So, if you're looking to ascertain a correct, muscle-bound Chevy that's ready to pose, play and tote some big trophies, check out this sublime Super Sport! BODYWORK/TRIM Originally sold at Fred Gledhill Chevrolet in Wilmington, California, this unbeholden ute is a 4-owner gem that, according to its current steward, was a multi-year labor of love. Acquired in 1998, the low-mileage weekender benefitted from a body-off restoration that added an immediate transmission rebuild, a 2004 repaint and a 2006 engine rebuild to its 2015 completion date. Naturally, that professionally massaged drivetrain was complemented with an array of correct componentry. As you can see from our high-resolution photos, that correct 2-stage was accented with traditional Super Sport hood stripes. And today, the car presents as a no apologies classic that's both timeless and cool. Aesthetically, the El Camino never strayed far from the coupe or sedan it was founded on. At the front of this retro crossover, a familiar Chevelle grille hangs a fresh and prominent "SS" emblem between stainless-seated T3s, clean marker lamps and a thick chrome bumper. Above that bumper, an NOS Super Sport hood flows to like-new glass, which is flanked by correct stainless frames and correct stainless drip rails. Beneath those rails, bold fender badging combines with correct wheel trim, traditional door handles and flashy mirrors to add visual detail to the car's smooth profile. And at the back of that profile, a stainless-trimmed bed leads the eye to a black-trimmed tailgate, which hangs correct badging and clean reverse lamps between vivid taillights and a second chrome bumper. ENGINE Although Chevrolet's ferocious LS6 Turbo Jet V8 was conservatively rated at 450 horsepower, it actually punched the dyno somewhere north of 500. Toss this classic's hood and you'll find an original, 454 cubic inch big block that hangs a correct 3963512 casting number between a correct "CRR" assembly stamp and matching partial VIN. At the top of that block, a rare dual-snorkel air cleaner forces oxygen in to an original Holley carburetor and correct Winters intake. Below those cables, correct exhaust manifolds are wired to old school emissions hardware. And at the front of that hardware, GM-branded hoses channel water past a correct fan and rebuilt alternator with the help of a beefy radiator and familiar tower clamps. During the extensive restoration, the big mill was professionally overhauled and decked in glossy Chevy Orange paint. And, from its mirrored valve covers and Delco-topped battery all the way to its fresh brake booster and stainless fluid lines, the monster motor looks right at home in the car's clean, Satin Black engine bay. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Naturally, this A-Body's road-ready chassis has been restored to the same high standards as its slick profile and clean engine compartment. A nice coat of Satin Black paint provides a great foundation for correct inspection marks and factory-accurate details. Behind the stout big block, an original Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed hangs a correct "70 CY" assembly tag opposite a matching partial VIN. That tough transmission twists power to a correct "CRW" stamped 12-bolt, which spins a posi-traction differential around meaty, 4.10 gears. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is a correct F40 Heavy Duty Suspension, which is equipped with stiff springs, a heavy-duty sway bar and correct manual steering. The car's rebuilt power front disc and rear drum brakes are present, accounted for and function exceptionally well. The aforementioned exhaust manifolds dump spent gases in to authentic Gardner pipes. Power meets the pavement via stylish Super Sport wheels and G70-14 Goodyear Polyglas tires. And, in keeping with its raucous 454, much attention has been paid to making sure everything under this Camino is virtually spotless. The car's solid floorpans are coated in thick black paint, which, complete with factory drips, perfectly complements a sturdy Aero Frame X-frame. A proven Strato-Flight Hydra-Matic 4-speed spins a correct GM axle that literally sails the engine through its broad power band. And cooling for that cycle is provided by a positively giant aluminum radiator that's equipped with two electric puller fans and a bright "Challenger R/T" script. Visually, the body-matched bay comes together every bit as well as the outside of the car, with its smoothed firewall and bright red fenders providing a perfect frame for the modern Chrysler V8. Speaking of that V8, its installation is exceptionally well done and certainly looks tidy enough to pass as an OEM package. And, in addition to roughly 475 horsepower, the big mill features a host of first class ancillary components including black cross bracing, braided hoses and a small JJV Customs badge. Take one look under this beefed up E-Body and you'll see that it definitely has the chops to back up its sinister good looks. The smooth-revving engine is hooked to a slick-shifting Tremec TKO 600 5-speed, a custom driveshaft and a familiar Sure Grip rear end that's equipped with 3.55 gears and stout Yukon axles. Not surprisingly, the car's old-school front torsion bar and rear leaf spring suspension has been completely replaced by a beefy XV Level II set up. Naturally, that pavement-ripping suspension is augmented by power rack and pinion steering and a first class XV power brake system that pinches 14 inch slotted rotors via 6-piston calipers and 13 inch slotted rotors via 4-piston calipers. An intimidating engine note comes courtesy of a three inch stainless exhaust system that sends spent gases through an H-pipe crossover to wicked Magnaflow mufflers and pristine stainless tips. And power flows to the ground through a sweet set of custom Budnik wheels which spin 275/35ZR18 BF Goodrich G-Force T/As in front of 295/35ZR18 BF Goodrich G-Force T/As. The car's fully restored floors, which have been thoroughly undercoated, are sprayed in the same Viper Red urethane as its glossy exterior panels and clean inner fenders. And everything from this Challenger's fresh stainless fuel tank to its heavy duty oil pan is fully sorted and ready to hit the curves. Open this Dodge's super straight doors and sit down inside a cockpit where the timeless good looks of American muscle meld seamlessly with tasteful upgrades and modern conveniences. The XV-supplied seats, which were bolted in by Newcastle Auto Upholstery of Newport, Delaware, are firm and feel much more upscale than traditional Mopar hardware. Naturally, yours will have all the cool tricks you've seen on other builds rolled into one awesome package. And it'll feature the perfect stance, a top-notch powerplant, a stylish interior and imaginative paint that lets everyone know you've arrived. The problem is: haven't you been saying this very same thing for the past five years... ten years... has it already been twenty years?! It seems like you're a little long on planning and WAY overdue for some octane-fueled fun. At RK Motors Charlotte, we believe classics are built to be enjoyed, not planned to be enjoyed. And this slick F100 is a complete 'smart buy' that'll fulfill your dreams faster than any custom you've spent years idealizing! BODYWORK/TRIM When the owner of this red-hot Effie began planning a cross-country road trip in a vintage pickup, he had every intention of sourcing a nice, reliable cruiser. And he did just that by purchasing this solid, Seafoam Green Ford. But, as happens with so many of these projects, hobby turned into obsession and minor restoration turned into an opportunity to create something incredible. And eventually, with the intent of taking the truck "to a level that no one else had accomplished", he kicked off a professional, high-dollar transformation. Since beginning its career as a show queen, this squeaky clean Ford has logged only selective road time, keeping its PPG 2-stage virtually flawless. Its custom graphics, which can easily be removed, are timeless and well done. And, naturally, fit and panel alignments remain about as close to perfect as such a thing can be. Since we're talking aesthetics, I'll go ahead and point out notable details resulting from both this Ford's original restoration and two subsequent years of fine-tuning. Up front, an original grille hangs a traditional "V8" emblem and modern tri-bar headlights above a chromed and tucked bumper. Behind that grille, a shaved, forward-tilt hood snugs at like-new glass, which incorporates a sliding window opposite small wipers and an electric cowl vent. At the sides of that hood, original front fenders lead stylish mirrors, traditional door handles, a power antenna and a nostalgic fuel filler. Below those fenders, Ford-branded running boards flow to a lighted Oak bed that's framed in stainless skid strips and a locking Gaylord tonneau. And at the back of the truck, a smoothed tailgate rides between a small, functional rearview camera, aftermarket taillights, and a second chromed and tucked bumper. ENGINE Prior to its aforementioned tuning, this fun loving Ford sported a '70s Lincoln motor. And while that mill certainly provided adequate power, 'adequate' just isn't up to "a level that no one else had accomplished". Tilt the trick hood and you'll find a fresh, 5.0 liter Ford Performance 'mod motor' that twists stout 11 to 1 compression into 420 horsepower and 390 lb./ft. of tire-melting torque! Officially named Coyote, and not far removed from the engine that powers the current Mustang GT, this state-of-the-art rocket features a forged crank, forged rods, hypereutectic pistons and all-aluminum, 4-valve construction. At the top of block, custom, TIG-welded stainless pipes air from remote Spectre filters to an 80mm, single-bore throttle body and tuned, composite intake manifold. At the sides of that intake, "POWERED BY FORD" cam covers bridge the gap between Ford Performance headers and a Mustang GT engine shroud. At the front of that shroud, a Ford serpentine system spins an assortment of smooth ancillaries. And in front of those ancillaries, a polished Artic Chill radiator, which rides between a custom support and large SPAL puller fans, provides plenty of cooling capacity. The svelte powerplant is extremely tidy, with sculpted plastic concealing most of its factory silver casting. And the truck's "V8" branded engine bay is detailed with thoughtful accessories like a Wilwood brake booster, F.A.S.T fuel components, custom inner fenders and an array of stainless hardware. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION As you can probably tell most of the truck's latest freshening, completed by Trophy Ride Customs of Wilmington, North Carolina, involved vastly improved mechanicals. Head bottom-side and you'll find a boxed and powder-coated frame that centers fresh, Satin Black floors on a roster of top-notch components. Behind the Coyote, a Simple Shift Controller utilizes a blue oval-supplied AODE 4-speed to twist a 9-inch axle around friendly, 3.25 gears. That proven drivetrain rolls on polished Heidts control arms, adjustable coil-over-shocks and a polished Heidts rear clip. That modern suspension is augmented with Heidts power rack-and-pinion steering. Braking is equally class, with Hydratech hydraulics controlling standard front discs and inboard rear discs. The aforementioned headers dump spent gases in to 3-inch pipes, which follow Mustang GT mufflers with polished Ford Racing tips. There's a 20-gallon fuel tank that, despite the truck's nostalgic filler, makes good use of a fender-mounted port. Detail items, like an 8-quart oil pan, a diamond plate battery box, a beefy transmission cooler and a Powermaster XS Torque starter, ensure function matches form. And power meets the pavement through painted steel wheels, which twist white walled 215/75R15 BF Goodrich Silvertown Radials around stainless trim rings and polished, "FORD" branded hubcaps. INTERIOR Inside the truck, a custom cockpit sits primed for either open road tripping or parking lot posing. Front and center, a smoothed and body-matched dash frames classy Auto Meter gauges in an engine-turned instrument panel. Opposite that dash, plush RV seats mix modern heaters with adjustable massagers. At the bottom of those seats, premium carpet anchors a small Lokar shifter behind a stylish Lokar accelerator pedal. At the edges of that carpet, electronically locked doors integrate perfectly placed "V8" emblems beneath chrome handles, power-operated windows and custom pulls that we're repurposed from a Mustang luggage rack. Opposite those doors, a 2-tier Escalade console stacks Vintage Air climate control under Kenwood Excelon audio. That audio projects CD, DVD, Navigation, Bluetooth and satellite radio through two JL Audio amps, an 8-inch subwoofer and numerous JL Audio speakers. And the driver stays connected to the road through a tilting Ford column that spins a sweet Billet Specialties banjo-style wheel. And, although it doesn't have coveted documentation or a stack of plastic trophies, it does have a cover feature and an accompanying 6-page spread in Mopar Action magazine. If you're looking for some old school Detroit metal that wraps some of the nastiest muscle your money can buy in one of the best looking packages to ever prowl American streets, this awesome Challenger is just your style! This cool E-Body's complete rotisserie restoration began when its solid convertible body was meticulously stripped, carefully massaged and thoroughly sanded into a smooth, consistent canvas. Once that canvas was prepped, a bright coat of Viper Red urethane was expertly sealed in a thick clearcoat shell. And when that clearcoat cured, it was decked in black war paint and buffed to a thoroughly substantial presence. Take one look down the body of this old-school Dodge and you'll see tough, slab-sided panels that have been straightened and finessed far past anything that rolled out of the factory. Pull the car into the sunlight and its glossy glow accurately reproduces Chrysler's planar, straight lines all the while offering a level of protection that can only be achieved with today's advanced paint technology. Get up close and personal with its finish and all that staring and comparing adds up to one super slick, all-American muscle car which wraps brutal performance in killer good looks! Wearing lines that originated on Chrysler designer Carl Cameron's famous Charger turbine concept, this classic Challenger makes a bold and distinctly Mopar styling statement from virtually every angle. At the front of the car, a tough looking body-width grille hangs a red "R/T" emblem between four pristine headlights, fade-free parking lamps and a mirror-like bumper. At the top of the car, an R/T-specific hood props two small scoops, two pristine "6.1 HEMI" emblems and two trick tie downs in front of like-new glass that's framed by straight stainless trim and a black vinyl top. At the sides of the car, prominent fender lines are complemented by flush-fitting door handles, body-matched sport mirrors, chrome-trimmed marker lights and a quick-fill fuel cap. And at the back of the car, a body-matched valence hangs wide "DODGE" branded tail lights above a second pristine bumper and correct quad exhaust tips. Raise the wide red hood and you'll find a killer 6.1 liter Mopar crate engine that takes this Dodge from 'very appealing' to 'MUST HAVE' almost as fast as it takes its driver from 'confident' to 'scared stiff'. Measuring in at roughly 370 cubic inches, Chrysler's resurrected Hemi uses a revised block, a forged crank, lighter pistons, strengthened connecting rods, new oil jets, variable cam timing and increased flow heads to turn impressive 10.3 to 1 compression into 425 horsepower! At the top of that stout block, a decaled Spectre air cleaner captures wind using two gorgeous tubes that took 50 hours of modification by the pros at JJV Customs in Wilmington, Delaware. That air flows through an XV intake and mixes with fossils supplied by high performance AEM fuel management. That air/fuel mixture explodes in a super clean block that's adorned with traditional "6.1 HEMI" branded rail covers. Remnants of that explosion are forced into XV-supplied long-tube headers that are bolted to a three inch stainless exhaust system. And cooling for that cycle is provided by a positively giant aluminum radiator that's equipped with two electric puller fans and a bright "Challenger R/T" script. Visually, the body-matched bay comes together every bit as well as the outside of the car, with its smoothed firewall and bright red fenders providing a perfect frame for the modern Chrysler V8. Speaking of that V8, its installation is exceptionally well done and certainly looks tidy enough to pass as an OEM package.
