Up for Auction - A Barn Find 1967 912. This was manufactured in 1966 for the 1967 Market. VIN # 458567 . Original color Light Ivory. This was an original 5 gauge Porsche 912. I do have a nice set of original 1966/1967 dated green face gauges that are included in the auction. There is no engine, but there is a nice 901 5 speed gearbox that is included with this auction. The gearbox was removed from a running car years back and has been stored inside since. All of the Vin Plates and punched numbers are correct and in their original unmolested locations. I saved this car and will actually make a good restoration candidate 912 / 911 Hot Rod / 911/912 parts car. It obviously needs a complete new floor pan. A new complete pan is $900, it also needs rear seat bottom tin. Usual rust spots. The front clip, rear clip and tunnel appear to be solid. All suspension points appear to be decent as this car was a tub and last week I bolted the suspension back under it. The coupe top was removed at some point in the cars history.. I did find a donor coupe top that comes fairly close to fitting on this car. Please understand it will need a professional metal worker to fit and finish the roof. Aside from the floor being gone and the rear seat bottoms, the car is fairly solid, especially at suspension / torsion areas, but still a project non the less. Also Included: Both Doors (Drivers & Passengers)Both Chrome Door Window FramesBoth Rear Quarter Glass Windows with TrimGauge Set of what you see in the pic - nice!Pair of original longhood Front Fenders (Left & Right)Original Longhood - rough on top, but bottom is really nice with original texture, - I feel a professional could rework this well.Original Steel Front BumperOriginal Rear License Plate PanelOriginal Rear Bumper - Both Left and Right Side Complete 901 5 speed Gearbox - was in a running car when removedMisc Door mechanisms Front and Rear Turn Signal Buckets.Rear Engine Decklid - Nice Shape!Original Rear Quarter Panels - One perfect, one has a dent that can be professionally corrected.4 Original Porsche Short Wheel Base WheelsGood Gas TankRear GlassFront SeatsHeadlight BucketsShift Assembly E Brake Assembly Significant value in the original bolt on parts here..fenders, gauges, bumpers, hood, decklid, door frames, doors, 901 gear box etc. No Engine, No Title -Being Sold with a bill of sale only. This car did have a clear title, but has been long since lost by the previous owner. I picked salvage title for the sake of transparency since I do not physically have one. You can file for a title for this car if you so wish. Car is located near Portland Oregon. Payment due via Paypal at auction end or cash in person. All of the parts are here at my home with the exception of one of the doors and a few misc parts that I need to pickup from my other location and put with the car. Car rolls freely, but tires do not hold air for long periods of time. I can help with shipping on my end. Please ask any questions before you bid or buy. I am looking for prompt payment and communication please. Happy to take more pics on request with your email, be specific please. PCA Member / 911S Reg / Pelican - Thanks

BagTurbo charged1987 Porsche 944 Turbo - We just bought this car from the long-term second owner, who bought the car from Motorcars Imports out of Bedford, Ohio in 1991 (note the Motorcars decal still in place on the rear valence). He was an ASE Master mechanic and did all maintenance himself. As a result, we do not have a stack of records that is commensurate with cars serviced at a dealer, but the condition of the car speaks for itself. In 2012 he did a full service including water pump and timing belt, and he documented that service with extensive photographs, as well as parts receipts. He even kept all the old parts in a box. This guy truly loved the car, and it's obvious. The car is all original paint as verified with a paintmeter, the ONLY exception being the front bumper and panel between the headlights, which is notorious on the 944 for attracting stone chips. It has never seen salty roads, winter, and probably never seen rain during his ownership, as he was fanatical. This car is very, very original, and is complete with two keys with factory leather pouches, the original option code sticker in the trunk, cargo covers, spare tire, jack, air compressor, complete tool kit and tool roll, and factory manuals with the maintenance book stamped properly. There are only a few minor modifications to the car, all done by the previous owner and noted in photos. He installed Boston Acoustic speakers in the front doors, as well as speakers in the rear trunk, which are easily removable and only impact the trunk mat. Original Blaupunkt Monterey head unit was retained. He also hardwired a radar system that is of course now outdated, but the level of craftsmanship is incredible. He installed mini toggle switches in the driver's air vent, perfectly hidden, and small warning lights in the gauge cluster. The windshield wipers are kind of cool in a ridiculous overkill sort of way - I've never seen double blade wipers before. Not even sure they've been used more than once or twice. The car also has Porsche badges installed on the front fender with adhesive - no holes drilled, and easy to remove should the new owner desire. Condition is excellent inside and out and underneath, as you can see in the photos. There are no cracks in the leather seats or in the dash. There is zero delamination on the rear window. None. The original calipers still have a good finish in the paint and lettering. All glass is original. The windshield could stand to be replaced if the new owner likes - there was a couple small cracks on the passenger side that the owner drilled and filled himself - the fix is proper but it of course doesn't look exceptionally pretty. The paint is very clean with only a few minor flaws that are pretty hard to find. The original stone guards are still on the car and they are cracking but those are a quick fix, readily available from Pelican Parts. The original underhood insulation is also present, and is of course coming apart, but most cars we see have long since had it completely scraped off, because they all do that. Overall, this is a car that stands above the rest in both condition and originality, and will please most any buyer, short of the guy trying to win the Porsche parade. White Exterior / Red Interior VIN: 129041875 2 Doors, Rear Wheel Drive, Coupe, 4 Cylinders, Manual Inventory ID: 041875 Vehicle Description In the car restoration business there are times when you go too far, you take too long and you spend too much money. This car represents one of those times. I bought this car from a kindly older gentleman in Austin, Texas in the Summer of 2014. At the time I bought it, it had a VW engine in it, it had no brakes, it had multiple rust holes in the pan and its tattered black carpeting had been screwed to the floor pan (yes, there were actual screws holding the carpet to the pan ... ugggggghhh). However, being the left handed maniac that I am, I saw no pitfalls - only potential. Magnificent, magnificent potential. Being the adventurous sort (and lacking any semblance of common sense), I bought the car. And, at that precise moment, the "trouble" began. And by "trouble" I mean a car that needed virtually everything replaced. And by everything, I really do mean everything. Starting in late 2014 and continuing up to and until now (about 15 months later), I had the following work performed on this car: Installed a ZERO MILE 912 engine (currently has less than 500 miles - NOT numbers matching); Powder coated all engine tin; New plugs; New plug wires; New distributor cap, points and rotor; New alternator belt; New rear main seal and valve cover gaskets; New oil filter; New motor mounts; Installed new OEM style exhaust; Rebuilt transmission (4 speed); Replaced all transmissions gaskets; Replaced transmission mounts; Installed new clutch, pressure plate and TO bearing; Rebuilt front suspension; Replaced front strut mounts; Rebuilt rear suspension; Performed 4 wheel alignment; Rebuilt rear axles and CV joints; Replaced front strut inserts, Replaced front rubber strut stops; Replaced rear shocks; Replaced tie rod ends with Turbo tie rod ends; Replaced ball joints; Replaced all wheel bearings and seals; Replaced pedal bushings and rebuilt pedal cluster; Replaced clutch pedal spring; Replaced shift rod bushings; Rebuilt shift coupler; Replaced all "soft" brake lines; Replaced front and rear rotors; Rebuilt all calipers (painted red); Replaced all brake pads; Replaced master cylinder; Installed new engine sound proofing; Installed new hood shocks; Installed new floor pans; Replaced gas tank support; Undercoated entire car; Replaced wiper blades; Powder coated windshield wiper arms; Powder coated rear deck grill; Powder coated rear "PORSCHE" and "912" scripts; Powder coated shift coupler cover; Powder coated ash tray; (yes, I cant believe I did this too!); Rebuilt eBrake assembly; Replaced horn contact button; Replaced rear quarter window seals; Replaced eBrake lever boot and shift lever boot; Replaced shift rod boot; Replaced hot air hoses; Replaced suspension pan plate; Replaced all bumper to body seals; Painted all bumpers red; Installed new carpet; Installed new trunk carpet; Installed "peel and stick" soundproofing (same as dynomat); Refurbished gas tank (coated inside and out with RENU coating); Replaced gas tank seal; Replaced fuel filler flap; Replaced fuel filler neck sleeve; Replaced fuel filler neck sleeve; Replaced drivers and passengers floor boards; Replaced deck lid T handle; Replaced engine grill rain tray; Installed new OHTSU tires (25/60R15) Installed new battery; Installed 16" replica Fuchs (painted red); Wrapped upper body in heavy duty white vinyl; Installed Martini racing stripe; Installed rear window graphics; Installed new speedometer cable; Replaced headliner (black OEM style); Recovered dash panel in red perforated vinyl; Installed new PORSCHE script floor mats; Installed second set of clear vinyl mats over PORSCHE script mats; Replaced speedometer with rebuilt speedometer (set to 0 miles therefore mileage on rebuild is accurate); Installed PowerConnect 7" CD/DVD/AM/FM/AUX/USB stereo (DVD works and has kill switch) Installed 2 Kenwood 6X9" speakers; Installed self-powered Dual Subwoofer; Installed new antenna; Installed new knobs for lights and wipers; Installed custom "Bavarian Motors" shifter knob; Replaced front windshield and seal; Replaced rear windshield seal; Removed all windows and had window trim polished; Rebuilt all windows with new rubber / windor channel felt; Replaced driver side front turn assembly; Replaced all turn signal lenses; Replaced all turn signal lens seals; Replaced front headlights; Installed new OEM style drivers side view mirror; Installed new door draft plugs; Installed new window crank handles; Replaced the hood emblem seal; Replaced the dash heater control knobs (all red) Recovered front and rear seats with red vinyl and black piping; Painted front seat brackets gloss black; Installed RS door panels; Recovered rear side panels and shelf. Obviously, I have receipts for all the repairs described above and all parts were sourced from reputable sources, e.g., Pelican, SMC, Porsche North Houston, etc., etc.. I have also done my best to document the work performed photographically (see photos below) and digital images of all receipts and photos can be included in the sale. After completing these repairs, I can honestly state that this 912 is ALMOST NEW and is about as good as it could ever be. While it is not perfect, its mechanical performance is impeccable. In fact, the mechanics are so good that if the car is purchased at the "Buy It Now" prince then I will sell the car with a "buy it back" guaranty. Please ask me for the details on this guaranty. PLEASE NOTE: The car does not currently have its original engine. However, I have the original engine and am in the process of reassembling it. If the car is purchased at the "Buy It Now" price then the original engine (in long block form without carbs, engine tin or peripherals) will accompany the car. In addition, if the car is purchased at the "BIN" price then I will also include a set of 15X5.5 front and 15X7 rear Fuch rims. Finally, if the car is purchased at the "BIN" price then I will include a set of 1969 Texas plates (front and rear). In closing, if you are in the market for a very nice, rapidly appreciating 912 then you should give the instant car serious consideration. While it is not a concours level car, it is a nearly perfect driver. If you would like to see it being driven then there is a video of it being driven on my YouTube channel - TheBavarianMotors. If you are interested in acquiring this car then please contact Mark Counts at 713-320-3059. Custom wheels. Looks & runs great. Low mileage. Records available. New tires. Non-smoker. Runs & drives great. Very clean interior. Well maintained. Additional Photos Finance Please ensure that you have obtained financing prior to bidding on one of our cars. Warranty Unless expressly stated otherwise, our cars are sold "As Is" and without warranty. However, some of our cars come with the full manufacturers warranty and some are eligible for extended warranties. Please discuss the potential purchase of an extended warranty with your sales representative. Shipping Unless stated otherwise in the vehicles listing, shipping is the sole responsibility of the buyer. There are many reputable transporters across the country and the Buyer is required to contract directly with one of them. If required, we can locate a shipper for the Buyer but will not assume responsibility for the vehicle once it is consigned to a shipper. Terms and Conditions Terms and Conditions All vehicles I sell have clean and clear titles. I do NOT sell salvage vehicles or vehicles with reconditioned titles. All vehicles are sold "AS IS" and there are no representations or warranties except those contained in the written sales contract or bill of sale. The winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours by phone to start the transaction. It is understood that the vehicle is sold on an "As Is" basis. Buyer are free to purchase with or without an inspection. I strongly encourage pre-purchase inspections. These inspections are relatively cheap and help ensure that the Buyer is completely satisfied with their purchase. All sales are subject to a state inspection fee and a Vehicle Inventory Tax imposed on the dealership by State law. All sales are subject to a $199 dealer service fee and a $99 document fee. Texas residents must pay applicable sales tax and a registration fee. Out-of-state customers may pay tax and register the vehicle in their own applicable state. Upon request, we may be able to complete the buyers home state registration. The buyer is responsible for all shipping costs. I will arrange for shipping, if requested. Also, transportation to and from the airport and our location is buyers responsibility. I make every attempt to deliver vehicles to clients with two keys, key fobs, manuals, booklets, NAV CDs, wheel locks, tool kits, etc..., however, from time-to-time, a vehicle may be missing one or more of these items and I cannot guarantee that they will be included in the vehicle at the time of sale. Please call for the exact accessories included for the vehicle. For Canadian car buyers: If the title is to be released at the time of delivery (which is much mandatory to move the vehicle through customs), a wire transfer is the fastest way to complete the sale. If the payment is not by bank wire transfer, i.e., certified bank check or approved loan check, the title will only be released when all funds have cleared. Please keep in mind that the funds verification process can take up to 15 days. We will assist you with the documentation needed to clear Canadian customs, but knowing exactly which documents are required by your home province are the buyers responsibility. Requirements for Canada can be found at www.riv.ca under "Registration of import vehicles, Canada". Notice to All Bidders Please remember your eBay obligations. When you bid, you are entering into a legal and binding contract. Do not bid if you do not intend to buy this vehicle! All bidders must have pre-approved loans or other financing. The winning bidder must contact us within 24 hours by phone to complete the sale and to receive a purchase order via fax. Major Credit Cards are accepted. 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false For Sale- 1991 BMW 318i(s) 5 speed I am listing for sale my e30 318i 5 speed. If you are a BMW enthusiast you know the appeal of an e30, especially an m42 318. If you are unfamiliar, Google it. I have owned the car for 3 years, and in that time I have put a lot of work and money into it. It has a rebuilt motor, limited slip diff, sport seats, and more. The car is in good running order, but needs some work to be in tip-top shape overall. This is a great car for someone who wants a run-around with some style, or for someone looking for a classic project. Below, you will find a list of the good and the bad. If I forget anything, I apologize. I am selling the car because I bought something else, and do not have the time to work on it, or to drive it. I do not want the e30 to rot in my driveway. I would rather see it go to someone who has time for it and will drive it regularly. I am not in a rush to sell, so NO LOW BALL OFFERS. Low-ball offers will not even be entertained. If you are serious, please contact me for a test drive. I am asking $5500 with the BBS wheels, and $4500 without. These cars are only going up in value. Good: The engine was rebuilt from the bottom up right after I bought it. The water pump and radiator are new. Control arms, tie rods, and bushings were replaced. I used m3 offset control arm bushings. Suspension replaced with H&R sport springs, shocks, and struts. Front brake pads and rotors replaced. New stock cat-back exhaust. New fuel filter. New battery. 410 limited slip differential, with fresh seal and fluid. Clutch is solid, and trans fluid is fresh. Sport seats. The dash has only minor cracks. If you are an e30 person, you know these dashes are notorious for major cracking. The carpets show some wear, and the floor mats are not stock. AC works. I have receipts for most of the parts and work done since I have owned the car. All work listed here has been done in the last 3 years, with most occurring in the first year. I also have a number of parts, bits, and pieces for it: Rear brake pads and rotors (new in box). Front axle hubs (new in box). At least two air boxes and mass air flow meters. Dash cluster. Various trim bits (inside and out). Leather wrapped, 3 spoke steering wheel (from the convertible model), with spacer. Spare transmission. I addition to all of this I also have a set of BBS basket weaves. 2 rs and 2 rm, for the staggered look. They are freshly powder coated with gold barrels. There is only one spot of real curb rash on the lips. They are cleaned and prepped, but not put together yet. I also have a set of 4 205/50r15 tires with some life left in them to go with the wheels. The wheels can be included in the sale of the car, but I AM NOT SELLING THE WHEELS SEPARATELY UNTIL THE CAR IS SOLD (unless the price is right $$$). Bad: Needs new steering rack. The current rack does not have power steering and is a bit sloppy. I wanted to replace it with the e36 rack (more direct ratio, excellent upgrade for almost the same cost as stock), but never got to it. The ignition system needs some attention, and I believe one or more coil packs is going bad (not an expensive or complex fix). The radio is aftermarket, but the connections are loose in the back and it needs to be re-installed. The sunroof crank mechanism needs to be replaced. As with most e30’s, the gauges are getting worn. The tach works, speedo occasionally goes out, temp needle jumps around a bit, fuel gauge and low gas light work but empty is actually at the half tank mark. THE LIGHT WILL COME ON BEFORE YOU RUN OUT. I have a replacement cluster that was working when it was pulled from a parts car. The passenger rear window motor does not work. Electronic locks do not work, but the key opens everything. Electronic adjustment for side views does not work. Small oil leak from oil pressure sender. Just needs to be tightened. The exterior shows some wear for its age. There are some large paint chips along the front edge of the hood, there is a small dent on the rear driver corner, and the skirt around the exhaust is bent. The paint could use a buffing. The paint is original and several layers thick, so buffing will greatly restore the shine. The pictures will show all of the trouble spots. *All parts needed for these jobs can be found on Pelican Parts if you are a do-it-yourselfer. More photos available upon request. Local pick-up only. $500 deposit due upon completion of listing.

My very rare, gray-market import Mercedes 200TD (touring diesel) is for sale. Please read the whole ad and feel free to contact me with any questions. If you leave your number I'll call or send you mine! This unique wagon has the OMB601 4-cylinder naturally aspirated diesel engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox in a w124 touring (station wagon) chassis; a configuration never officially imported to the US. I’ve never seen another one in the states. The beautiful thing about this car is the amazing fuel economy. I’ve seen 44mpg on a three tank average while driving conservatively. The wagon body-style offers plenty of space and the rear seats fold down flat to provide a nice, flat spacious cargo hold (or camping space for the frugal road-tripper). With only 145k miles this car has plenty of life left. These little MB diesels are known for their reliability and longevity, with owners reporting several hundred thousands of miles before major overhaul.I also like that it was built to be very simple: manual windows, manual door locks, manual mirrors, and manual transmission. This is a big plus for those of us who have had to pony up the dinero for MB window and door lock motors! A cool detail can be found in the marvellously engineered mono-wiper. Just don’t marvel at it while driving in the rain! This car is quite rare, but all parts are easily obtainable through Pelican Parts, Mercedes Source, and the local MB dealer. The following for the w124 benz is strong and a good enthusiast base is available for support. Maintenance and service tutorials abound on the ‘net and most MB mechanics know how to wrench on these old girls, making service affordable and relatively pain-free. This is a really cool car, but it’s over 30 years old and is best for someone who enjoys tinkering, has experience working on older german cars, and/or wants a project that is practical for driving. I think someone who wants to run SVO, WVO, or biodiesel would love this little wagon. It is so practical, economical, and fun! Condition:The car is in good mechanical condition. As mentioned, the miles are quite low and the running condition of the engine reflects its relative youth. Like all diesels, some black smoke is belched at startup that clears after a short period. No blue smoke or white smoke, excessive oil consumption, or other signs of pending trouble have been observed.I recently had the rear suspension serviced and the shocks were replaced with OEM units. Many folks delete the factory self-adjusting system, but not this one; it is as original and properly setup. I also recently replaced the heater blower motor with a factory replacement and upgraded the fuses to copper/ceramic units (this solved ALL of the little electrical gremlins). The sunroof opens and closes as intended (electric). The lights all work properly, the stereo is the original Becker and it works (cassette deck and all). The doors all open and close, but one fails to lock (the rear driver’s side door). Not sure what the issue is as I never looked into it. It can’t be too complex since it is a manual lock. The exhaust was recently repaired and inspected and is solid. The brakes were inspected at the same time and were found within spec. They work as intended. The tires are almost new and have only seen about 5k miles. They are winter tires and the rears are studded. The paint is good for a 30yr old car, but has some scratches and little dents here and there. The color is really quite a beautiful shade of blue and I tried to capture that in the pictures. It’s a nice looking car.The interior is in surprisingly good condition. The carpet is not bad, the dash has no cracks or fading, and the seats show very little wear and no rips. The seat are the manually adjustable sport seats and are the envy of everyone old diesel benz enthusiast I know! They were never put into a US-bound car and therefore extremely rare. Full disclosure of known issues:The heater is either on or off, with no adjustment for fan speed. This is intentional because the original speed-sensing fan regulator burnt out and I opted to bypass it. I’ve found this to work just fine. The rear suspension feels a bit too firm, as if the accumulators may need to be replaced. They can be had for just over $100 each (two needed). I am happy to have this serviced for the new owner at your request. The body shows some rust, but nothing structural or unrepairable. The majority of the rust can be found on and around the jack-points (located on the rocker panels). The shifter feels a bit sloppy. I ordered all new bushings and mounts for the shifter and linkage but have not yet installed them. I can perform this service at the new owner’s request or send along the parts if you’d rather do it yourself. The antenna broke many years ago and was replaced by an aftermarket unit that has also broken. I’m happy to put in another replacement, but I suggest the new owner opt for an OEM unit. The driver side headlight lens has a small hole in it (see pictures). This has not affected the functionality of the light at all. Spares and such:I’m including a Bentley Enthusiast Manual, a Haynes Service Manual, the original owners manuals and other factory literature. I have spare bulbs, spare fuses, spare fluids, some speciality tools, and other spares that are good to carry. Please ask questions if you have them. I'll be taking additional pictures this week and posting them, so please ask for anything you'd like to see and I'll try to capture it. The benz is located at my home, in my garage in Kalamazoo, MI. I'm pulling out to the road for a few hours a day and therefore reserve the right to end the auction early. Good luck!

Red Exterior / White Interior VIN: 116878438 2 Doors, Rear Wheel Drive, Sedan, 4 Cylinders, Manual Inventory ID: 878438 Vehicle Description The Type 1s genesis can be traced (primarily) to the work of three brilliant automotive engineers: Joseph Ganz, Hans Ledwinka and Ferdinand Porsche. Joseph Ganz was Jewish engineer with a penchant for controversy which survives him to this day. In 1923, while studying mechanical engineering, Ganz had developed an automobile design that featured a mid-engine, tunnel frame automobile with independent suspension. Shortly after graduating from university, Ganz became the editor in chief of a car magazine which was eventually named Motor Critic. As editor, Mr. Ganz began to openly criticize the 1920’s era automobiles then being produced by the German auto industry. His chief complaints against these “devil’s carts” revolved around their inefficient drive trains, high centers of gravity, great weight, lack of independent suspension and solid axles. Using his voice at Motor Critic, Ganz began to advocate for the development of lightweight, aerodynamic, rear mounted, independently suspended, tube chassis automobiles. Importantly, Mr. Ganz not only advocated for these alternative cars but he also began to design them. In the late 1920’s Ganz began having discussion with German motorcycle manufacturer Zundapp to build a prototype of his design. During these discussions Ganz disclosed many of his ideas to Zundapp and they retained them for future use. These discussions broke down and Zundapp hired Ferdinand Porsche to build an “Auto fur Jedermann” (“Auto for Everyman”). In 1931, the first Porsche designed prototype was produced – the Zundapp 12 – and by 1932 three were in operation. This prototype is widely considered to be the first manifestation of what was to become the VW Beetle. However, one year prior to the appearance of the Zundapp 12, Mr. Ganz and the Ardie motorcycle company produced an operational prototype – the Ardie-Ganz prototype - which captured, in part, Ganz’s vision of a proper automobile. This prototype featured a central tunnel or tube chassis which supported the car’s suspension, engine and drivetrain, it had a mid-mounted engine and swing axle suspension at all four corners. In examining archival photographs of the Ardie-Ganz prototype, one cannot escape the similarity it bears to a 1970’s American classic – the Volksrod. After demonstrating the Ardie prototype, Mr. Ganz received an offer to build a second prototype from the German car manufacturer, Adler. Ganz completed this prototype in 1931 and nicknamed it the “Maikafer” or “May Bug.” After completing this car, Ganz took it on a promotional tour to display its technological advancement. According to one source, Ferdinand Porsche not only saw the May Bug but actually rode in the car. In the summer of 1931, Ganz was retained to consult with Mercedes Benz on the development of a prototype vehicle similar to the May Bug. Working with other engineers at Mercedes, Ganz produced the 120H prototype which featured modern “Beetle-esque” body panels, a tube chassis and a rear mounted, air cooled boxer engine. Mercedes never brought this car into production and Ganz was left without a manufacturer for his May Bug. After Ganz left Mercedes, he began working with another German car manufacturer Standard Fahrzeugfabrik. Using patents he had obtained over the years, Ganz and Standard were able to produce a production version of the May Bug called the Standard Superior. This car had a tubular chassis, a horizontally opposed, a 2 stroke, 2 cylinder engine mounted in the rear of the car. However, the engine was in front of the rear, swing axle transaxle and the car had independent front suspension. This production car first appeared in February 1933, at the Berlin Auto Show (and may have been seen there by the then Chancellor Hitler). By September 1933, Standard was producing promotional literature describing the Standard Superior as “the fastest and cheapest German Volkswagen.” Within a year of the appearance of the Standard Superior, Ganz was placed under arrest by the Gestapo under allegations that he was attempting to blackmail a Czech company, Tatra. This allegation appeared to be completely baseless but, in June 1934 – shortly after Hitler ordered Porsche to develop his people’s car - Ganz fled from Germany to Switzerland where he attempted, without great success, to resurrect his May Bug. The company that Ganz was accused of attempting to blackmail - Tatra - employed one of Europe’s greatest automobile engineers, Hans Ledwinka. In 1921, Ledwinka was appointed to the position of chief design engineer at Tatra and by 1923 he had designed the first known tube or “backbone” chassis. Ledwinka also invented versions of swing axle transaxles, independent front suspension and rear mounted, horizontally opposed, air cooled engines. Perhaps his greatest automotive contribution was in the field of aerodynamics. Using his designs, Tatra brought the first streamlined automobile bodies to market and forever changed the bodies of automobiles. In the early 1930’s Ledwinka and his design partner, Erich Überlacker, began design on a rear engine, tubular chassis car named the V570 prototype. The first prototype was completed in 1931 and then went through a second design iteration. In 1933, the V570 achieved its final incarnation. This car had the following characteristics: a four seat sedan with a tubular chassis and a rear mounted two-cylinder air-cooled boxer engine which was attached to an integrated swing axle gear-box (sounds like a Beetle, huh?). Perhaps the most innovative aspects of the car revolved around the manner in which air was circulated to the rear mounted engine. Ledwinka’s ideas in this area were patented and, seemingly, protected. Owing to the success of another Tatra model, the Tatra 57, the V570 prototype was shelved and the car was never placed into production. Ledwinka was personally acquainted with Hitler and had several dinners with him where the subject of automobiles was discussed. After one of these dinners Hitler is reported to have said to Porsche “This [a Tatra] is the car for my roads.” In 1933, after the appearance of the Standard Superior and the design of the V570 prototype, Hitler ordered Ferdinand Porsche to develop a “Volkswagen” or “people’s car.” In May 1934, in Berlin’s Kaiserhof Hotel, Hitler gave the following design parameters to Porsche: the car must seat 2 adults and 3 children, it must be rear engine and air cooled, it must be able to travel at 62 mph and obtain fuel economy of 22 mpg. Further, worn out or broken parts must be able to be replaced easily and cheaply. After receiving these directives, Porsche began meeting regularly with Ledwinka to discuss the design of the Volkswagen Beetle. In later life Porsche stated that at these meetings “… sometimes I looked over [Ledwinka’s] shoulder and sometime he looked over mine.” Building upon the work that preceded him, including the Zundapp 12, the May Bug, the Standard Superior and the V570, Porsche first produced the Type 60 prototype. This prototype saw several iterations and, with help from Mercedes, was placed into limited production for testing purposes only. On May 26, 1938, after the Beetle had been approved for production, Hitler spoke at the Volkswagen factory and officially named the car the “Kraft durch Freude-Wagon” or “Strength through Joy Car.” Following this speech, the Beetle was intended to be placed into production (and a handful of pre-War cars were actually produced). Subsequently, Tatra filed suit against VW claiming that the KdF Wagon infringed on no less than 10 of its patents. This lawsuit was stopped when Germany invaded Czechoslovakia and occupied the Sudentenland in 1938. In 1961, Volkswagen settled the suit by paying Tatra $3,000,000 German marks. Following the end of World War II, the Americans passed control of the Volkswagen factory over to the British who had plans to disassemble it and ship it CKD-style to Britain. However, no British car manufacturer wanted the factory or the car. In fact, one detractor stated “... the vehicle does not meet the fundamental technical requirement or a motor car … it is quite unattractive to the average buyer.” Fortunately, a British Army officer named Major Ivan Hirst, was assigned responsibility for the VW factory. Hirst convinced his superiors to order 20,000 Beetles and by 1946, the factory was producing approximately 1,000 cars per month. Under Hirst’s direction, the KdF-Wagon was renamed the Beetle and the rest, as they say, is history. The example presented here is one of the 21,529,464 Beetles built between 1938 and 2003. The luster of its red paint is truly striking. The original restorer of this car matched the paint to that placed on a 1960s era Porsche 356B. Although 20 years old, the paint is defect free and is of far better quality that what originally graced the car. The paint has no rock chips or other imperfections and, in all truthfulness, the paint looks as good today as it did in 1966 (perhaps better). More importantly, the paint is not blemished by a single sign of rust. That is, there are no rust bubbles and there is no know rust on any portion of this car. In similar fashion, the cars chrome is virtually perfect and is not pitted or cracked. It shines brightly and polishes easily. The bumpers, headlight rings, running board and body strips, antenna, front turn signal housings, side mirrors, front vents, and rear fender panels are all in excellent condition, as is the rubber which surrounds them. Please note the pictures showing the mounting points of the bumpers to the body. As shown, the supporting arms for the bumpers look new and the rubber surrounding them is also exemplary. The roof rack is not original to the car and car be easily removed. It is also blemish free and brand new. I personally find it appealing and believe that it adds to the overall charm of the car. If you disagree then you may remove it without any damage to the vehicle or its paint. The chrome wheels are Porsche 10 slot rims with matching Wolfsburg nipple hubcaps and, again, they are virtually perfect. The rims are topped by Bridgestone Potenza 205/55R15s which appear to have virtually no miles on them. The cars spare tire is also a chrome 10 slot rim and the spare tire is completely serviceable. The spare tire compartment has no rust and is not even dirty. The car has an original jack in the proper place. Both the jack and the bracket holding it look to be in "as new" condition. The car has a complete set of original tools in a green cotton canvas back. Owing to their pristine nature, these tools are presumed to be replicas (nice, rust free, unused ones though). The car is equipped with two window washers and reservoirs. The original reservoir was designed to tap into the spare tire and use its air pressure to power the system. Owing to its poor design, the prior owner bypassed this system and installed a modern electrical pump and large reservoir in the car. The small black button beside the ashtray activates the second system. As the car looks like it has never been driven in rain, this appears to be something of an "I have done everything else, I might as well do this" item. In the boot, the rear of the cars instrument cluster and attendant wiring is covered by a black plastic cover which is far more durable than the original fiberboard. Please note the photographs which show the condition of the painted boot hinges. These hinges are emblematic of the entire car and show that its restoration was performed at the highest level possible. The interior of the car is in the same superior condition as the exterior and is impressively fitted with white vinyl seats in traditional VW basket weave. There are four three point seat belts in the car which are of new manufacture. The seat belt locks bear the Wolfsburg crest and function properly. The door cards are a matching white as is the headliner and the sun visors. The speedometer, odometer and gas gauge are fully functional and accurately record the cars vital statistics. The speedometer has been conveniently hash-marked with yellow lines to serve as a de facto tachymeter and indicate the maximum rpms/speed for each respective gear. Please note, the car will be sold under an Arizona title which states that the mileage on the title is "ACTUAL MILEAGE"!!! Given the supremely well cared for nature of this vehicle and its fundamentally sound character, I have no reason to believe that this is an inaccurate representation. While I cannot personally attest to the veracity of any mileage claims, I can state that it is common to rely on mileage statements placed on auto titles. Thus, when you go to register this vehicle you may be able to record the mileage as actual miles. Returning to the interior of the car, the steering wheel is devoid of cracks and has a bright, unpitted trim ring which is capped by a Wolfsburg crest horn button. A convenient cargo tray sits directly under the dash and is useful for storing routine trip items. This tray is made of plastic and is of German manufacture but is not original to the car. However, it is age appropriate and fits into both the era and the concept of the car. The car has original design rubber front and rear floor mats with integrated tunnel covers. A pair of fitted VW logo floor mats will also be sold with the car. In order to monitor the Porsche 356 power plant, an aftermarket oil temperature gauge has been installed on the left side of the steering wheel below the dash. The sunroof opening is covered with perforated white vinyl and opens and closes with ease. The hand crank operates flawlessly and the tracks on which the sunroof slides are seemingly close to new. In order to fully close the sunroof, it is necessary to "over crank" the hand lever by about 1/4th of a turn. This can probably be adjusted but owing to my unfamiliarity with such things, I have decided to live with this minor imperfection. The car will be sold with an indoor car cover which fits the car nicely and will protect it nicely from the dusty perils lurking in your garage. Placing its stately appearance aside, the most impressive aspect of this car is its Porsche 356 engine. The engine number is P609233 which, according to the Pelican Parts website, indicates that the engine is from a Porsche 356 manufactured between January 1960 and September 1961. Further, the website indicates that the engine is of the 1600 variety (see www.pelicanparts.com/356/technical_specs for verification). Thus, in stock form, the engine is capable of producing approximately 60 horsepower! Documents in my possession indicate that the entire car was restored in 1989. This restoration included a complete engine rebuild (by Modern Specialists in Boulder, Colorado), the installation of a super street transmission with 3:88 ratios, powder coating of all engine tins (25 pieces), seats recovered and new carpet installed. After this restoration, the car has been continuously garage kept and it appears to be in gently used condition to this day. There are numerous other maintenance records in my file, including a notebook which documents the monies spent to restore and maintain the car. The most salient of these records indicate that in 2006 the car was converted to 12 volts with the following items being replaced: New battery;New voltage regulator;New wiper armature;New turn signal relay;New H4 Headlights;New dimmer relay;New Bosche blue coil;New horn;New horn ring;New antenna; andNew 4 point seat belts. Up for sale is my 1983 SC Targa 3.6 Varioram conversion. Regulars to the Pelican site may recognize this as the "Moses Targa", which has many threads dedicated to its high-quality, no expense spared build. I am the third owner of this car, purchased from Moses in 2010 after considering a conversion on my own 911SC Coupe (do the math, it's seriously expensive!). I've enjoyed this car immensely during my ownership, and have taken it on many long distance rallies, including the Northeast Mountain Melee in 2013 -- 1300 miles in 3 days, the car ran flawlessly. I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere -- arguably one of the most sorted, well done 3.6 conversion cars out there. The car is happy in traffic, around town or on weekend coffee run blasts to the middle of nowhere. The engine pulls strong in all gears and sounds absolutely incredible. No rust or accidents. Excercised regularly on the weekends, always garaged and obsessed over. Just an awesome car. Certainly not concours, but excellent driver and priced accordingly.103K on the chassis, approximately 65K on the engine (not sure of true mileage). Recent PPI completed with excellent 2.5 - 3.5% leakdown across all cylinders. Full PPI results upon request. Silver Exterior / Black Interior VIN: 9113111114 2 Doors, Rear Wheel Drive, Coupe, 4 Cylinders, Manual Inventory ID: 111114 Vehicle Description Production of the original version of the Porsche 911 began in 1964 and continued through 1973. In 1967, Porsche produced the first 911 Targa which was named after the legendary Targa Florio. The "targa bar" was introduced in response to feared U.S. safety regulations banning the sale of convertibles. The cars stainless steel bar fundamentally altered its shape by making it taller and more "squaresque" in the hindquarters. Originally, the car had a vinyl rear curtain which attached to the targa bar via snaps. In 1968, Porsche added an optional glass window and this version remained in production until 1988. The Targa found a distinct market in the United States and accounted for roughly thirty-five percent (35%) of all 911 sales. In 1983, Porsche produced the first true 911 cabroilet and the Targa instantly became somewhat passe. However, in 2014, and with the celebration of the 911s 50th anniversary, Porsche resurected the Targa and suddenly what was became quite new again. In 1973, Porsche offered three 911 variants: the 911T, the 911E and the 911S. The 911T was traditionally equipped with carburetors. However, in mid 1973, Porsche converted the car to Bosches new fuel injection system named K-Jetronic a/k/a CIS (continious injection system). This variant of the 911 - the 1973.5 911T with CIS - was described by Peter Zimmerman as follows: "... Finally! Porsche builds their first 10! This is the one model that deserves its own chapter. ... All things considered, this is the smoothest, most pleasant of all early 911s to be built to date to drive. The engine, at all RPM levels, is responsive and has sufficient torque to allow use at very low engine speeds. ... The 2.4 liter displacement engine delivers enough horsepower and torque to enjoy in almost any driving situation. ... the folks at the Porsche factory knew they were building really special models." The addition of CIS boosted the cars base horsepower from 130 to 148 and made it competitive with the higher priced 911E. Interestingly, the addition of CIS gave the car an impressive fuel economy of roughly 32 mpg. The example presented here is currently painted in a stunning signal red. As shown by the photos of the trunk interior and the interior door faces, this car was originally silver. The cars prior owner tastefully converted the car to a classic Porsche color (signal red) which shines nicely and has no major flaws. Obviously, the paint is not concours level but it has no rust bubbles, no significant scratches and only minor imperfections. The paint and the chasis of this car are ENTIRELY free of rust (there is NO RUST! on this car). Further, after an inspection of the chassis, I can find no evidence of a prior collision. Thus, it appears to me that the car has never been wrecked and has all original body panels. The car possesses its original cookie cutter rims and has a matching spare. The wheels were repainted silver in the not too distant past and nicely match the patina of the car. While many would prefer Fuchs, this car was not originally equipped with them (and it is probably more valuable to the purist without them). If a set of Fuchs are desired then my dealership can easily source replicas and, for a very steep price increase of $3,000, can supply an original set. The car has new tires on all four corners (195/65R15s in front and 205/65R15s in the rear). The car is equipped with chrome wheel well trim rings which were installed by the factory. After acquiring the car, I ordered the Posche certificate of authenticity (COA). The COA confirms that this car is a "numbers matching" car with the original engine and transmission. The engine number is 6133292 and the transmission number is 335574. The car has a five (5) speed transmisision which was standard on 1973.5 911Ts with CIS. According to the COA, at the time of sale the car was equiped with the following options: Stabilizer bars - F/R Chrome Strip - Fender Comfort Equipment Light Metal Wheels, Pressurized Tinted Glass All Around Dunlop Tires. The interior has been refreshed with new RS door panels (original panels will also be sold with the car), new carpet, new dash cover, new leather steering wheel cover, new Lloyds floor mats with "Targa" script and a new gear shift knob. The front seats are freshly recovered in in "black leatherette" with semi-perforated inserts and the rear seats have been repadded with foam. The Targa top is in exceptional shape and neatly folds for storage in the trunk. The silver Targa bar is also in exceptional shape. The cars rubber remains in good condition and does not need to be replaced. In order to make the car more presentable, I decided to replace the front and rear turn signal lenses with new Euro spec replicas sourced from Sierra Madre. In addition, I replaced the trunk carpeting, added a new a new "retro" radio which has AM/FM/MP3/iPod capability and inserted new Kicker 4" speakers in the rear speaker boxes. These speaker boxes were not originally from Porsche but, in my opinion, they evoke the technology of the great early 70s and add to the cars appeal. Please note, the rear speaker cases are vintage "Lear Jet" while the speakers within them are modern Kickers. In addition, I replaced the front, under dash speaker with a correct 7 X 4 inch speaker sourced from Suncoast Motorsports. Please note, this speaker is the exact dimension of the original and uses the original holes. Thus, the metal structure of the dash has not been altered. In order to maximize the efficiency of the sound system, I covered the entire floor of the car in commercial grade Dynomat (peel and stick). This greatly reduces road noise and provides additional heat deflection. In addition, I placed another layer of sound supressant on the floor boards and then placed the carpet over both layers. All materials used are completely removable and do not alter the authenticity of the car. To further enhance the cars appearance, I removed the rubber bump stops or "bumperettes" from the front of the car and replaced them with a simple 1" rubber strip. I used parts sourced from Pelican Parts to accomlish this alteration and it gives the car the same appearance as a 1973 911S. The original bumperettes will be included with the sale of the car. After the car was cosmetically refreshed, I had a mechanical inspection performed. The car was in quite good shape and did not have any major mechanical defects. However, I did have the engine removed from the car and had new valve cover gaskets, a new transmission shifter seal, a new rear main seal and various other upper end seals installed. I did not replace any seals on the long block. Please note, if the absence of oil leaks is important to you then I would strongly urge you to look for another make and model as air cooled engines are very difficult seal and/or to keep sealed. Further, I cannot guarantee that this engine will not leak oil. I can guarantee that this engine does not leak an excessive amount of oil. I can also guarantee that this engine is is good mechanical shape, i.e., it has good oil pressure, propels the car at a modern rate of speed and does not have any major oil leaks. After an oil and oil filter change was completed, a transmission service was performed. The cars A/C system was also restored through the addition of a new evaporator valve and dryer. The system was then recharged and it currently blows cold air. The system is not original to car but is fully operational and greatly improves the cars driveability. In addition, I had the following mechanical refurbishments made to this car: Installed new rear sway bark links; Installed new e-brake cable; Rebuilt / painted clutch pedal cluster; Replaced transmission shifter bushings; Rebuilt / painted shifter column; Rebuilt / painted e-brake handle; Installed new master cylinder; Installed new brake light switch; Installed new, right, rear brake line; Flushed brake system; Installed new wiper blades; Replaced all injector seals and hoses; Replaced alternator belt; Replaced accelerator pedal; Replaced drivers and passengers floorboards w/ new ABS floorboards; Installed new oil pressure sending unit; Installed new muffler gaskets; and Installed new door seals. These mechanical and cosmetic refurbishments cost my dealership over $10,000 (at wholesale price) and I have receipts to support each and every item identified herein. The receipts will accompany the sale of the car. After performing the refurbishment and driving the car approximately 300 miles, I can verify that the car starts easily, drives impeccably and, to my eye, does not need any major mechanical repairs. Obvioulsy, I urge all prospective buyers to obtain a pre-purchase inspection to confirm my opinions. If you would like for me to take this 911 to a particular shop in Houston then please ask. If you would like to have your mechanic visit my shop then please ask. Finally If you purchase the car at the listed listed and/or "Buy It Now" price then I will provide FREE SHIPPING! In addition, if you purchase the car the the "Buy It Now" price then I will provide a written "buy back" guaranty covering mechanical defects that that you discover with the car. Leather Package! Low Miles! Red Exterior / Tan Interior VIN: WP0AA299XXS625311 2 Doors, Rear Wheel Drive, Coupe, 6 Cylinders, Manual Inventory ID: 25311A Vehicle Description The 1999 Porsche 911 faced an impossible task - replace the beloved 993 and introduce the 911 community to a water cooled engine. When introduced, the 1999 996 featured a 3.4 litre, naturally aspirated flat six water cooled engine which was capable of producing 296 bhp. This engine was mated to a six speed manual transmission and enabled the car to go from 0 to 60 in a little under 5 seconds (about 4.7 seconds to be exact). While the car was initially rejected by Porscheophiles because of its water cooled power plant and Boxteresque "fried egg" headlamps, time has venerated the 996 and shown it to be a durable, endearing drivers car which cannot be rivaled by its predecessors (including the 993!) or its contemporaries. As time has passed, the 996s has increasingly begun to be seen for what it is - a very nice drivers car - neutral, well balanced and nicely powered. Personally, I appreciate the asthetics of the car and, given the state if the 911 market, I believe that 996 represents one of the best values in the used 911 market. The example presented here is a stunningly clean and well maintained car which wears its original paint and shows perfectly from 5 feet, with only minor belmishes visible at 2 feet. The cars interior is almost new and shows only slight wear on the drivers seat bolster. The car comes equipped with the original, factory installed Becker CD/Navigation system coupled to four speakers. The stereo is iPod enabled and will play music, movies and/or television shows through the factory speakers. The car was optioned with a complete leather package and the dash and door panels are covered in leather. The tires have less than 10,000 miles on them and the car has been recently serviced by the prior owner. The most recent service includes an oil change at 44,785 miles and the replacement of the engine mounts.. Importantly, the prior owner replaced the IMS bearning with a LN Engineering ceramic IMS which he obtained from Pelican Parts. Please note, the original IMS remains with the car and it shows no sign of failure. In fact, it could be returned to service if necessary. Thus, any concerns that you might have regarding this cars IMS should be entirely alleviated. The car also has a good serivce history which shows that the clutch was replaced at 35,000 miles and has seen only slight use. The car does not leak oil and does not need any mechanical repairs performed. The car is being sold with a Porsche sunshade and three (3) sets of tan floor mats. The car has a clean Carfax and has never been in an accident or had any form of repair to the metal body panels. Thus, if you are looking for a "clean", low mileage 911 which looks virtually new and needs no mechanical repairs then please call Mark at 713-320-3059.
