We can't seem to keep them in stock, and while it took a while for them to catch up to their Chevy competition, they represent a great way to get some vintage iron for not a lot of cash. Of course, the biggest problem with collecting old pickups is finding the clean ones. You know, the ones that haven't been beaten, used to push a plow, or just ignored while tools beat up their beds. Fortunately, this F-100 seems to have been treated well for most of its life, so the bodywork is in good order and it doesn't feel used up. The classic red paint job recalls the glory days of early working-class pickups, and this one has just a bit of patina on it that makes it look right at home out by the barn. It was repainted in the 20th century, so it's not a show piece, but it doesn't need any immediate help today and offers a nice, clean, honest look. The grille is shiny, the bumpers are new pieces, and it must have been a real challenge to find a tailgate insert that well-preserved. And speaking of the tailgate, the bed is in good shape with just enough scuffs to let you know it doesn't mind working to earn its keep. Working class accommodations don't have to be crude, but we'll admit that the original vinyl bench needs a new seat cover. Today it's protected by a traditional "Mexican blanket" cloth cover that gives it a familiar look and is actually rather comfortable. Gray carpets on the floor brighten things up and that handsome Grant steering wheel really dresses things up inside. The gauges look like they were borrowed from some '50s show car, offering a complete array of instruments to watch the engine, all surrounded in a stylish bright metal bezel. There are also auxiliary gauges under the dash, just ahead of the big B&M shifter for the C6 3-speed automatic transmission underneath. Even the original AM/FM radio is still in the dash, although it's probably due for an upgrade today. Ford trucks got their own line of engines, with the 390 cubic inch V8 in this one being a very popular choice. But there's no V8 that can't be made better with the addition of things like an pair of aluminum Edelbrock heads, a matching Edelbrock intake and 4-barrel carburetor, headers, plus a rumbling dual exhaust system. It's also quite neatly dressed, with a chrome Edelbrock air cleaner and Ford Motorsport valve covers, just for effect. It's got less than 500 miles on the build, and both power steering and brakes are part of the package, so you can drive this truck daily if you feel like it but it'll be hard to keep your foot off the loud pedal once you feel all that torque. The chassis is quite clean, somewhere between immaculate original and an older restoration, but you won't find any rust or structural damage and plenty of evidence that this truck was purely transportation and not a workhorse. It has just the right stance to look sporty, which is surely enhanced by the new Pacer aluminum wheels wearing fresh blackwall radials. The market has definitely noticed these trucks, and with a little polish and elbow grease, this could be a very impressive addition to the field. Of course, that's easy to understand when they were as handsome and rugged as this short bed/regular cab example, which offers an awesome color combination, options like factory A/C, and a great-running 390 cubic inch V8. This vintage hauler offers just the right combination of functionality and flash, and the current condition is a wonderful testament to someone's rather large investment in its restoration. The sinister black paint accentuates the truck's square-jawed look, and it looks like there's no project it can't handle. It also appears that this has always been a super clean original truck, because there's no evidence of panel replacements or metal surgery under the paint, and as a lifelong southern truck, rust is not an issue. All the trim is in great condition, including the cool stainless side molding that stretches the entire length of the truck, accentuating the length of the 6-foot bed. The front bumper is chrome and in excellent shape and the grille with its trademark high-mounted parking lights is instantly recognizable as a Ford from a mile away. In back, there's another shiny chrome bumper and the solid bed has been finished with a non-skid bed liner material, making this truck ready to work or play. Oh, and a set of bed rails gives it a sporty look that's also highly functional. The handsome black cloth interior is so nice it almost hurts your eyes to look at it. The neatly upholstered bench seat wears funky '70s style cloth and shows that even a working class truck can have some style. The seat cover and door panel inserts appear to be brand new, while the gauges and instrument panel are original and in very good condition. Ford gave F100 buyers a comprehensive set of instruments, but in 1974, things like A/C and an automatic transmission were expensive options (fortunately, this truck has both). There's a newer AM/FM/cassette stereo in the center of the dash feeding speakers in the doors and upgraded units behind the seat, and it sounds impressive given the well-insulated cabin. Newer black carpets certainly help with that and look great at the same time. 390 cubic inches is more than sufficient to get this truck moving in a hurry, and the engine bay itself is extremely clean and nicely detailed for a stock look. You'll find nice Ford Blue paint on the engine itself and satin black engine accessories like the massive A/C compressor. New hoses, plugs, wires and other maintenance items were installed during the restoration, so it runs and drives beautifully, with a great V8 rumble to the exhaust, which comes complements of Flowmaster. The 3-speed automatic is virtually bulletproof and the chassis is proof enough that this is a clean truck from down south, one that's had a good amount of cash poured into it. Color-matched wheels with chrome trim rings and centers are exactly the right choice and carry 255/75/15 Firestone radials. If you're of a certain age, you grew up when these trucks were everywhere, but today nice ones are hard to find. Beautifully finished, surprisingly fast, and totally practical, this is an awesome truck at an awesome price. It's a real four wheel drive model with 4.10 geared limited slip differentials front & rear that means all SIX wheels are pulling and not just one on each side front & rear. With a LIKE NEW set of NITTO tires, you really can go just about anywhere in this truck!Power is from the legendary Powerstroke diesel. Yes, this is a 6.0 diesel but don't worry it has already had the EGR deleted so you can rest assured that the 6.0 problem area has been put to rest. We have also installed an H&S tow tune for better power & fuel economy. The engine was already putting out a plenty powerful 325 horses but with this tow tune we bumped it an extra 40 horsepower. There are no other 6.0 issues either it starts right up hot or cold and runs perfect. The injector control module was replaced 20k miles ago as well. With only 220k miles, this truck is barely broken-in! Just look at the seats & the rest of the interior. The tires are LIKE NEW with lots of tread plus it includes the spare tire. It has been upgraded with a JVC touchscreen stereo that has bluetooth and USB connections. The 06/07 6.0 Powerstroke diesels have all the upgraded parts that earlier ones don't get like a revised high pressure oil pump, stand pipes, etc. We wouldn't hesitate to get in this truck and drive it ANYWHERE. Our mechanic has gone over everything to make sure it works properly. It has also had the radiator replaced as well as the alternator and FICM no worries there either. This hard working heavyweight can be found on just about every job site in America. But the hardest work a truck like this does is keeping up with the competition. It’s a tough task in a tough market segment. So let’s see if the 2006 Super Duty is still up to the job. Now the folks at Ford know a thing or two about building tough trucks. And they know it takes a lot of effort to keep ahead of the pack. So they set about making the 2005 F-Series Super Duty the strongest full-size pickup in the world. That requires a lot of new parts, over a thousand in fact. So, while the new Super Duty may not qualify as all-new, it comes mighty close. They started by building the Super Duty on a new frame with thicker steel, and full boxed front sections. Four-wheel-drive models ditch the front leaf springs for a new independent single-beam coil-spring suspension design, while all rear suspensions get new springs and staggered shock geometry, plus a gross axle weight rating of 9,000 pounds. That’s a 750 pound improvement. The new steering geometry and valving for 4x4s yields an improved feel. Down on the deck, 17-inch wheels are standard on our F-250, with 18-inchers optional. Want bigger wheels? Well, the new edition Harley Davidson Super Duty gets big 20-inch alloys to complement all those Harley logos and the available custom flame paint job. Back again is the super luxurious King Ranch model for those that want to tow in the lap of luxury. Motivating the 2006 Super Duty is Ford’s proven 5.4-liter single-cam Triton V8. This year it makes 300 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. That’s a boost of 40-horsepower and 15 pound-feet thanks to 3-valve head technology borrowed from the F-150. Tack on two more cylinders, and about 1.4 liters, and you get the optional 30-valve 6.8-liter Triton V10. It makes a class-leading 355 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque, an improvement of 45 horses and 30 pound-feet. But if there’s serious towing to be done, then our test truck’s 6.0-liter turbocharged Power Stroke diesel V8 is certainly the way to go. This pushrod powerhouse makes 325 horsepower and 570 pound-feet of torque at only 2,000 rpm. It’s the most popular engine in the Super Duty lineup. The Super Duty’s 5-speed TorqShift automatic with an improved tow-haul mode is now available on all engines. Tow-Haul is part of a new Tow Command Package that includes telescoping mirrors, bigger brakes, and the first factory-installed, integrated trailer-brake controller. Its logic works with the Super Duty’s standard anti-lock brakes for better stability in emergency braking. That’s a lot of brains and brawn, all reflected in the Super Duty’s new styling drawn directly from the 2002 Mighty Tonka concept truck. It’s as tough and bold looking as a pickup truck can get. And when decked out with lots of chrome, says ‘‘Here comes a full-size Ford truck!’’ in a loud, clear voice. Wheelbase ranges from 137-inches to 172.4-inches. Regular, Super Cab and Crew Cab bodies are available, with either a 6-foot-10-inch or 8-foot bed. With its big diesel running strong, our test Super Duty hits 60 miles-per-hour in 10.1 seconds. The quarter mile hauls by in 17.7 seconds at 82 miles-per-hour. Like all diesels, the Super Duty is strong off the line. But the power seems to get a second wind at about 3,000 rpm as the turbo reaches full boost. And boy can this baby haul! With best in class towing abilities, our 4-wheel-drive F-250 has a conventional rating of 12,500 pounds, and 17,000 pounds with a fifth wheel. Handling-wise, the Super Duty feels like a 3-ton truck. There is lots of front plow entering corners, but the new suspension and revised geometry makes the steering more precise while reducing the turning diameter. It still could us a bit more feel, though. Body roll is moderate, thanks to the stiff, heavy duty springs. With 4-wheel ABS disc brakes, stops from 60 averaged 152 feet. A long stop, but it’s a lot of truck, one that’s quite stable under braking, with good pedal feel. In daily driving, the feel is firm. The Super Duty has a stiff, work truck ride, but very good noise and vibration control. And if you opt for our test truck’s Lariat trim package, enough comfort and convenience features to keep your hard working crew happy. The huge cabin has also been redone. The dash is less work truck than before. Our Lariat had extra-wide captain’s chairs with standard leather upholstery. The Crew Cab’s rear seat is a plus-size folding bench with a flip-out steel cargo floor, a handy feature for work or family. But your family will need a lot of groceries to meet our short-box model’s 2,700 pound cargo capacity. But you won’t need as many dollars as you might think for an F-250 Super Duty. There are no other 6.0 issues either it starts right up hot or cold and runs perfect. The injector control module was replaced 20k miles ago as well. With only 220k miles, this truck is barely broken-in! Just look at the seats & the rest of the interior. The tires are LIKE NEW with lots of tread plus it includes the spare tire. The 06/07 diesels have all the upgraded parts that earlier ones don't get like a revised high pressure oil pump, stand pipes, etc. We wouldn't hesitate to get in this truck and drive it ANYWHERE. This hard working heavyweight can be found on just about every job site in America. But the hardest work a truck like this does is keeping up with the competition. It’s a tough task in a tough market segment. So let’s see if the 2006 Super Duty is still up to the job. Now the folks at Ford know a thing or two about building tough trucks. And they know it takes a lot of effort to keep ahead of the pack. So they set about making the 2005 F-Series Super Duty the strongest full-size pickup in the world. That requires a lot of new parts, over a thousand in fact. So, while the new Super Duty may not qualify as all-new, it comes mighty close. They started by building the Super Duty on a new frame with thicker steel, and full boxed front sections. Four-wheel-drive models ditch the front leaf springs for a new independent single-beam coil-spring suspension design, while all rear suspensions get new springs and staggered shock geometry, plus a gross axle weight rating of 9,000 pounds. That’s a 750 pound improvement. The new steering geometry and valving for 4x4s yields an improved feel. Down on the deck, 17-inch wheels are standard on our F-250, with 18-inchers optional. This year it makes 300 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. That’s a boost of 40-horsepower and 15 pound-feet thanks to 3-valve head technology borrowed from the F-150. Tack on two more cylinders, and about 1.4 liters, and you get the optional 30-valve 6.8-liter Triton V10. But if there’s serious towing to be done, then our test truck’s 6.0-liter turbocharged Power Stroke diesel V8 is certainly the way to go. This pushrod powerhouse makes 325 horsepower and 570 pound-feet of torque at only 2,000 rpm. It’s the most popular engine in the Super Duty lineup. The Super Duty’s 5-speed TorqShift automatic with an improved tow-haul mode is now available on all engines. Tow-Haul is part of a new Tow Command Package that includes telescoping mirrors, bigger brakes, and the first factory-installed, integrated trailer-brake controller. Its logic works with the Super Duty’s standard anti-lock brakes for better stability in emergency braking. That’s a lot of brains and brawn, all reflected in the Super Duty’s new styling drawn directly from the 2002 Mighty Tonka concept truck. It’s as tough and bold looking as a pickup truck can get. The quarter mile hauls by in 17.7 seconds at 82 miles-per-hour. Like all diesels, the Super Duty is strong off the line. But the power seems to get a second wind at about 3,000 rpm as the turbo reaches full boost. And boy can this baby haul! With best in class towing abilities, our 4-wheel-drive F-250 has a conventional rating of 12,500 pounds, and 17,000 pounds with a fifth wheel. Handling-wise, the Super Duty feels like a 3-ton truck. There is lots of front plow entering corners, but the new suspension and revised geometry makes the steering more precise while reducing the turning diameter. It still could us a bit more feel, though. Body roll is moderate, thanks to the stiff, heavy duty springs. With 4-wheel ABS disc brakes, stops from 60 averaged 152 feet. A long stop, but it’s a lot of truck, one that’s quite stable under braking, with good pedal feel. In daily driving, the feel is firm. The Super Duty has a stiff, work truck ride, but very good noise and vibration control. And if you opt for our test truck’s Lariat trim package, enough comfort and convenience features to keep your hard working crew happy. The huge cabin has also been redone. The dash is less work truck than before. Our Lariat had extra-wide captain’s chairs with standard leather upholstery.
