Little Bit of History Introduced in March 1954, the 220a was a more luxurious and up-scale version of the W120 model 180 with a wheelbase stretched by 170 mm (6.7 in). 100 mm (3.9 in) of that increase in length was necessary to accommodate the longer straight-6 engine taken from the W187 model 220, that in this application delivered 85 PS (63 kW; 84 hp) fed by a single carburettor. The passenger cabin was also lengthened by 70 mm (2.8 in) to provide an increase in the leg room available to rear seat passengers. From the side these six cylinder cars can readily be distinguished from their shorter four cylinder siblings by the extra "quarter light" windows incorporated in each of the rear doors. 220a production ended in April, 1956 with 25,937 units produced. If interested I can list the other cars -- I am trying to get down to a more manageable excess of VINTAGE MERCEDES - The warehouses I have rented for over 20 years are being sold - the owner for the last 20 years has gone out of his way to help me with unloading cars - helping me with outside storage at no additional costs etc - I was his first renter and he never raised my rent in over 20 years ! So it was better to just buy the car as well . It was filled with 190sl , 300 Adenauer , 220s etc parts -- in fact it still has a 280sl engine short block in the trunk !!! We will remove it of course as it is not included in the sale - just the car as is as shown. We will install stock wheels for the AUDI ones shown . I was told this car ran and drove but never even attempted to start it . I can hook a battery up to it and test it out sometime soon . The interior seats look to have been redone at some time - they are brown and in nice shape - the dash is nice - good wood etc as well . -- I think I have the title for it as well . 1960 Mercedes 220SE Cabriolet The 220SE was produced from only October 1958 to November 1960 with only 1,112 cabriolets built for the three model years. In 1958, Mercedes updated their 220 S when the 2.2-liter engine was fitted with Bosch fuel-injection and produced 137 BHP. Internally, the injection cabriolets were known by bodycode W128 with the engine code M127.983. The impressive 220 Cabriolet was produced by the Sindelfingen factory. Even more impressive than their styling and engineering was their price tag, which was a staggering $9,000 making it one of the most expensive cars of their era. The Mercedes-Benz W128 was a 6-cylinder automobile that was available in sedan, coupé, or cabriolet body styles and produced from October, 1958 to August, 1959 (Cabriolet A/C and Coupé to November, 1960). Its main model, the 220SE, was the last of the"Ponton" series which had design roots and styling cues beginning in 1953 with the Mercedes-Benz 180 sedan (W120 chassis). The 220SE featured a unitized body/frame construction and fully independent suspension. This car is out of an estate and has been in the same family for over 35 years put away in the garage with a cover over it. This is a very clean rust free car and all the panel gaps look like the day the car was built in 1963. A little TLC and you would have a very nice show car or keep as is and have fun driving the car with the top down. The drivetrain in in good shape and has had a full tune up and all fluids changed before it was started and we are going to have the brakes gone over also (parts are on order from Mercedes) and is ready to drive for the summer. The body and paint are in good shape for a car that is 50 years old with no rust and no one dent in the body panels, Paint still shows nice but would look better with a redo on the paint as there are some chips and scratches on the car. The inside is still very stock with all the wood trim & Leather this 1963 Mercedes look better than most new Mercedes interiors. Still has the stock AM/FM radio, Steering wheel, Leather top boot (the Leather is very dry and will not fit on the car), jack, and some new window trim in the trunk. We got two sets of keys for the car and some other OEM parts that will go with the car that are all in the truck also. The White soft top is in good shape with only some light stains on the front of the top, the rear window is still very nice and the top gos up and down without a problem. This Mercedes-Benz 220SE is chassis number 111023-12-035327 and has a free and clear Colorado Title car shows 95,674 miles but will be sold Exempt on miles for age.
