With its Thunderbird V8, Ford-O-Matic 3-speed, Master Guide Power Steering and Select Aire climate control, it has all the right options to be the quintessential 50s cruiser. And if you're looking to add a little spice to your weekend routine, it'll take Sunday drives to a whole new level! Steal a glance at the car's glossy profile and you'll see what high quality craftsmanship truly looks like. A product of a professional, rotisserie restoration that was performed by a dedicated group of enthusiasts, its solid body was stripped to bare metal, thoroughly worked and painstakingly transformed into a collection of super straight panels. Once that intense labor resulted in good fit and finish, a smooth Dresden and Starmist Blue basecoat was sealed in durable clearcoat and buffed to a fantastic shine. And today, this Ford sits as one razor-sharp drop-top that's ready to turn heads for years to come. Not surprisingly, this exceptionally clean Fairlane's stylish body features a roster of cool and carefully maintained details. At the front of the car, an exaggerated egg-crate grille hangs clean headlights above simple parking lamps, a linear header emblem and a guarded bumper that bends around peaked fenders. Between those fenders, a chrome-detailed hood leads the eye to wraparound glass that's reflected by twin spot lights, cleared with bright wipers and framed in thick trim. Below that trim, sculpted door handles, subtle fender skirts and polished rocker guards perfectly complement streamlined side sweeps, expressive "Fairlane 500" scripts and small Select Aire emblems. Above those emblems, a blue vinyl roof folds in front of a centered decklid antenna. And behind that antenna, an intricate Fairlane badge rides inside chrome-trimmed, jet-inspired tail lights, a second wraparound bumper and classy chrome exhaust tips. Tilt the car's sculpted hood and you'll find a correct, 312 cubic inch Thunderbird V8 that's fully rebuilt and dressed to impress. Introduced in 1956 as a high-end Ford and Mercury staple, this stout Y-block remained one of Dearborn's hottest factory options until late 1961. At the top of the bright orange mill, an Argent Silver air cleaner draws wind into big 4-barrel carburetors that are juiced by a series of stainless fuel lines. Atomized octane passes through an aluminum intake manifold to correct, cast iron heads that are topped by polished and Thunderbird-branded valve covers. At the front of those valve covers, a rebuilt generator and correct fan spin in unison as a tagged radiator keeps the block cool via pliable hoses. Spark comes courtesy of a traditional points distributor, which sequences fire between a Ford Power Punch battery, a Ford voltage regulator and fresh Ford plug wires. From its factory air conditioning and glossy black fenders to its Ford-branded oil filter, this convertible's bay presents a clean, authentic appearance. And best of all, the 245 horsepower engine fires instantly and sounds surprisingly beefy breathing through an OEM-style exhaust system. At the bottom of this Fairlane, a fully sorted undercarriage houses typically over-restored floors that are bolted to lots of factory-correct components. Nice enough to show but still fully drivable, this is the perfect compromise for enthusiasts who like to display their car AND enjoy fun-filled weekends. Behind the beefy Y-block, a stalwart Ford-O-Matic 3-speed sends power to a familiar Ford 9-inch that's fitted with an open differential and pleasant, 3.10 gears. The car's suspension remains close to its original configuration, with factory power steering and front spring spacers complementing factory control arms and traditional leaf springs. All of the chassis' parts are free of substantial weathering, reinforcing the idea that it's been a very long time since this 500's seen daily-driver duty. Braking is quick and adequate thanks to fresh drums that occupy all for corners of that chassis. And on the outside of those drums, correctly painted wheels spin G78-14 Coker Classic whitewalls around classy chrome hub caps. Two-tone paint is legendary for its characteristically 50s feel. And when paired with this convertible's airy interior, it creates the perfect culmination of style and sophistication. Thanks to the car's high quality restoration, its pleated bench seats will be livable for years to come. There's tight carpet that, thanks to thick floor mats, still features rich black loops. Front and center, a stylish, two-tone dash hangs restored Ford telemetry above a modern Kenwood CD player. At the sides of that dash, gridded door panels center chrome handles, small window switches and clean armrests above flashy, Ford-branded sills. In front of the driver, a body-matched steering wheel spins a Dresden Blue rim around a chrome, Ford-branded horn ring. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk anchors a fresh plaid mat beneath an old school jack and full-size spare. Pairing a 216 cubic inch 6-cylinder with a 3-speed manual transmission and striking Burgundy paint, it's sure to turn heads. BODYWORK/TRIM After World War II, GM rolled out its Advance Design pickups nearly a full year ahead of its revised passenger cars. Why? Well, most agree that, because truck production continued throughout the war, the General's body dies were getting worn and needed replaced. It's a simple answer, and the kind of thinking you'd probably expect behind such a wonderfully uncomplicated machine. Naturally, this 3100's appeal begins on the outside where all-steel lines, memorable enough to inspire the Chevy HHR and SSR, are coated in a fantastic layer of Burgundy 2-stage. That paint, detailed with a Charcoal pinstripe, presents well from any angle, remaining a true testament to rock-solid bodywork that was conducted during the truck's no-holds-barred restoration. And everything adds up to one crisp and clean classic that's been finished to 100% show worthy standards! One of the best attributes of Advance Design pickups is their straightforward ornamentation. Not decorated to the hilt like most '40s and '50s cars, these blue-collar runabouts illustrate how solid design can remain fresh almost 70 years after it was introduced. At the front of this Chevy, a show-quality grille rides between a fresh chrome bumper, clean halogen headlights and a correctly trimmed hood. Behind that hood, a stainless-trimmed windshield leads a smoked greenhouse that's framed in bright, stainless wipers and a small driver's mirror. Beneath that mirror, a polished and bowtie-branded fuel filler floats amid stylized door handles and painted running boards. Between those boards, a spectacular Oak bed is detailed with stainless skid strips and bowtie-branded rail plugs. And beneath those plugs, a "CHEVROLET" branded tailgate reflects sleeved chains, polished tail lamps, a second chrome bumper and polished exhaust pipes. ENGINE Peer in to the truck's body-matched engine bay and you'll find a 216 cubic inch Thriftmaster 6-cylinder that was professionally rebuilt by Greeley Automotive Machine of Greeley, Colorado. Introduced for use in large platforms, and regarded as one of the all-time great Chevrolet powerplants, this "LBA" branded mill is a favorite among vintage GM truck buyers because of its simple design, adequate power and excellent durability. At the top of the block, painted Weber carburetors mix wind, supplied by satin-finish air cleaners, with fuel that's piped through braided lines and high quality XRP fittings. Those carbs ride on a clean Fenton intake, which floats above cast Fenton exhaust manifolds. Opposite those manifolds, a fresh distributor, which sequences fire between MSD Heli-Core Solid Suppression wires and a polished, 12-volt alternator, twists on a tough Comp camshaft. A beefy radiator provides cooling with the help of a large pusher fan and polished cap. And items like a Delco-Remy starter, a silver, "Chevrolet" branded valve cover and a polished oil cap ensure the bright blue powerplant is very impressive to look at. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Crawling under this classy bowtie reveals body-matched floors and a powder-coated frame that have never seen the slightest hint of inclement weather. Power meets the pavement through a traditional Muncie 3-speed, which is tied to a 10-bolt, highway-friendly rear end. Correct leaf springs and big drum brakes occupy all four corners of the chassis, mixing rugged road prowess with firm and solid stops. A polished, dual-pipe exhaust system, which is wired to a polished Patrick's muffler, runs the entire length of the truck. Everything rolls on chrome steel wheels, which turn 245/60R15 Goodyear Eagle STs around "CHEVROLET" branded hubcaps. And details like a silver oil pan, stainless fluid lines, a fresh brake booster, a silver flywheel cover and an Optima gel cell battery round out an impressive restoration. Mixing a massaged small block and modern GM 4-speed with bodywork that'll sit well on any show field, this road-ready warrior is worthy of EVERY Chevrolet fan's full attention. If you're shopping for a clean classic that mixes modern detailing with purposeful simplicity, take a close look at this slick 3100! BODYWORK/TRIM A solid canvas that was ready to reflect some smooth street rod art, this super cool pickup benefitted from a ground-up, nut and bolt build that was designed for the street or the show. In addition to top-notch restoration, the truck's sculpted body was supplemented with custom inner fenders, wider wheel tubs, and a cut, smoothed and filled firewall. With that labor-intensive groundwork laid, a smoothed hood and custom roll pan framed a smoothed tailgate, shaved mirrors and a billet-trimmed Curly Maple bed. That slick fuselage eventually made its way to Washington's Whipple Motorsports for a seamless coat of Deep Black Gloss 2-stage. And, when that wet-looking pigment dried, finishing touches included modern headlights, amber parking lamps, capped wipers, tinted glass and bright LED taillights. ENGINE Toss the hood and you'll find a 358 cubic inch, fuel injected small block that, according to this Chevy's builder, creates healthy 10 to 1 compression. At the top of that polished and painted mill, custom, polished aluminum air tubes feed GM tuned port injection, which is seated between stainless fluid lines and a high quality Lokar throttle linkage. Below that linkage, free-breathing heads hide Comp roller rockers under polished, white-detailed valve covers. Fires get lit by fresh EZ Wiring, which jolts MSD Street Fire plug wires. Cooling comes courtesy of a Griffin aluminum radiator, which rides between a chrome puller fan, a polished expansion tank and a custom-fabricated support cover. Spent gases exit through ceramic-coated shorty headers. A Billet Specialties Tru Trac accessory drive spins an Edelbrock water pump between a polished AC compressor and polished Powermaster alternator. And the truck's glossy, body-matched engine compartment is exceptionally well done, with items like chrome dipsticks, polished hood hinges and a custom-fabricated engine cover rounding out an otherwise impressive build. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Crawling under this old school bowtie reveals a fresh double A-arm/4-link suspension that's been augmented with polyurethane bushings, tubular control arms and adjustable coil-over-shocks. Behind the small block, a 700R4 4-speed bridges the gap between a 10-bolt axle and 2,500 RPM stall converter. That familiar drivetrain pushes heavily undercoated floors on a body-matched chassis. Unisteer electronic power rack-and-pinion steering provides tracking. Quick stops are a cinch thanks to power-assisted, Aerospace Components calipers, which squeeze big drilled and slotted rotors. The aforementioned headers breathe through fabricated, crimp-free pipes, which hang welded, dual-chamber mufflers in front of polished, quad-outlet tips. At the corners of the chassis, polished Coys wheels twist 245/40ZR18 Falken Azenis in front of 315/35R20 Falken Azenis. And everything, from the truck's Milodon oil pan to its relocated fuel tank, is well planned, well executed and ready to work its magic! INTERIOR When you pop this pickup's doors, you'll find a stylish custom cockpit that's laced with plush, ultraleather surfacing. Top dead center, cushy bucket seats appear to be 90s-era GM pieces. In front of those seats, a smoothed dash hangs Classic Instruments Tach-Force gauges above Streamline controls for the truck's Vintage Air climate system. At the base of that dash, a custom console centers modern JBL audio and a short Lokar shifter between switch-operated courtesy lamps and big Directed speakers. Opposite that console, sculpted door panels hang small, billet handles in front of 1-piece power windows. Under those panels, clean carpet frames billet foot pedals and color-keyed JBL kick speakers. Complete with a rebuilt InTech V8, a modern automatic transmission and independent air ride suspension, this stunning Lincoln, err, Ford mixes the best aesthetics of one of Detroit's most storied creations with the mechanical prowess of one of America's greatest luxury coupes. BODYWORK/TRIM Professionally assembled by Charlotte's own Finished Dreams Restoration, and professionally painted by Winston-Salem's The Paint Shop, this Ford's lust-inducing body reflects a picturesque coat of Raven Black 2-stage. From its glossy shine to its chip-free rocker panels, that paint's deep finish is nice enough to be the star at any local cruise night, and certainly nicer than the car's original, factory-applied pigment. Naturally, a star of that caliber requires top notch panel fit, as the folks who bolted this coupe together spent ample time making sure its jet-inspired fuselage maintained excellent cohesion. Modern headlights, Mark VIII door handles and a power moonroof perfectly complement turquoise birds and brilliant trim that was carefully refinished by the pros at Advanced Plating in Nashville, Tennessee. And today, this classic rolls as a stunning tribute to one of the coolest designs to ever fly out of Dearborn, Michigan. ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN Toss the car's chrome-trimmed hood and you'll find a 32-valve dual overhead cam Lincoln InTech V8 that's one of the hottest and most versatile engines Ford ever produced. Stout, solid and highly adaptable, these Teksid aluminum blocks have spent the last two decades powering everything from Mustangs and street rods to Aviators and Panoz roadsters. And not only does the modern gem crank out roughly 300 horsepower, it also features a tidy appearance that, when combined with the car's monochromatic engine bay, literally looks tailor-made. That high tech mill, fully rebuilt back in 2009, sends power to a Mark VIII-spec 4R70W 4-speed automatic transmission. Instead of a simple engine swap, or a pro-touring style adaptation, this '61 T-Bird's body is actually mated to its Lincoln donor chassis as one complete structure. The car's floor and frame are straight Lincoln. That duo is supported by Lincoln's fully independent suspension, which retains the computer-controlled air ride that made the Mark VIII so famous. Power rack-and-pinion steering provides modern turning ability. Pound on the left pedal and power-assisted, 4-wheel disc brakes utilize factory ABS to fulfill a quick stop. INTERIOR One of the central themes of pro-touring is creating cars that, despite their appearance, are much easier to live with than their factory-correct peers.
