Commonly referred to as the “forgotten ones” the 1946 and 1947 Ford half-ton trucks were the break between Ford’s F-100 model distinctions. These trucks were never specifically given a unique model name; rather they were designated as a Ford truck or pickup. This truck was purchased by Arnold and Ruth Wiley of Lawrence, Kansas in 1952. The truck saw regular use until the mid-60’s when it was stored to be used only on special occasions. By the 1970’s the family had moved the truck to storage in an enclosed barn, until 2013 when Mr. Wiley contracted Kevin Holbrook to complete the restoration process. Recently benefiting from a paint job, this truck is a show-stopper; painted in the original dark green with a cream secondary color. The interior was reupholstered with Mocha Brown vinyl bench seat with green piping and new headliner. Under the dashboard a period correct heater box is located too. During the restoration process the frame, inside and outside the cab, and driveline were painted using the exterior green color. The entire brake system has been gone through with new brake lines and rebuilt drums, along with the fuel system. Also the fuel tank was cleaned and lined with a rust prevention material, preventing future fuel delivery issues. A new floor pan was welded in the cab and is covered by a new rubber floor mat. Also the turn signals, headlights, and brake lights were replaced modern LED lightbulbs. After sitting for 45 plus years, all that was required from starting the engine was replacing the fluids and the carburetor gasket! Mr. Wiley stated that his intention was to keep the truck as original as possible; work was done only to ensure the mechanical safety of this very original truck. He also stated both the engine and transmission, to the best of his knowledge, as never been removed or rebuilt. Although during the restoration process the transmission, wheel bearings, and differential were serviced. All of the fluids and seals have been changed and replaced. Everything has been gone though and sorted with this truck, would make a fantastic show truck, shop truck, or a weekend cruiser. Odometer currently reads 46,102 and is believed to be original, however, due to age of vehicle truck is sold as is and mileage exempt on a clean clear Oklahoma title. Young soldiers with post-WWII salary cash who were looking for the thrills and adrenalin rush they experienced during the global conflict; sought after cheap automobile platforms to extensively modify for maximum performance. The Ford Model-T provided just what the young “hot-rodders” were looking for, a versatile chassis and inexpensive parts. This 1923 T-Bucket has been tastefully modified, in true “hot-rodder” fashion. Both the body and frame are aftermarket copies of an original 1923 Model T; the body is fiberglass and the frame is a 2×4 boxed steel. A 350ci Chevrolet based V8 replaced the sluggish 4-cyclinder, along with a heavy-duty live rear axle. The engine is very healthy and ideals at a comfortable temperature and noise level. A newer aluminum radiator has been fitted into the shell of a ’32 Ford radiator, keeping the “hot-rod” look while still gaining all of the advantages of modern cooling systems. This T-bucket’s front axle is placed front of the engine; an aftermarket drop axle was used along with a transversely mounted leaf spring and small shock absorbers. The addition of the shock absorbers improves the road handling and comfort dramatically. The bright yellow paint is in excellent condition, contrasting well against the chrome used throughout the car. Reupholstered using premium tan vinyl the interior and rear “turtle-deck” seat are in great condition with no noteworthy imperfections to be found. This was the first year Ford decided to bring back the true Thunderbird recipe, a two door convertible with a hardtop transforming it into a coupe. Powered by a 3.9L V-8 making 252 horsepower and mated with an extremely smooth five speed automatic, this Thunderbird can cruise all day.
