The ultimate lead sled, the archetype, the one that everyone wants, this 1950 Mercury Monterey coupe defines the breed. Frenched, louvered, lake pipes, fender skirts, it has all the traditional custom styling cues, all wrapped in a gorgeous candy paint job that ideally suits the long, low custom. Paired with the bulletproof reliability of a small block Chevy and a tasteful interior, this is a lead sled that\'s very easy to love. This car could have been the prototype for every Mercury lead sled built, incorporating some of the most traditional modifications and a few tasteful touches that make it unique. The list of body mods is extensive, ranging from a nosed and decked hood punched full of louvers, to the frenched headlights, to the custom grille, and stretching back to the nicely faired-in lake pipes and shaved door handles. Of course, classic accessories like the dual spotlights and blue dot taillights make it look period-perfect, and the smoothie look is quite evident from any angle. The Raspberry Pearl paint glows from within and has a sugary look that makes this car insanely appealing. Big chrome bumpers offset all that luscious paint with a big of flash, plus the stainless side trim that makes this car look long and low. Fender skirts are signed with the car\'s \"Wild Thing\" name, and there are expertly done pinstripes in all the usual spots. Handsome two-tone leather seats are an upscale contrast to the high-visibility exterior, and the overstuffed seats mean this is a fantastic road trip car. With a 1949 Mercury dashboard, it has a classic look, nicely rendered in satin gray to match the upholstery. The instruments are a combination of original speedometer and aftermarket auxiliary gauges that work rather well together and you\'ll note the knobs have all been replaced with glass beads for a neat custom look. A tilt steering column carries a woodgrained Grant GT steering wheel and that vintage-looking shifter is connected to a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission. Under-dash A/C uses modern components and R134a refrigerant to deliver contemporary performance and there\'s a Sony AM/FM/CD/iPod stereo in the center of the dash. Red under-dash lighting gives it a cool glow at night, and the trunk is neatly finished with burgundy carpets and a matching fifth wheel. For motivation, this one uses a 350 cubic inch Chevy V8 with the usual upgrades. There\'s a mild performance cam inside so the idle sounds suitable for a custom, a Weiand intake is fed by an Edelbrock intake and there\'s a serpentine belt drive on the front of the engine for easy maintenance. It\'s based on a 4-bolt main block, so it\'s sturdy, and with a few chrome bits the engine bay is dressed quite nicely for a custom. The ram\'s horn exhaust manifolds feed a custom dual exhaust system with Flowmasters, so it sounds wicked even just cruising the fairground, and with air shocks out back, you can adjust the ride height when you have passengers in the back seat, so it always looks and sits right. The rear end is out of a 1969 Camaro, so it\'ll handle anything the small block dishes out. 15-inch chrome steelies with baby moon hubcaps are the ideal period custom wheel and they carry BFGoodrich Silvertown wide whitewall radials, as you\'d expect. A lot of customs look great but don\'t drive very well, but this Mercury truly runs as well as it looks. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Dallas/Fort Worth showroom. If you\'ve been planning on building an old Chevy pickup, you should probably just buy this one instead. Featuring a 1950 5-window cab, an awesome color combination, a crate V8, and all the luxury amenities, it\'s exactly the way you\'d do it for about half the price of building your own. What\'s holding you back? The Advance Design pickups are probably even more popular today than when they were new, and with the market\'s new-found interest in vintage haulers, they\'re getting harder to find by the day. The best ones preserve all that\'s great about the original design and simply update the hardware underneath, and they totally nailed it with this one. The black paint keeps it looking simple, as if it could still head out into the back 40 and get the job done, and I think that\'s a big part of the appeal. Finish quality is quite good overall, with a clean bodywork and paint that is about right for a commercial vehicle. It\'s all steel, no fiberglass reproduction parts here, and the fit of the various pieces and parts is quite good, so it feels carefully built. Keeping all the chrome and stainless trim is a big plus, giving this truck an old-fashioned look that\'s even more appealing with the subtle modifications. The warm wooden bed is surrounded by walls with spray-on bedliner material and those classic taillights are now filled with LEDs for a slightly high-tech look. Bright red is always a great choice inside a black vehicle, and the handsomely appointed interior of this pickup is light years nicer than it was originally. That might be the factory bench seat, but it\'s wearing a brand new seat cover that uses pleats for a proper period look and a custom center armrest to make it a bit more civilized. Custom door panels help soften the interior a bit from the original steel pieces, and black floor coverings anchor it so it\'s not red overload. Custom gauges from Auto Meter fit into the original holes in the dash, so no cutting was required to get that trick look and a late-model tilt column and steering wheel keep it looking OEM. A modern A/C system was discreetly tucked under the instrument panel and there\'s an AM/FM/CD stereo cleverly hidden with the original slot using a fitted block-off plate. It\'s highly finished and refined, making this the kind of truck you\'re going to have a hard time resisting on the next sunny day. A crate 350 slots right into the old truck\'s engine bay, giving it a far more useful powerband for today\'s traffic than the original six. Topped by an Edelbrock 4-barrel carb and intake, plus a few chrome pieces, it runs and drives superbly. Upgrades like power rack-and-pinion steering and front disc brakes, not to mention a Mustang II front suspension, make this Chevy feel far more modern and capable. A TH350 3-speed automatic spins a 10-bolt rear end from an S10 pickup, which is an easy fit in the back of this vintage pickup. A custom exhaust system with throaty mufflers was just installed and the gas tank was relocated under the bed for safety. Obviously the stance was modified a bit, and it really hunkers down over those staggered steel wheels, which were painted red to add a bit of contrast. 215/70/14 front and 275/60/15 rear blackwall radials give it the perfect commercial look that\'s just a little bit hot-rod. A gorgeous truck with the right features, why would you build when you can buy today and start having fun immediately? Call now! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom. For more information, please call (678) 279-1609 or toll free (877) 367-1835. Ad provided by OldCarOnline.com/cond>

After all, this initally just looks like a top-of-the-line classic Ford, but look closer and it's the small details that let you in on the hot V8 under the hood. Everyone loves the sleek shoebox look of Ford's first post-war design. It was fairly groundbreaking when it first appeared, which is why it became the darling of the custom car crowds. This legacy is seen on added features like the eyelids on the headlights, sun visor, dual spotlights, rear wheel covers, and wide whitewall tires. Of course another reason why these show so well is all the brightwork that details everything, from the bullet-nose grille, to the trunk hinges. But the actual body is relatively free of ornamentation, which allows the deep shine of the burgundy to really pop on this Ford's upright shoulders. All of this superior shine points to someone caring about this coupe enough to give it a detailed and expensive restoration. The interior was given a makeover that respects the original design, yet adds a few modern functional upgrades. Bench seats fore and aft are trimmed in striped fabric and gray vinyl, so it has a '50s sensibility that's still a bit premium. Matching door panels are likewise pretty authentic, and all the factory moldings and hardware were retained. That cool two-spoke steering wheel, with bright trim, is pure 1950s space-race cool. In fact, the whole dash stays true to the original, including gauges like the speedometer and clock. You even still have the AM radio! But this one is built to be a cruiser, and that's why you have power steering and a modern R-134a air conditioning system installed discreetly under the dash. We've already alluded to something special under the hood, and you're probably already gone ahead to see the pictures of the 350 cubic-inch crate motor. If you think it's sacrilegious to install a Chevy small-block V8 under the hood of a Ford, you'll change your mind when you realize that there is no better way to get a reliable and infinitely upgradeable powertrain. In fact, this V8 appears pretty fresh, and already has a bunch of Edelbrock performance goodies installed, including the fined valve covers, air cleaner, and a four-barrel carburetor. This motor provides plenty of power for the shoebox Ford, and makes some nice gutsy noises out of the dual exhaust. The engine is also backed up by GM's trusty TH350 three-speed automatic transmission. The installation of this full package is well done, which makes this a coupe you could most likely drive every day if you decided to. The trim name of this upper-end for is Custom, and that's exactly what you get in this package. It's a beautiful coupe inside and out, with little touches that hint to everyone about something quite strong in the engine bay. This is the kind of classic that will get people talking about each little detail, and all this attention can be yours for a nice price. The Ford F-1 is arguably the best-looking post-war truck. While they all have a basic industrial attractiveness, this specimen is a cut-above because of its customizing. It starts with the aggressive lowered stance that is emphasized further by the great maroon paint. It's the perfect balance of looking fantastic, without setting off alarms that this is a non-driving trailer queen. After all, this pickup was built to enjoy. The front grille, which is often kept in chrome or white, matches the rest of the car body on this F-1. It gives the rest of the brightwork a chance to really standout in places like the detailed slats on the hood, bumpers, and the stylish Devino wheels. As expected with a custom truck like this, the bed has a real wood floor, and it looks brand new. We can't confirm that no one hauled something back here, but any duty this pickup has seen since its build has been done with great care. The interior is simply gorgeous with tan leather seats and comfy cloth inserts. This is a color scheme that matches the carpets and even coordinates with the wood on the custom Billet Specialties steering wheel. The exterior maroon paint is used on the door panels, and wraps onto the dashboard, to complete this color-coordinated hot rod. Everyone gets to enjoy the AM/FM/CD stereo, power windows, and provisions for air conditioning. But the driver gets the most fun. There's a nice floor-mounted shifter to rest your right hand. Plus, while you're enjoying the power steering with your left hand, there's a full set of VDO gauges to keep an eye on what's going on under the hood. One quick look in the engine bay, and you'll know that's not a Ford motor. It's not much of a worry that this blue oval has Chevy power because the 350 cubic-inch small-block V8 is one of the most versatile and upgradeable powerplants around. In fact, this one already has improvements bolted on, such as the Edelbrock performance air cleaner and matching valve covers. Beyond that is an Edelbrock intake, performance headers, and a sweet sounding Flowmaster dual exhaust. All this power is handled by a stout TH350 three-speed automatic transmission before being sent to a 10-bolt rear end. The final component that makes sure this whole package gets the most power to the road is a set of grippy BF Goodrich g-Force tires. Plus, when it comes time to stop, there are four-wheel disc brakes supported by Wilwood components. This is a truck that looks great and drives even better. It's a Ford pickup that attracts a lot of attention, but the enthusiast who will enjoy it most is the one sitting behind the wheel. But it's this truck's modern touches that will really seal the deal...and we cant keep them in our showroom! Funny how the old shapes wear contemporary colors so well. You could get red from Chevrolet in 1950, but it would have never been so deep and shiny that it rivals the chrome as it does on this one. Speaking of brightwork, this tall truck has a huge silver streak, with pieces like its wraparound bumpers, and legendary five-bar grille that stand out like a pristine art deco skyscraper. The better-than-new classic appearance even extends to the wood truck bed, where the lumber and chrome have been rehabbed to make this blue collar hero look like it never saw a day of work. All of this combines to give the impression of a custom hot rod, and the clincher for this bad boy attitude comes from the iconic Cragar Chrome Keystone Klassic wheels. Inside is more of the hot rod treatment, but with a premium twist. For example, the black vinyl seating is always welcomed in the vintage crowd, but this bench has a cool matching red insert in the middle. The driver gets a grippy sports steering wheel with enough chrome to fit in with the rest of the dash panel. Beyond that is a new set of gauges by Classic Instruments that look clearer than the originals, without losing the nice vintage touch. The same goes for the AM/FM/cassette radio sitting in the original knob-style fitting. But the best interior upgrade has to be the modern air conditioning system that was discreetly tucked under the instrument panel to keep you cool as you cruise town. The standard Thriftmaster six-cylinder engine that came with this Chevy 3100 would never do in a truck this cool. Instead, it upgrades to iconic small block-power with a 350 cubic-inch V8. One turn of the key, and you'll know this has some serious performance potential (of course, the throaty rumble from the dual exhaust helps, too.) But this is much more than just a unique pickup to show off on the custom car scene. There's a lot of comfort in this truck. It has a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive for all-day cruising. Plus, this is a power steering pickup, and the front end was adapted from a later-model Buick for better luxury and the added security of disc brakes. The unmistakably vintage appearance of these Chevy trucks makes them wildly popular today. This one neatly captures everything that was great about the original design, with smart upgrades that make this fun everywhere from the local burger joint, to a car show many states away. Whether it's the fault of James Dean, Sam Barris or just stellar design, 49-51 Mercurys seem gifted with universal appeal that few classics possess. This first class Mercury Kustom is the recipient of a complete, frame-off restoration that combines epic paint with excellent design, a potent Chevy big block and a clean custom interior. With fully sorted mechanicals, the car easily navigates the line between awesome weekend warrior and show-stopping crowd pleaser. And if you're the kind of buyer who's searching for a stunning, old school masterpiece that features a roster of top-notch equipment, no hot rod offers more style for less money! BODYWORK/TRIM Officially baptized in to the Kustom world just a few years back, this slick sled has been carefully finessed and expertly finished to the absolute highest standards. The smooth surfaces that make up the car's sinister profile are entirely comprised of clean fiberglass that's been chopped, channeled and laboriously block-sanded. That lightweight shell is dressed in 10 coats of Porsche Basalt Metallic base that's been splashed with a hint of pearl, sealed in thick clear and lovingly buffed to a trophy-winning shine. And today, this Merc rolls as one excellent-looking custom that's completely devoid of filler, questionable seams, strange bulges or anything else that might demerit its otherwise superior construction. The styling of Mercury's second generation Eight was successful in both ending the monotony of warmed-over pre-war designs and differentiating the brand from its comparable Ford cousin: a trick that spelled BIG sales success. Those newfound sales made the car immensely popular with customizers, and in 1949 the first lead sled, built by Sam Barris, pioneered what would become hot rodding's definitive '50s custom. At the front of this clean sedan, a color-keyed DeSoto grille rides between a nosed hood, frenched tri-bar headlights and small LED parking lamps. Behind that hood, tinted and creased glass rides inside a smoothed cowl, a small mirror and shaved, electronically actuated doors. Beneath that glass, a simple, monochromatic profile showcases the car's classic Mercury lines. And at the back of that profile, a decked, electronically actuated trunk rides between small LED taillights. ENGINE Like it or not, sometimes it's good to break tradition. And breaking tradition is one thing that makes this Merc so impressive. Lift the car's domed hood and you'll find 454 cubic inches of big block muscle that, thanks to a sweet set of polished valve covers, does a great impression of Chevy's 502 cubic inch monster motor. At the top of the fully detailed mill, a polished, open-element air cleaner feeds a coated, 750cfm Edelbrock that's plumbed with braided fluid lines and a polished, canister-style filter. The resulting energy mixture makes its way from an Edelbrock Performer 2.0 intake to cast iron Chevrolet heads. When those heads flood the cylinders, a familiar points distributor sequences fire between a chrome-capped coil and loomed Taylor Thundervolt wires. Resultant gases are jettisoned through powder-coated, long-tube headers. The orange block's cooling is provided by a custom aluminum radiator that's fitted with chrome flex tubes, two SPAL puller fans and a sleek, fiberglass shroud. Charge comes courtesy of a polished Powermaster alternator that, along with a polished AC compressor and aluminum water pump, spins on an aesthetically pleasing March pulley system. And overall, the smooth, body-matched engine compartment is exceptionally clean, featuring details such as polished breathers, polished fluid tanks, polished dipsticks and a proven Wilwood master cylinder. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Take a look under this incredible custom and you'll find a bent-tube Art Morrison skeleton that's been augmented with a series of excellent upgrades. Opposite the car's channeled and tubbed floors, a RideTech Shockwave suspension utilizes modern power rack-and-pinion steering to combine pleasant road manners with a killer stance. At the center of that suspension, a 2,500 RPM stall converter jerks a beefy 700R4 4-speed, which spins a familiar Ford 9-inch around 3.55 gears. At the sides of that awesome driveline, the aforementioned headers roll spent gases through large stainless pipes and throaty Magnaflow mufflers. At the corners of that exhaust, bright red calipers and 11-inch discs provide solid, predictable stops. And, on the outside of those discs, 20-inch DUBs spin 255/35 Mickey Thompson Street Comps in front of 275/40 Mickey Thompson Street Comps. INTERIOR Like its drivetrain and body, the car's supple interior is a completely custom creation that highlights technology while honoring heritage. 2-tone ultraleather seats, which are both soft and supportive, ride on clean gray carpet that's stretched between handsome aluminum sills. In front of those seats, a '49 Merc dash anchors Classic Instruments All American telemetry beside custom lettering. At the base of that dash, a custom console centers remote-controlled Pioneer audio and lighted Vintage Air twist knobs above small accessory switches and a classy Lokar shifter. Opposite that console, flamed side panels hang hidden courtesy lamps and modernist armrests in front of power-operated windows. Above those panels, a billet mirror leads a stitched headliner. In front of the driver, a polished and half-wrapped steering wheel laps a tilting column, a billet accelerator pedal and a cool, Mercury-branded brake pedal. And behind the blue-lit cockpit, a fully finished trunk reflects cool Mercury branding in a small, polished fuel filler. OUR SALE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATION AND ACCESSORIESA small book of build photosA copy of the car's shout out in the June, 2014 edition of Street Scene MagazineThree trophies This razor-sharp sled is one of the coolest cruisers on the planet! And at only $109,900, it isn't just a scratch-built kustom that's attainable for a fraction of its build cost; it's a unique hot rod that sets itself apart from a virtual sea of chopped, diced, smothered and covered street rods. This one also offers all the modern amenities, of course, yet keeps its ability to work for a living, making it the ultimate way to have your cake and eat it, too. We're so used to seeing these trucks in Hunter Green or bright red that the deep metallic purple seen here looks downright amazing. That's not by accident, either, because there are a ton of hours tied up in the bodywork. At first, all you notice is the color, which is deep and luxurious-looking, but when you get up close, you'll notice that there's a lot more going on. Notice the louvers on the hood, which came from an '80s Camaro IROC-Z. Some, but not all, of the original trim has been shaved, particularly the nose emblem, and the stuff that remains has been restored and shines up beautifully. There's a custom rear roll pan with neatly integrated taillights and the bed itself is full of beautifully finished timber with bright stainless rub strips. No doubt about it, this truck has exactly the right look. The interior has the same kind of nicely-done makeover, offering just enough upgrades to make it comfortable without steamrolling the original design. Comfortable cloth buckets from a late-model fit rather well in the 5-window cab and the dark charcoal gray color is a subtle contrast to the vivid purple bodywork. The dash is nicely finished using a custom insert in place of the original instrument panel, and a full array of Stewart-Warner gauges are a traditional look. A tilt steering column is topped by a cool billet steering wheel, and the center stack was very neatly redesigned to handle the Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo head unit, and A/C controls. The shifter fits neatly between the seats, and details like power windows, and the nicely trimmed door panels, make it very livable even if you want to drive it every day. For power, you just can't go wrong with a small block Chevy V8, with this one displacing a familiar 350 cubic inches. All the usual upgrades make it smooth, powerful, and reliable, including an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, MSD ignition system, and long-tube headers. The big truck-sized engine bay makes it easy to fit all the accessories, so the truck includes such niceties as power steering and front disc brakes, plus R134a refrigerant in the A/C system. Some chrome and polished aluminum makes it look just as good under the hood as everywhere else on the truck without being a challenge to maintain if you drive it. A stout TH400 3-speed automatic transmission is a great choice on a truck that can do some hauling if necessary and a 10-bolt rear end with a fat sway bar means this old Chevy feels a lot more modern on the road. It's got the perfect stance and sits on meaty 205/70/15 front and 295/50/15 rear Yokohama radials wrapped around shiny billet wheels. It's no secret why these trucks are wildly popular, and this one neatly captures everything that was great about the original design with smart upgrades that only make it more fun to drive. [email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1950 Mercury Coupe Frame Off Built Led Sled 468 Dart V8 700R4 Vintage Air Year: 1950 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Burgundy Mileage: 2581 Transmission type: 4 Speed Automatic Engine: 468 V8 Interior color: Tan Vehicle info There's nothing like assuming the helm of a lights-out lead sled. Whether it's the fault of James Dean, Sam Barris or just stellar design, 49-51 Mercurys seem gifted with universal appeal that few classics possess. This first class Mercury Kustom is the recipient of a complete, frame-off restoration that combines excellent paint with epic metalwork, a potent Chevy big block and a clean custom interior. With fully-sorted mechanicals, the car easily navigates the line between awesome weekend warrior and show-stopping crowd pleaser. And if you're the kind of buyer who's searching for a stunning, all-steel masterpiece that features a roster of top notch equipment, no hot rod offers more style for less money! Officially baptized in to the Kustom world a little over thirty years ago, this slick sled was carefully finessed and expertly freshened to the absolute highest standards in the summer of 2011. At that point in its life, the car was a tired, small block resto-mod that had, fortunately, found its way to well-known car enthusiast Ron Meis. Meis began by working the body's contoured panels into buttery planes that'll maintain a solid faade for years to come. Those smooth surfaces make for a super clean profile that's been laboriously block-sanded and covered in a stunning coat of Corvette burgundy. That glossy paint stays vibrant thanks to a tough layer of clearcoat, which was thoroughly dried and carefully buffed to a trophy-winning shine. And today, the car sits as one excellent looking custom with no filler, no questionable seams, no bulges, and nothing else that would be any kind of demerit to its otherwise superior restoration. At the front of this clean coupe, a short grille hangs clear parking lamps between frenched headlights, a wraparound bumper and a nosed hood. Behind that hood, tinted, chrome-trimmed glass rides inside stainless wipers, traditional spotlights and a professionally chopped roof. At the sides of that roof, a shaved profile floats requisite fender skirts between small mirrors and faux side pipes. And behind those skirts, a second wraparound bumper reflects a shaved decklid and pure Mercury tail lights. Like it or not, sometimes it's good to break tradition. And breaking tradition is one thing that makes this Merc so impressive. Lift the car's domed hood and you'll find 468 cubic inches of big block Chevrolet muscle that, thanks to A&A Restoration in Rapid City, South Dakota, creates roughly 600 horsepower! At the top of that monster mill, air flows from a K&N X-Stream-style filter element in to a big Holley 4-barrel that's piped with braided fluid lines and a simple Holley pressure gauge. The resulting air/fuel mixture makes its way from a Weiand aluminum intake to Dart Pro1 heads that are topped with chrome, "CHEVROLET" branded valve covers. When those heads flood the cylinders, a quality MSD distributor sequences fire between an MSD Blaster 2 coil and tube-loomed Taylor plug wires. Resultant gases are jettisoned through ceramic-coated Sanderson block hugger headers. The black block's cooling is provided by a beefy radiator that's fitted with a shrouded Cooling Components puller fan. Charging comes courtesy of a polished alternator that, along with a polished AC compressor, spins on an aesthetically pleasing Zoops pulley system. And overall, the smooth, body-matched engine compartment is exceptionally clean, featuring details such as polished breathers, a polished overflow tank, polished water tubes and a prominent MQQN Equipment temperature gauge. Take a look under this all-steel custom and you'll find a traditional Ford skeleton that's been augmented with a series of excellent upgrades. At the front of that skeleton, a nice mix of Fat Man and Heidts suspension components makes good use of power rack-and-pinion steering. At the back of that skeleton, simple traction bars and proven lowering blocks combine strength with stance. At the center of that chassis, a line locking 700R4 4-speed spins a familiar Ford 9-inch around 3.70 gears and Moser 31-spline axles. At the sides of that awesome driveline, the aforementioned headers roll spent gases through large stainless pipes and throaty Flowmaster mufflers. At the corners of that exhaust system, power disc brakes provide solid, predictable stops. On the outside of those discs, painted and stainless-capped steelies spin 215/75R15 Coker Classic wide whitewalls. Naturally, items like fresh hoses, clean lines and a dual-reservoir master cylinder round out a sound cast of supporting ancillaries. And, in case you like to play with pressure, most of the car's original air ride system is present and fully wired. Like its engine, the car's supple leather interior was fitted during its 2011 freshening. Modern, power seats, which are both soft and supportive, ride on clean tan carpet that's protected by piped and color-keyed floor mats. In front of those seats, a tan dash anchors rebuilt gauges above hardware for modern climate control. At the base of that dash, a custom console centers an MP3-compatible VBA head unit and Vintage Air twist knobs between small courtesy lamps and VBA speakers. Opposite that console, custom side panels hang subtle trim and broad armrests between seamless quarter speakers and billet door hardware. Above those panels, a custom headliner flows through a billet Center High Mount Stop Lamp to an intricately detailed package tray. In front of the driver, an Ididit tilt steering column spins a Lecarra-branded wheel around a stylish billet shifter. And behind the passengers, a fully finished trunk features ample room for luggage. The sale of this exclusive Merc includes restoration receipts and component manuals. This razor-sharp sled is one of the coolest cruisers on the planet! And at only $79,900, it isn't just a fully restored classic that's attainable for a fraction of its build cost; it's a unique hot rod that sets itself apart from a virtual sea of chopped, diced, smothered and covered street rods. This 1950 Chevrolet Bel Air hardtop is going to surprise you. Looking like a nicely restored, albeit a bit conservative, \'50s cruiser, it actually brings a host of upgrades that make it a first-rate cruiser. How about a 327 cubic inch V8, A/C, and an overdrive transmission for starters? Also be sure to take a look at the price, which is shockingly affordable. The cream paint with a beige roof may not get hearts aflutter, but it\'s the right choice on a car that can do so many things as well as this car can. It\'s almost as if the builder was daring you to look closer, to discover all the secrets it has hiding under its skin. The curvaceous Bel Air shape has aged quite well, neatly straddling the fat-fendered \'40s and the sleek 1950s that were fast approaching, and with the glossy two-stage urethane paint on its flanks, it has a high-quality look that\'s mirrored by the workmanship found throughout. The work was done about four years ago and still shows quite well, with fresh chrome, new glass throughout, and neatly frenched 1954 Chevy taillights that are the lone body modification, but most folks will never know the difference. A few other details include some shaved emblems, but the \'50 Chevy was never a flashy car to begin with, so it\'ll take an expert to spot all the changes, the sure sign of good taste in a modified car. You\'ll find a much more substantial makeover inside, where bucket seats and a custom center console give the conservative Chevy a much different outlook on life. The custom power buckets are upholstered in handsome fabric and vinyl that might have come from the original fabric samples book in 1950. A fat steering wheel is actually an OEM piece that looks right at home atop a tilt column, and the beautifully stitched door panels have a sweeping bit of trim that gives it a true 1950s flair. The center console somehow looks like it could have been born there, and houses controls for the Vintage Air A/C, shifter, and AM/FM/CD stereo. Stewart-Warner instruments fit neatly into the 1950 instrument panel, with auxiliary gauges fitted into custom housings right below an accessory clock. The headliner is highlighted by gorgeous chrome ribs, and even the trunk is beautifully finished with custom carpets and side panels. The engine is a rebuilt 327 cubic inch V8 topped by an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and intake manifold. Chevy Orange paint looks right in the old Chevy engine bay, and even with a big HEI distributor, it fits like the factory built it. Power front discs mean that stopping performance is up to modern standards, and custom headers feed a Flowmaster dual exhaust system that sounds nothing at all like the original Stovebolt. The 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission was rebuilt two years ago and feeds a 10-bolt with 2.85 gears inside, so this sucker just loafs along at modern highway speeds. It\'s not detailed for show underneath, but you know this sucker\'s functional and once you get a good look at it, all you\'re going to want to do is drive. The only other external clue that this car is something special are the painted wheels with \"flipper\" hubcaps and new 205/75/15 whitewall radials. There\'s much more than meets the eye with this Bel Air, and if you\'re a fan of subtlety and quality, it represents an affordable way to get large helpings of both. Call today! Less weight means more performance, and this 1950 Austin A40 with the full pro-street treatment takes it to an extreme. It\'s also quite attractive and nicely finished, making it a welcome addition to a field crowded with the usual machines. If you believe good things come in small packages, this is an excellent example of it. Of course this isn\'t the first time someone has stuffed a big American V8 into a diminutive English car, but in contrast to the far more common Anglias and English Fords, this little Austin has a pleasing vintage look that hasn\'t been brutally altered during the transformation. The curving fenders still give it a pleasing old-fashioned look and the rounded bodywork is more pre-war than 1950s, which is all part of its appeal. For a pro-street vehicle, finish quality is extremely good (heck, it\'s good for ANY type of vehicle), with great paint and subtle ghost flames licking from the front wheel wells. Despite the frame-wracking power that has been channeled through it, the doors fit well, the hood lines up right, and it shows much better than average quality everywhere you look. The front bumper was molded into the front clip, while the rear end has a distinctly British look with a very tidy razor-edge roll pan that wraps around the rear, making for a very handsome little car. In true hot rodding fashion, there\'s not a lot of chrome, but the remaining bright pieces like the grille badge and headlight rings are in good shape and add some sparkle. The interior is not nearly as minimalist as its racing roods would suggest. Comfortable cloth buckets are quite supportive, and the six-point roll cage was cleverly designed to strengthen the tub but stays out of the way, making this car very user-friendly. The pro-street treatment definitely helps with passenger space, as the rear seat is gone, replaced by massive wheel tubs, and giving front seat passengers plenty of stretch-out room. The dash has clear VDO instruments and a big Auto Meter monster tach in the center, and with a tilt column and billet wheel, it\'s much more spacious behind the wheel than you\'d expect. It\'s pre-wired for a stereo system, but it\'s for the next owner to decide what it\'ll be, and I\'m guessing he\'ll be having too much fun with the loud pedal to worry about music. The fold-down trunk lid is uniquely British and offers access to the big polished stainless fuel cell stashed in the trunk. Originally built as a full-race piece, the 383 cubic inch Chevy stroker motor under the hood today is a lot more streetable, yet still extremely potent. There\'s nothing radical but the well-sorted combination starts easily, idles well, and thanks to bottomless reserves of torque, acceleration is explosive at any speed. It\'s neatly finished with a smooth firewall, some chrome dress-up components, and a giant radiator up front. Underneath, it\'s a full 2x3 rectangular tube frame chassis with a strut-type front suspension with rack-and-pinion steering and disc brakes, while out back there are ladder bars with coil-over shocks and a narrowed 9-inch rear with acceleration-happy gears inside. A snappy TH350 3-speed automatic is ready for action or just a cruise, and the exhaust note is serious but not abusive. And no pro-street machine is finished without a set of skinny front tires and giant meats out back, all wrapped around traditional Weld Drag-Stars. This gnarly little Austin is more than a handful for just about anything else that\'s street legal, and the look means it\'ll always be appreciated at shows. Call today! But, while those extensively customized rigs are always cool to look at, this 1953 Chevrolet 3100 manages to carry the same level of appeal without any major gimmicks. That's because, as we've stated numerous times, old school pickups are timeless slices of Americana that'll likely never fall out of fashion. The recipient of a concours-style, frame-off restoration, this Chevy exhibits a level of quality that was simply unobtainable on 1950s assembly lines. Pairing a 216 cubic inch 6-cylinder with a 3-speed manual transmission and striking Burgundy paint, it's sure to turn heads. And, if you're in the market for some sweet collector metal that can be driven, shown and fully enjoyed, it's exactly the ride you've been looking for! BODYWORK/TRIM After World War II, GM rolled out its Advance Design pickups nearly a full year ahead of its revised passenger cars. Why? Well, most agree that, because truck production continued throughout the war, the General's body dies were getting worn and needed replaced. It's a simple answer, and the kind of thinking you'd probably expect behind such a wonderfully uncomplicated machine. Naturally, this 3100's appeal begins on the outside where all-steel lines, memorable enough to inspire the Chevy HHR and SSR, are coated in a fantastic layer of Burgundy 2-stage. That paint, detailed with a Charcoal pinstripe, presents well from any angle, remaining a true testament to rock-solid bodywork that was conducted during the truck's no-holds-barred restoration. And everything adds up to one crisp and clean classic that's been finished to 100% show worthy standards! One of the best attributes of Advance Design pickups is their straightforward ornamentation. Not decorated to the hilt like most '40s and '50s cars, these blue-collar runabouts illustrate how solid design can remain fresh almost 70 years after it was introduced. At the front of this Chevy, a show-quality grille rides between a fresh chrome bumper, clean halogen headlights and a correctly trimmed hood. Behind that hood, a stainless-trimmed windshield leads a smoked greenhouse that's framed in bright, stainless wipers and a small driver's mirror. Beneath that mirror, a polished and bowtie-branded fuel filler floats amid stylized door handles and painted running boards. Between those boards, a spectacular Oak bed is detailed with stainless skid strips and bowtie-branded rail plugs. And beneath those plugs, a "CHEVROLET" branded tailgate reflects sleeved chains, polished tail lamps, a second chrome bumper and polished exhaust pipes. ENGINE Peer in to the truck's body-matched engine bay and you'll find a 216 cubic inch Thriftmaster 6-cylinder that was professionally rebuilt by Greeley Automotive Machine of Greeley, Colorado. Introduced for use in large platforms, and regarded as one of the all-time great Chevrolet powerplants, this "LBA" branded mill is a favorite among vintage GM truck buyers because of its simple design, adequate power and excellent durability. At the top of the block, painted Weber carburetors mix wind, supplied by satin-finish air cleaners, with fuel that's piped through braided lines and high quality XRP fittings. Those carbs ride on a clean Fenton intake, which floats above cast Fenton exhaust manifolds. Opposite those manifolds, a fresh distributor, which sequences fire between MSD Heli-Core Solid Suppression wires and a polished, 12-volt alternator, twists on a tough Comp camshaft. A beefy radiator provides cooling with the help of a large pusher fan and polished cap. And items like a Delco-Remy starter, a silver, "Chevrolet" branded valve cover and a polished oil cap ensure the bright blue powerplant is very impressive to look at. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Crawling under this classy bowtie reveals body-matched floors and a powder-coated frame that have never seen the slightest hint of inclement weather. Power meets the pavement through a traditional Muncie 3-speed, which is tied to a 10-bolt, highway-friendly rear end. Correct leaf springs and big drum brakes occupy all four corners of the chassis, mixing rugged road prowess with firm and solid stops. A polished, dual-pipe exhaust system, which is wired to a polished Patrick's muffler, runs the entire length of the truck. Everything rolls on chrome steel wheels, which turn 245/60R15 Goodyear Eagle STs around "CHEVROLET" branded hubcaps. And details like a silver oil pan, stainless fluid lines, a fresh brake booster, a silver flywheel cover and an Optima gel cell battery round out an impressive restoration. INTERIOR One part vintage and one part modern, this pickup's warm and welcoming interior looks straight out of an old school Hot Rod magazine. At the front of the cockpit, a glossy Burgundy dash hangs classy Haneline gauges opposite an old school locking glovebox. In front of that dash, a cushy seat features "CHEVROLET 53" branded lap belts. At the bottom of that seat, clean carpet frames factory foot pedals. Opposite that carpet, a fresh-looking headliner flows from a polished rearview mirror to a simple dome lamp. At the sides of the passengers, body-matched doors feature minimalist upholstery and traditional chrome handles. The Navajo Tan paintwork with India Ivory top represents the 1950s in a very elegant way. This is particularly impressive on this Chevy because it was resprayed this factory original color a few years ago, which means a wise owner resisted going with a hot rod red or black. In fact, this factory-fresh appearance is exactly how to view this two-door wagon. It has all the great aircraft-inspired brightwork on the hood and running down the body. And of course there's no mistaking the stylized chrome bumpers at both ends. All of this Bel Air style, even the grille, was part of the midgrade 210 package, and this one looks great without losing the spirit that makes it a 60-year-old classic. Even those great hubcaps with Chevy bow-ties around the parameter were available on the 210 line. The beautiful two-tone arrangement continues inside. The dual colors seem to wraparound and intertwine elegantly on the seats, dash, doors, and it even continues all the way behind the rear seats. This 210 has the great dual cowl dashboard and chrome ring steering wheel, so while this might be a "Handyman" special, there are plenty of style touches. Plus, all components work as they should, right down to the AM radio. But we know you look at this and think about all the car show potential, so take notice of the split rear hatch that also makes this your perfect tailgate partying friend. The 235 cubic-inch inline-six is smooth and torquey, and it was a mainstay of Chevrolet vehicles for decades. The Blue Flame six motor is painted perfectly to be the centerpiece in this engine bay. It's refreshing to see the original style motor still in one of these iconic Chevy bodies. This particular one has been well looked after, and it moves this wagon quite nicely, thanks to a few thoughtful pieces. First, this engine breathes easier thanks to an upgrade to a Weber carburetor. Plus, the three-on-the-tree manual transmission gives great power control, and the standard 4.11 rear end ratio means it can get up from a standstill with ease. This is an honest and authentic classic two-door wagon. It has the spirit of the Nomad, the ethics of a Handyman, and the appearance of an American icon. This 1951 Chevrolet 3100 has left its workhorse roots behind with all sorts of great features, from a performance 383 motor, to custom suspension. It was not built to haul wood... It was built to burn rubber and turn heads. This pickup just gets cooler the longer you look at it. For example, you'd expect the matte black paint to be lackluster, but this one has a subtle shine that seems as aggressively elegant as a heavyweight boxer in a finely tailored suit. Plus, there's so much custom pinstriping that people will be hanging an inch from your fenders at every car show. This one even keeps its original iconic five-slat chrome grille, but now it looks much more menacing slammed to the ground as part of a custom suspension. The wheels are playing into this industrial chic ruse, too, with the SS rims painted to look like old-style truck steelies, and the whitewall tires are really modern Michelin rubber. But the best custom touch of all is the tailgate. The quote is not just an inspiring reason to buy this Chevy, but it will also likely remind you to enjoy the nice weekend drives to the fullest. The bright red and black interior perfectly mixes original style with modern components. Probably the best example of this is the bench seat. It doesn't look too out of place for a 1950s vehicle, but it has much more padding, and is covered in leather, to give a much more comfortable experience than the standard pickup. This was built with the driver in mind, including a Grant three-spoke steering wheel. Beyond that is a full set of Dolphin gauges, as well as a large SunPro tach mounted off the left side. But even the passengers won't go wanting, thanks to a modern AM/FM/CD stereo, and cold-blowing air conditioning. If you weren't already running to come get this pickup, what's under the hood will certainly get you (and this truck) moving. Filling out nearly every inch of this engine bay is a big 383 cubic-inch stroker motor, built by United Racing Engines. It includes performance components such as Holley 750 CFM carburetor, Edelbrock Air Gap intake, aluminum racing heads, and Crane performance camshaft. There are plenty more go-fast parts we could list, but instead, we'll just cut to the chase and tell you it has a dyno proven 486 horsepower, and 465 lb-ft of torque. Yup, this is a monster, and everyone will know it thanks to the howling of the Flowmaster dual exhaust. This beast is mated to a stout GM 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission. But if you view this strictly as the ultimate hot rod truck, you're missing the full picture. Remember that this 700R4 is an overdrive gearbox, and this one rides on a more modern Chevy S10 chassis. Combine that with power steering, cruise control, and front disc brakes, and this one-off truck is a true comfortable restomod, when you want to rack up some leisure miles. This is the pickup you'd build if you had the time, but instead you can buy in for much less than it would cost to put it together by yourself. We'll even hand you the receipt book so you can prove this build was a labor of love. Don't wait, cool customs like this don't last in our showroom...call today!! 1951 Chevrolet 3100 for Sale 1951 Chevrolet 3100 for Sale Stock # 3170-CHA Charlotte Showroom 5400 West WT Harris Blvd Charlotte, NC 28269 Local/International: (704) 598-2130 Toll-Free: (866) 542-8392 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM EST Sat: 9AM - 5PM EST Email: [email protected] Atlanta Showroom 213 Thornton Rd Lithia Springs, GA 30122 Local/International: (678) 279-1609 Toll-Free: (877) 367-1835 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM EST Sat: 9AM - 5PM EST Email: [email protected] Dallas/Fort Worth Showroom 5400 Sandshell Dr Fort Worth, TX 76137 Local/International: (817) 764-8000 Toll-Free: (855) 877-2707 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM CST Sat: 9AM - 5PM CST Email: [email protected] TERMS OF SALE 1.
