FOR SALE: 1924 Ford Model T C-Cab "Woody" Pickup Truck Older restoration completed over a 6 year period in the early 2000s. The following text are excerpts quoted from an article on THIS SPECIFIC TRUCK in the August 2009 issue of Car Buff News magazine . . . (The late) Gerald Goodman of Grand Blanc, Michigan was a collector of cars, tractors, engines, and related equipment. His dream was to restore a Model T to its original condition. After searching far and wide he received a call, there was one for sale right in Grand Blanc. It was a frame, driveshaft, wheels and an engine, with an orange crate for a seat. Jerry cranked it up and with a big smile on his face, drove it home. After much thought and planning, Jerry decided to build a Model T truck on the rolling chassis. All available parts are genuine 1924 Model T or correct replacements. He decided to hand build an all wooden C-cab and truck bed from a black walnut tree found on his property and milled himself. The top is removable via 3 lag screws on each side. The dashboard is original and the speedometer is a restored original. Maximum speed is about 35mph (not bad for a wooden bodied Model T). Note that this is not a TT truck since it has the "car" 100 inch wheelbase. During 1924 and 1925 Ford offered a metal C-cab variant of the Model T. This vehicle, although a 1924 chassis, was treated by Mr. Goodman much like a 1923 (or earlier) period where all truck or delivery vehicle Model Ts were purchased as factory rolling chassis and custom body work added by the purchaser. The 8 years since the restoration was completed has seen almost 900 miles and the expected amount of minor paint wear and some weathering of the black walnut bodywork. A Pebble Beach winner its not but this is a very solid and rust free Model T. Priced to sell at $11,900 or Best Offer. All reasonable offers will be considered as my wife wants her garage space back! I would keep it myself but a Model T is just too slow for my needs as a summer driver. I couldn't turn down the deal that I got on it but I am honestly looking to flip it for something a bit newer (as in faster). No trades please. I need the cash. The engine build number is 10360869 which dates it to August 1924. The electrical system is all 6Volt which operates quite nicely. Mr. Goodman equipped it with turn signals for added safety. Ignition is via battery as the magneto magnets likely need a "recharge" (you T veterans will understand). This is on my list if I can get to it but can't guarantee magneto operation at this time. The field coil resistance ohms out about right so magnetism is the prime suspect. For the right buyer this is a very solid head turner of a "T" at a good price. I'll answer any questions that I can. Hailing from New Mexico, where it spent most of its early life in the service of the National Forest Service, its the result of a 15-year restoration that has turned it into one of the most attractive Woodies on the market. With superlative highway manners complements of a Columbia 2-speed and that wonderful flathead V8 purr, this is a car that satisfies on every level. You can imagine how expensive the restoration was, given that the wood is all-new, replaced at a cost of $21,000 just for the raw materials! Then there was fitting, finishing, and final assembly, making this car better than new in almost every conceivable way. The lovely sage green paint is a great contrast to the vivid ash and mahogany bodywork, with the steel staying in the background to let the wood do all the talking. The post-war Mercs were pretty darned good-looking cars with restrained styling and a bit more flash than their Ford counterparts, and theyre arguably the best-driving flatheads ever built. The bodywork was refinished to the same standards, with good fit, a wonderful gloss on the fenders, and a vinyl roof insert that looks like new. All the chrome on the car was restored, and there is a lot of it, and the car includes rare accessories like the bumper ends and spare tire cover. The tan leatherette interior still features all three rows of seats, a rather rare find on an old wagon, since early owners often removed the rear bench for additional storage space. All the seats were reupholstered using correct materials and someone did a marvelous job of woodgraining the dashboard, making it almost a match for the mahogany inner door panels. Correct stainless screws, original hardware, and a beautifully re-cast steering wheel make this a very comfortable place to spend some time, like your favorite cabin in the woods. The gauges were restored with bright faces and a very upscale look (this is a Mercury, after all), and theres an AM radio in the dash and a heater underneath, both desirable options in 1947. All four doors fit well, regardless of the weather (ask a woody owner about humidity), and theres a bit of storage space in back with a tailgate whose lights swivel to always face rearward. The 239 cubic inch flathead V8 really needs no introduction, and in this neat little woody it provides a wonderful punch and a great soundtrack. Thanks to the Columbia 2-speed rear end, its an effortless cruiser at modern highway speeds, but still feels quick around town and it doesnt mind carrying a full complement of passengers. The engine is nicely detailed if not 100% correct, but the demerits are quite minor, like the parts store battery. It still uses a correct oil-bath air cleaner, and the radiator hoses are proper reproductions that wont sag. It still runs off of six volts so you get the full experience and no worries about careless workmanship. The 3-speed manual transmission shifts easily and even though Ford was still using buggy springs and rigid axles at both ends, the ride is surprisingly plush with the wagon body on top. The chassis is nicely finished and quite correct and the color-matched steel wheels have shiny hubcaps, trim rings, and fresh whitewall tires. This is a really easy car to fall in love with, combining the romance of the woody with the performance of the Ford flathead. With no stories, its worth every penny of the asking price. Call today! It had been sitting for a few months or so and we put some gas in it and a new battery and it only took 1 or 2 tries to get it started. After that I just had to drive it around some and have been having a ball with it. Like I said it has been sitting for a little while so I would not take it on a cross country trip just yet..;-)The exterior of this car is clean, but the paint is dry and faded and the wood grain done at some point, but is not all rusty or anything it has just been sitting out in the sun, like I show in the video below. Or you can leave it and drive it like it is...;-) It has more room than most people need and even has the 3rd Row Rear Facing Back Seat. So you will have room enough for everone. Or lay the middle seat down and it would also make a great work truck/wagon. There is plent of room for just about anything you would need to haul. Hailing from New Mexico, where it spent most of its early life in the service of the National Forest Service, it's the result of a 15-year restoration that has turned it into one of the most attractive Woodies on the market. With superlative highway manners complements of a Columbia 2-speed and that wonderful flathead V8 purr, this is a car that satisfies on every level. You can imagine how expensive the restoration was, given that the wood is all-new, replaced at a cost of $21,000 just for the raw materials! Then there was fitting, finishing, and final assembly, making this car better than new in almost every conceivable way. The lovely sage green paint is a great contrast to the vivid ash and mahogany bodywork, with the steel staying in the background to let the wood do all the talking. The post-war Mercs were pretty darned good-looking cars with restrained styling and a bit more flash than their Ford counterparts, and they're arguably the best-driving flatheads ever built. The bodywork was refinished to the same standards, with good fit, a wonderful gloss on the fenders, and a vinyl roof insert that looks like new. All the chrome on the car was restored, and there is a lot of it, and the car includes rare accessories like the bumper ends and spare tire cover. The tan leatherette interior still features all three rows of seats, a rather rare find on an old wagon, since early owners often removed the rear bench for additional storage space. All the seats were reupholstered using correct materials and someone did a marvelous job of woodgraining the dashboard, making it almost a match for the mahogany inner door panels. Correct stainless screws, original hardware, and a beautifully re-cast steering wheel make this a very comfortable place to spend some time, like your favorite cabin in the woods. The gauges were restored with bright faces and a very upscale look (this is a Mercury, after all), and there's an AM radio in the dash and a heater underneath, both desirable options in 1947. All four doors fit well, regardless of the weather (ask a woody owner about humidity), and there's a bit of storage space in back with a tailgate whose lights swivel to always face rearward. The 239 cubic inch flathead V8 really needs no introduction, and in this neat little woody it provides a wonderful punch and a great soundtrack. Thanks to the Columbia 2-speed rear end, it's an effortless cruiser at modern highway speeds, but still feels quick around town and it doesn't mind carrying a full complement of passengers. The engine is nicely detailed if not 100% correct, but the demerits are quite minor, like the parts store battery. It still uses a correct oil-bath air cleaner, and the radiator hoses are proper reproductions that won't sag. It still runs off of six volts so you get the full experience and no worries about careless workmanship. The 3-speed manual transmission shifts easily and even though Ford was still using buggy springs and rigid axles at both ends, the ride is surprisingly plush with the wagon body on top. The chassis is nicely finished and quite correct and the color-matched steel wheels have shiny hubcaps, trim rings, and fresh whitewall tires. This is a really easy car to fall in love with, combining the romance of the woody with the performance of the Ford flathead. With no stories, it's worth every penny of the asking price.
