Reluctantly selling my time capsule survivor 1986 Chrysler LeBaron GTS 2.2L Turbo EFI baby. I have used this car as an every day driver for the last 2 1/2 years. It is the most dependable, reliable car I have ever owned. She has a clear title and current State of Connecticut registration. Whatever she needs, she gets, no questions asked and only Mopar parts if available. She has been serviced only at my local Dodge dealer by a master mechanic who worked on all of these turbo cars when they were new in the 1980's. This car was originally owned by an elderly woman in New Jersey, who also only serviced the car at her local dealership. She traded it in because it needed a head gasket job, the dealer performed the work at around 80K and it was wholesaled out to a dealer in Pennsylvania who is a fellow Mopar enthusiast. This dealer brought the car to the 2013 Chryslers at Carlisle event where I purchased it from under the survivor car tent. The car is Golden Bronze Pearl with Saddle interior. It has never been in an accident and has always been garaged. The car is loaded and has power everything, including air conditioning, it is a literal time capsule that looks, runs and drives like new. I will drive this car anywhere and have taken it on trips for hundreds of miles. I would drive this car clear across the USA without any worry. Fly in and drive it home. The GTS was the top of the line LeBaron model for 1986 and this one has every available extra cost option, including 15" alloy wheels, pinstripe package and digital dashboard. The exhaust downpipe is still wrapped in the factory foil covering! After buying the car, I had it gone through top to bottom and since I have owned it, I have had the following replaced either due to wear or for preventative maintenance: hoses, belts, cap, wires, plugs, coil, tires, radiator, power steering pump, front & rear brakes, front rotors, front axles, bearings and seals, wiper motor, front struts, rear shocks, K&N air filter, rebuilt transmission, power steering pump, pressure hose, fuel filter and more that I can't think of right now. I have a folder full of thousands of dollars of receipts that goes to the new owner. The interior of the car is near new, the seats are perfect, no rips, tears and no wear! I have the original Chrysler window sticker from when the car was new. There is also zero paint fade, the original paint is in mint condition and shines bright thanks to being garaged it's whole life and regular waxings. The car also has a factory front license plate bracket so no worries registering in a state that requires both front and rear plates like mine. The original window and door rubber are soft and supple and there are zero water leaks, even in the heaviest of rains. This car is a once-in-a-lifetime find and is likely the best surviving example that will ever be found. Whenever someone rides in the backseat, they say it feels like they are sitting on a couch, it's so comfortable. Even the headliner does not sag. The body is in excellent condition and has never been in an accident. The car was rustproofed by Rust Miser when new. Incredibly, there are only two areas that should be fixed, on each side of the rear lower rocker panels where rust is starting to come through, one side had been repaired before. This is the only area of concern on the whole car and will be an easy fix. After 27 years, the paint is going to show the usual superficial parking lot scratches and dings. No matter how careful you are and how far away you park, someone will always park a foot away from you. Other than that, there are two small dings on the hatchback right near the rear wiper where it looks as if something dropped on the hatch. The 2.2L Turbo runs like a terror and is a blast to drive. I only use Mobil 1 and also a Zinc ZDDP oil additive. I put in a newer Chrysler CD Stereo with premium hi power sound speakers. The car just turned 99,000 miles. The car turns heads everywhere I go and it will be sad to see her go. I used to take a train to work and this car only drove a couple miles a day to the train station and back. I don't work there anymore, so would rather put miles on a car that's not collectible. This is the only reason why the car is now for sale. I will gladly answer any questions or send you more photos. Only 16,400 miles! Drives like it was new. The Mark Cross interior is impeccable and very clean with no rips, tears, or stains in the upholstery. I bought the Chrysler from the son of the original owner. I also have the velvet finish owner's manual and other paperwork that came with the car when purchased. My mechanic told me he believes it's the original mileage considering the overall mechanical and cosmetic condition. I've had a few of these Imperials, this is the first one that had the pushbutton transmission operate like it should, it's a pleasure. All the body panels line up perfectly and the doors, hood and trunk open and close easily.Cosmetic: The Imperial was painted about 5 years ago, it's got a nice deep shine, no bodywork necessary anywhere. Interior was entirely redone by an upholstery shop that specializes in classics; all original patterns and materials were used. Everything was done; leather, vinyl, carpet, armrests, door panels, visors, headliner, etc. The leather seats look amazing, they're supple and comfortable. The door panels and rear panels are gorgeous, complete with the pop up door armrests for storage. The chrome bumpers and brightwork are in great shape, no dents, scratches, pitting or fading, they shine brilliantly. The factory rustproofing they gave these cars was very effective, the body is solid throughout as you can see from the pix of the trunk floor. When you look at, get into and drive this car it's clear that's she's always been treated with love and has spent her life as a "Garage Queen". She's roadworthy, all directional/brake/turn signal/headlights work. Engine always starts easily, even after sitting for a month or two. Cruises nicely on the highway, holds the road perfectly, 413 V8 moves this big girl easily up the highway with LOTS of power. The Chrysler tracks straight as an arrow and brakes evenly, idles perfectly and the suspension is luxurious. She is almost spotless underneath; floors and trunk completely solid, body never patched. No leaks, garage floor always dry when I take her out. Overall, it drives like an American classic luxury car should. 1985 Chrysler LeBaron convertible, Mark Cross edition. You'll love this car! A real nice looking car that I'm currently using as an everyday driver. Truly an undervalued current special interest car and future classic. Enthusiast interest on these cars that "Saved Chrysler" in the '80s is growing, and there is extensive club support online, as well as easy availability of parts. The car is mechanically and cosmetically excellent, and was previously owned by a Chrysler mechanic who fixed it up for his wife. He did an especially nice job on making the body look good. Body panels all fit right, and the paint job is professional and looks excellent- the factory color is Cream, a pale yellow. After that it was driven by a NY Times best selling author as his summer car in Maine. The leather interior is solid, with the wear and one cut /tear in the drivers seat pictured. Since it's original, and originality is important, I live with it. Most people I've asked at shows think its fine. There is virtually no rust on the car, with an exceptionally clean undercarriage. The chrome and trim is bright and clean, with nice factory correct wire wheel covers. Nice quality factory am/fm/cassette, plays my Ipod nicely with an $11 cassette adapter. I've taken it to cruise nights where it gets lots of attention-you'll even have people stop you on the street to ask about it. Drives and shifts nice. Mechanically, it just passed the stringent Massachusetts safety inspection necessary to register a car. Engine is the more desirable, optional Mitsubishi made 2.6L, and it runs quiet and strong. I replaced the passengers side control arm and ball joint with a new part. It has a new battery. All electrical works- the top goes up and down, and all lights work. Whitewall tires are good, exhaust is newer. A few little things that need to be addressed, but will not prevent you from driving and enjoying the car: The drivers side rear window seems to be off the track, so I have to help it up and down manually, but the motor and switch is working- I just haven't tried to chase it yet. The convertible top looks great from the outside, with no rips, holes, or tears. Top electrics work great, goes up and down nicely. Two things to note- at some point in its life, the inside of the top was allowed to mildew, so it has black stains inside. I've been scrubbing it, and have gotten much of it out, but I need to mention it. The clear plastic window is unattached where it joins the rear body- it does not leak in the car, as it drains down and out through factory drain holes. Again, I have not tried to fix as it works ok. It does have nice condition factory boot cover for when the top is lowered. The a/c works, but when turned on creates a rapid cycling of the idle. I was told by a Chrysler mechanic this is adjustable, but I have not attempted to do so. Being a convertible, I did not worry about the a/c- again, this one is up to the new owner. Even with the above, this is a car you can drive and enjoy everyday and restore as you want. Its nice enough to show at cruise nights as is, truly a "Poor Man's Classic". Compare my price to the few other similar cars for sale and you'll see what a bargain this is. I have a current registration- if a title is important, a Mass. title is in process, but they take a few weeks. I will provide this clear title as soon as I get it if you wish. In answer to the "can I drive it home" question-Yes! I would say you could drive the car any distance. I drive it everyday-but remember, this is a 30 year old car, and may require unforeseen maintenance or items I may have missed. Included is a car cover for those of you that may not have garage.
