of use and age, but the restoration only has about 3000 miles on it, so for the most part it's quite clean and straight. Details like the familiar electric razor grille, the stainless side trim, and gorgeous wrap-around bumpers have all been fully (and expensively) restored for a very upscale presence. The handsome cloth interior offers room for everyone with period-appropriate fabrics, simple door panels, and contrasting dark red carpets. For the most part, it's completely stock save for a set of classic Auto Meter gauges in place of the originals, mostly because the electrical system has been converted to 12 volts, and you really have to look closely to see the change. The lovely steering wheel features a delicate horn ring and cool Mercury emblem and there's a column-mounted shifter for the 3-speed manual transmission. That 12 volt conversion also permits the use of a modern AM/FM/CD stereo head unit in the center of the dash but nothing was cut or modified to make it fit, don't worry. This Mercury also includes a period "swamp cooler" accessory in the passenger's side window, seat belts, windshield visor, and a back seat big enough for real-sized humans. The trunk is fully finished with black carpets and includes a matching full-sized spare tire. Don't worry, this Mercury still packs a correct 255 cubic inch V8 which was recently rebuilt by a noted flathead mechanic. Given how easily it starts and how well it runs, he clearly knew his stuff. It's been nicely detailed, too, with proper red paint on the block, a 2-barrel carburetor up top, and factory exhaust manifolds. You'll quickly spot the 12-volt alternator and aluminum radiator, both of which improve reliability and make it a joy to drive, but the rest is quite stock so the car's original personality is totally intact. It's backed by a 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive, so it's a wonderful highway cruiser, and everything from the suspension to the brakes is 1950-spec so it drives like it should. Dual exhaust pipes with glasspack-style mufflers give it just the right flathead exhaust note. Steel wheels with dog dish hubcaps and bias-ply wide whites finish the look in the correct style. There are plenty of chopped '49 Mercurys out there, but when was the last time you saw a virtually untouched original? This is a very desirable car that's fully sorted and ready to cruise. No flames, no graphics, and all the sheetmetal is as Henry intended, which only serves to highlight the beautiful build quality that much more. Fit and finish are outstanding, with great gaps and incredibly flat panels that mean someone worked a lot of overtime. All the original trim was retained, including the swept-back grille and iconic teardrop headlamps and culminating with a pair of original taillights up on their original perches. A few subtle gold pinstripes highlight the car's many curves and the rear deck lid was shaved and smoothed for a clean look. Original chrome bumpers look great and actually add some useful protection, while the license plate disappears from view under the car every time you park. It's quite tasteful inside, too, with a leather-lined passenger compartment that pays tribute to the past but stands firmly in the 21st century. Sure, that pleated leather seats and matching door panels look like they're straight out of the '30s, but the folding armrests, power windows, and slightly more comfortable rake mean it's built for driving. The dash has been beautifully reworked to house a billet instrument panel full of Dakota Digital instruments. There's also a custom fabricated center console with the Kenwood AM/FM/iPod stereo head unit and controls for the Vintage Air A/C system. The crank-open windshield is still fully functional and there's also a tilt column with a matching leather-wrapped steering wheel. Simple is usually better, and the trunk offers more tan carpets, simple side panels, a space-saver spare tire, and plenty of storage space for long trips. Reliable, smooth performance is what you'd expect from a rod that looks like this, and the ZZ4 350 cubic inch crate motor under the hood delivers. With an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, it starts instantly and idles properly every time, and things like power steering and brakes are included. A recessed firewall is finished to the same high standards as the rest of the bodywork, and service access is excellent. There's a big aluminum radiator up front, a custom A-arm front suspension with rack-and-pinion steering, and a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission powering a set of 2.56 gears in the 10-bolt, so it's a fantastic highway cruiser. Edelbrock long-tube headers feed a custom dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers and while it's not detailed for show, the dirty undercarriage proves his car works right. Chrome steel wheels with baby moon hubcaps and trim rings are protected by a set of staggered 195/60/15 front and 235/60/15 rear BFGoodrich T/A radials. Totally sorted, incredibly reliable, and still beautiful, this '37 Ford isn't about making a scene, but you'll probably discover that it draws a crowd better than just about anything else. HE GOT THE CAR FROM HIS BROTHER IN 1957 AND STARTED OUT AS JUST A DAILY WORK DRIVER. IN THE 1960'S HE PUT IN A 1957 CHEVY 283 WITH A 3-SPEED TRANSMISSION AND DROVE THAT WAY MANY YEARS. IN EARLY 1970's HE TOOK OUT THE 3-SPEED AND PUT IN A POWERGLIDE AUTOMATIC OUT OF A 1968 CHEVELLE. HE STARTED TO FIX IT UP AS A MILD STREET ROD HAVING THE CAR REPAINTED IN THE 1980's AND HAVING THE INTERIOR REDONE IN A GREY CLOTH MATERIAL AND ADDING A SET OF VW BUG BUCKET SEATS. STILL HAS ORIGINAL DASH AND STEERING COLUMN AND STEERING WHEEL. The '40 Ford's popularity can't be denied, and with a gorgeous blue metallic paint job, purple ghost flames, and a matching ultra leather interior, this coupe is an awesome choice for the guy who would rather drive his car than turn a wrench. Finished just a few years ago and showing less than 8500 shake-down miles, the builder wisely chose to leave Henry's almost perfectly styled bodywork as the factory made it. That means no chopped top, no shaved trim, and laser-straight bodywork. The two-stage urethane paint has just a hint of metallic in it, enough to make it glow in the sunlight, but not so much that it is overpowering, and the elegant electric blue color is one of the most popular, then and now. Ghost flames lock along the nose, showing up when the light's just right and outlined in purple for a wonderful effect. The original trim has been preserved and restored to show condition, with fresh chrome bumpers, beautiful headlight surrounds, and that characteristic V-shaped grille up front, which was actually almost identical to the 1939 Deluxe grille (Ford made last year's Deluxe models into the following year's Standards). Out back, the chevron-shaped taillights are original and so cool that thousands of non-1940 Fords have borrowed them for style alone. Hinge-mounted "peep" mirrors have been mounted on both sides, and all the stainless has been polished to a show-quality shine. Wilson Brother's ultra leather give the interior a feel akin to a late-model luxury vehicle, and the driver's side bucket seat offers power adjustments to make long-distance cruising a pleasure. The original dash remains intact, with a custom billet instrument panel full of Dakota Digital gauges keeping an eye on the engine's vitals. A gorgeous leather-wrapped banjo steering wheel successfully combines originality and luxury, and the tilt column also carries the shifter for the automatic transmission. Other features include power windows, cruise control, and a neatly integrated HVAC system in the dash. Speakers hidden in the kick panels and in the rear package area are powered by an AM/FM/CD head unit with a remote control and a 6-disc CD changer hidden out of sight. The rear seats have been eliminated, and in their place is a beautifully sculpted storage area, with a trunk fully upholstered in matching materials with gorgeous sculpted accents. Thanks to a Vortec 350 cubic inch Chevy crate motor, nice cam and roller rocker arms, cruising is effortless, yet with a lot of pop. With an eye on reliability and comfort, the engine was fitted with an Edelbrock Air Gap carb and intake, a Crane valvetrain, and a set of block-hugging exhaust headers that are easy to package and help control under-hood heat and noise. Chevrolet also served up a set of chrome valve covers and there's a matching air cleaner up top, which works well with the polished aluminum accessories. The highly detailed Ford frame has been fitted with a Fatman chassis w/ front and rear sway bars, A-arm front suspension with disc brakes (at all 4 wheels) and rack-and-pinion steering, while a 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission handles the gear changes and exhaust rumbles through a dual Flowmasters. Out back, a Ford 9-inch hangs on leaf springs which complement the lowered front end, giving the car a classic rake. Skinny 195/65/15 front and fat 225/70/15 tires have been fitted to a set of polished Torque Thrust wheels, a look that simply never goes out of style.
