Built June 26th, 1968 this Shelby is a substantial, rare and very documented car in many publications going back to the 80s as it sits exactly today. Original miles, original body and interior, Numbers match everywhere. This car received a comprehensive refinish done in the 80s by its 2nd owner, Chuck Brown in CA documented not only in photos, but many publications of that era.. This was never a left for dead or done for profit car. It was not a torn up neglected car or just a VIN used to cash in. This is not a "just restored car" It was, always was and still is a very nice mid #1 level example that has been loved all of its life. I wont quote production #s on KR Convertibles as that is redundant if you know these cars, but of course will mention the fact that Factory AC on and GT500KR is a needle in the haystack and really is what puts this car over the top as a rare collector. In the 80s when 2nd owner Chuck Brown decided to take this car up a notch, he was not thinking of how Marti and all of the other things people base these cars this minute on were going to play out about 30 years later. He was thinking of quality vs just a surface face that will pass muster at a now common auction. The very comprehensive refinish is now over 30 years old. Looking as good as it does today is rare to see on a car refreshed so many years ago. Again, this is not a restoration... Of course those terms 'patina" and "settling in nicely' coined by those auctions do come to play, but the car is really exceptional and shows better now as it did when all of these magazines had it featured. Every number and code are matching, original and authentic on this car as inspected by noted appraisers and Kevin Marti... Then later in its life, Carol himself. The 3rd Owner was Carol's friend/neighbor here in Texas. Carol was instrumental in finding/recommending this car for Mr Wise, a very wealthy entrepreneur that had a money no object stance with anything he did. Ironically the car was never "signed" by Carol as it was not deemed necessary in that circle. Many years prior to Carol's death, the 3rd owner of this car, Mr. Wise, passed away leaving this car to sit well protected for over another decade. Now what is is not correct on this car is the color or the fact the wheel centers are outlined in red. It is a Code R Highland Green car. In the 80s, Chuck Brown took the attitude that I agree with, "they are only original once' and this car cannot ever make that claim again even if the only thing done was paint a fender.. In this world of originality it does get that ridiculous, but I dont make the rules. Chuck elected to take what is considered by many as not a great color and changed it correctly as any color change ever done to Red. Purists may poopoo that to death that have not yet completed their restoration that may or may not ever get done, but it is what it is and the car is WAY too nice to go and color change to match the tag up and take away much of its noted attraction and history that it has under its belt. The car has been red for way longer than it has been green! The outlined red wheels are as you see in the 80s publications. I leave them that way as the documentation trail stays in tact. Think of this.... It was never in a magazine or won shows as a green car... so take it for what you will. This car received tip marks at SAAC in 1988 exactly as you see it now with no refreshment. It is also said to have been at SAAC 3 and 9 but I have not seen any photos of it there. Hoping someone may have one that turns up. This is a CA car, so it went to many of the SAAC early events. This is one of the nicest and highest integrity 60s cars I have seen, owned or been associated with to date. Far from a muscle car dealer slap together and not far off from the best day one original that has survived as best as all the love in the world could give it.More below after photos.For sale to the collector that wants a car that can show/drive that comes with authentication, history, prevalence and more. During the course of his ownership, Bob Hindson Racing and AutoDino have been the primary care takers of this Cobra. Over the last five years, over 8k dollars has been spent on regular maintenance. The Cobra does have a convertible top. The interior of the Cobra is in excellent shape. The bucket seats, the dash pad, instrument panel, shifter, all of its is in excellent condition. This stang was built by a Shelby builder. This car has been owned by the same person for the last 20 years and is one really nice mustang. In the paragraphs to follow we will give a brief description of the exterior, interior, and driveline of the Ford. We will start off with the exterior of the Mustang. The body is solid and very straight. The fit of the panels is as good as any. It has the GT Hood with proper scoop and striped. The bumpers were changed at the time of the resto as well as some of the Chrome. It has new weather stripping and the glass looks very good. The paint on this car is slick and is covered in the RED with the White Stripes that are up the hood, and down the trunk as well as the GT 350 side stripes. It has the proper mirror on the driver door. This car has slick paint that has a very good shine. It’s sitting on a set of ’65 Shelby R wheels. Next, we will take a look at the interior of the Shelby. On the inside it’s all done mostly in red and done like a ’66 Shelby with Bucket Seats. The back seat has remained within the car. In the paragraphs to follow we will give a brief description of the exterior, interior, and driveline of the Ford. We will start off with the exterior of the Mustang. The body is solid and very straight. The fit of the panels is as good as any. It has the GT Hood with proper scoop and striped. The bumpers were changed at the time of the resto as well as some of the Chrome. It has new weather stripping and the glass looks very good. The paint on this car is slick and is covered in the RED with the White Stripes that are up the hood, and down the trunk as well as the GT 350 side stripes. It has the proper mirror on the driver door. This car has slick paint that has a very good shine. It’s sitting on a set of ’65 Shelby R wheels. Next, we will take a look at the interior of the Shelby. On the inside it’s all done mostly in red and done like a ’66 Shelby with Bucket Seats. The back seat has remained within the car. When you look at the dash it has the better looking gauge package. The shifter looks stock with its automatic mated transmission. Next, we will take a look at the Engine bay of this Ford. Under the hood we have the 289 V8 Ford Engine with a New 4 barrel carburator aluminum intake. The Engine runs out very strong and starts easily enough, The engine bay has been given much to detail with many polished and chromed parts added or updated. What is a Terlingua Mustang? (as told by Bill Neale) In the Beginning… The Terlingua logo is black and yellow, with a rabbit holding its paw in the air. How it came together is quite a story. The whole thing actually got started when a group including Carroll Shelby, Dave Witts, Tom Tierney, David E Davis, Jr. and myself (Bill Neale) would go down to Terlingua to hang out, hunt deer, ride motorcycles, have some drinks and eat real well. We did this two or three times a year. Tom Tierney came to me and said “Bill, wouldn’t it be nice if you designed a Terlingua Ranch logo?” Tierney was a public relations man who worked with Ford Motor Company. We met early one morning for breakfast at the Rafter’s Club on Northwest Highway in Dallas. The first logo was drawn on a paper napkin, and we chose the colors, which were to be yellow and black. Tom is the man responsible for really promoting the first Terlingua chili cook off in 1967. At that time, the logo consisted only of the rabbit, the sun and the three feathers. The Terlingua Ranch logo has this rabbit which looks like what you would see on a European coat of arms. Originally I sketched some ideas using various other critters that lived in the area around Terlingua and the Rio Grande River. Among the other critters that I tried on the first design was a buzzard, which was pretty neat. But then I thought, the jackrabbit is really more of a Texas critter…and the design just naturally developed. His ears have a classic look and he has fur up around his neck. Many people wonder why he’s holding up his right foot, but the reason is simple. He’s saying, “No more peppers in my chili please!!!” The three feathers underneath the rabbit represent the three Indian tribes that populated the area prior to the days when cinnabar ore was mined to produce mercury. The three Indian tribes were the Kiowa, Apache, and Comanche. The tribes gathered in an area around the only source of water, now called Terlingua Creek, and while living together they developed one language. The name of the region comes from these three languages or “Tres Lingues”, later adapted as “Terlingua”. Also on the logo is the sun, which I included primarily because it is so bloomin’ hot down there! Midday temperatures of 110º-115º are typical. I picked the color yellow because it just seemed appropriate for that area. In the upper left hand corner there is the date 1860. In the mid 1800’s, mercury or “quicksilver” mining made Terlingua a boom town. 1860 was the date of the first race ever held in the Terlingua area. That first race was between two mercury (ore) wagons pulled by 6 mules each and it was held on the road which is now the center of Terlingua. When I told that to Shelby he said, “Neale, that’s a hell of a story. Where did you find it? What book was it in?” And I said, “Shelby, I didn’t read that in a book. I made it up!” The Terlingua Racing Team is Born! After the Terlingua Ranch logo was created in the mid-1960’s, Shelby said, “You know, it would be kinda neat to use this as a racing team logo too! If you will figure out how to do it, we’ll use it on some of the GT350-R models I’m developing.” Shelby brought the first car to Green Valley Raceway near Dallas on February 14, 1965. Ken Miles drove the car, designated 5R002. It was white with blue stripes and the first “R” model Shelby Mustang ever to race. I said, “Shelby why don’t we put our first Terlingua logo on there?” The logo by now had “Terlingua Racing Team” on it and he said “let’s do it!” That car won the race that day and has been documented in a lot of magazines, various books and so on. The Terlingua Racing Team logo was later used on the 1967 Jerry Titus car, which raced in the Trans-Am series. This is one of the original cars Shelby asked me (Bill Neale) to design graphics for. He said, “Let’s use a color that will make it different and show up real well on the Trans-Am grid.” I immediately thought of the Terlingua yellow and black. It made the Terlingua Racing Team one of the more popular logos of the day. Hey, What Are You Sticking On My Car??? Now many people have asked, “How did you manage to get all that publicity for such a mark?” It is really fun to see all the various places where the Terlingua Racing Team logo has appeared. We have seen cars at Le Mans with the logo and we have no idea how they got the decal. The logo has also been on some cars Shelby campaigned in Europe…some of which were sponsored by Ford Motor Company, so we had to be very careful where we put those logos. The Terlingua Racing Team logo has also appeared on airplanes, boats, and someone even sent a picture of a camel in India with the logo on the chair where riders sit. Once I walked in to a men’s restroom in Geneva, Switzerland, and the gentleman that hands you the towel had a little desk there. On a bulletin board above his desk, there was a Terlingua Racing Team logo! Of all the fun we had putting it on various things, none can hold a candle to the time Shelby and I were walking down the starting grid prior to the 1966 Indy 500. When no one was looking, we very carefully applied Terlingua Racing Team decals wherever we could on the race cars, mixed in among the decals representing companies that had spent a lot of money for that privilege. We thought we had made it to the end of the line, putting at least one of TRT decals on each car and felt kind of smug and proud of ourselves. But as we were heading to our seats we realized we had missed one car, and of course, that was the car that won the race! You know, that little logo has really created a lot of good times, and a lot of fun, for a lot of people. Chili­ Heads, Hollywood Stars, Race Car Drivers, Monks and Politicians Shortly after the TRT logo was created, the first chili cook-off was held in 1967 and TRT logo was used extensively there. That event also lead to the development of “official” positions in the fictitious Terlingua City Council, or as it was commonly known, the “Terlingua Municipal Board”. We came up with lots of positions and titles that involved some really famous people from that time. The Terlingua Municipal Board initially started with David Witts, Carroll Shelby, Wick Fowler and me (Bill Neale). Wick Fowler had created a chili mix called “Two Alarm Chili” still available in stores today. Soon afterwards we added more titles and more Board members: Well that’s the story, and most of it’s true. As for the Terlingua Racing Team logo, heck it’s been everywhere ­and who knows where you’ll see it next! How did the modern Terlingua Come to Be? Carroll Shelby and Ford had a long history where they were often at odds. The 2005 Mustang was a throwback to the original Mustangs and Shelby once again became involved with the Mustang and Ford Motor Company. The CS6 and CS8 were cars that many will describe at the precursor for the Terlingua Mustang. 2006 was when the first Terlinguas were being designed and 2007 through 2009 the Terlingua mustang was sold as an add on package – post title through the Las Vegas Shelby plant. The number sold is in question but somewhere around 39 cars were built and the sales abruptly stopped in late 2009 and production was complete somewhere around early 2010 – all of this is a little fuzzy and the reason for the program to stop is held tight to the vest by the Shelby folks.

You know the old line about black being the hardest color to perfect? It's true, and the guys who built this car went the extra mile to make sure there were no disappointments. With PPG black paint and those icy blue stripes, there's no disguising the Cobra shape, but this one takes on an altogether more menacing persona than many of its siblings. Factory Five's fiberglass is better than most, so the car fits together quite well and with just a bit of prep, ends up looking like a million bucks. All the original Cobra design cues are there, from the jacking stubs to the side pipes to twin roll bars for driver and passenger, proving once again that no car has survived the passage of history better than the Cobra. This is not a purist's car, of course, but if you want an awesome-looking snake that moves even better than it looks, this is your car. I'm guessing the intent was to build a car that is as happy on the track as on the street, and the competition-grade bucket seats seem to bear this out. Fitted with Simpson harnesses for both driver and passenger, you feel bolted directly to the car and can feel every move it makes in the seat of your pants. Black carpets help with heat control, but it's very bare-bones in the best sense of the word inside. A stylish dashboard houses modern Auto Meter Ultra Lite gauges and while the wheel has a traditional Cobra logo, the fat leather-wrapped rim is purely to help you hold on tight. A billet shifter manages five gears instead of four, and it's nice to see authentic little details like the leather check straps on the doors and simple latch hardware. A Sony AM/FM/CD stereo system was cleverly hidden in the trunk, along with the Optima battery and for a sporting car, the fully finished cargo bay is a nice touch. While a heavy 427 scores cool points, if you're going to actually drive your Cobra an injected 5.0 is going to deliver more fun per cubic inch. Decked out with all the latest and greatest 5.0 upgrades, from the polished intake to the GT40 aluminum heads, this stout small block grunts out a very impressive 360 horsepower. And thanks to the wonders of the Performance Products fuel injection, it starts instantly and runs like a scalded cat regardless of ambient conditions. Cobra valve covers add a nostalgic touch, and if you've been under the hood of a 5.0 Mustang, you'll feel right at home here. Backed by a 5-speed gearbox and 8.8-inch rear, it has a gear for every occasion, from pulling a hole-shot to cruising on the highway. The tubular frame is very nicely finished, and with rack-and-pinion steering, 4-wheel Wilwood disc brakes, and a set of coil-over shocks up front, handling is far sharper than anything with a big block could be. Gorgeous 17-ich Cobra R wheels look great and carry 235/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rear BFGoodrich radials.
